Dumped for eating Maltesers

Malteesser · 03/03/2022 22:39

Been seeing someone for a few weeks. We went to cinema last night and he bought popcorn and I bought a big bag of maltesers. I opened them when we sat down and began eating them. He said “why don’t you wait until the film starts?” So I just laughed and said “too tempting” as a joke. He seemed irritated and said something like “you won’t have any left by time the film starts”. This got my back up a bit and I just carried on as I was. I finished the bag around 10 minutes into the film. I saw him watching me and felt his disapproval Hmm but why?? It didn’t effect him, he had his popcorn. He was really grumpy throughout the film and afterwards was quite off with me. We were meant to be going for something to eat but he said he wasn’t really in the mood and would be heading home.

Before I went to bed I text him asking if I’d done something to upset him and he replied “I don’t think this will work out, it’s nothing personal x” Hmm I replied “ok no worries”.

It’s been bugging me all day as before we sat down in the cinema he was absolutely fine!!! We were laughing and joking etc, no bad feeling at all and he literally changed as soon as we sat down.

Have I been dumped for bad Malteser etiquette?!?

No not dumped. You've had a lucky escape!! Imagine how controlling he would be about other things! You should be jumping for joy for escaping that!

OwlinaTree · 03/03/2022 22:41

Well if you were you are best off out of it!

XenoBitch · 03/03/2022 22:42

If he dumped you over that, he was probably doing you a huge favour.

If I buy popcorn at the cinema, at least half is gone before the film starts.

LubaLuca · 03/03/2022 22:42

Are you a noisy eater?

atiredtoddlermama · 03/03/2022 22:42

By the sounds of it you've had a lucky escape! Who doesn't eat at least half the snacks before the film starts!?

WhatTheWhoTheWhatThe · 03/03/2022 22:42

Consider it a lucky escape! He was affronted that you effectively said no to him. I guess he likes his women more biddable!

oviraptor21 · 03/03/2022 22:42

I think he wanted to eat his popcorn and then eat your Maltesers.

squishee · 03/03/2022 22:42

Oh wow. His loss!

TracyMosby · 03/03/2022 22:43

He has serious control issues. His way or no way.

Russell19 · 03/03/2022 22:43

Is he a health freak? Does he think you ate too many Maltesers? If so, you've got away with it lightly him showing his true colours so soon.

AtrociousCircumstance · 03/03/2022 22:43

Better you finish them early so you’re not crunching all the way through the film annoying everyone else!

He’s a controlling arse. Narrow escape. If you’d eeked out the Maltesers you might have ended up marrying a total tool.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 03/03/2022 22:43

Perhaps he thought you both bought things to share?

He was a divvy. Don't worry.

toastfiend · 03/03/2022 22:43

All hail the Maltesers for saving you from a twat!

MiddleClassProblem · 03/03/2022 22:44

But if you were a noisy eater, I’d rather you did do it before the film!

You did nothing wrong. If someone can find that too much then they are not for you.

I’m with you though. I don’t want to be snacking past the first half an hour.

BabyTurtIe · 03/03/2022 22:44

Sounds like it was the last straw, doubt it was over this sorry but sounds like he was already planning on dumping you and every little thing you do is irritating to him.

moonbedazzled · 03/03/2022 22:44

If you were, you've had a lucky escape!
But maybe he was already in two minds and his worry that you might start digging into his popcorn swung it.
By the way, what film did you see and was it any good? I want to start my cinema routine again.

LuaDipa · 03/03/2022 22:44

You can’t rationalise twatish behaviour. Thank your lucky stars that he showed his true colours this early and move on.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 03/03/2022 22:45

@toastfiend

All hail the Maltesers for saving you from a twat!
Yet another reason to love them (if I needed one)!
LightSpeeds · 03/03/2022 22:45

Fuck me! I get a BIG BAG of Minstrels for the film and eat the WHOLE lot before the film starts. I wouldn't stand a chance! 😧

RAOK · 03/03/2022 22:45

He sounds awful! I thought everyone tucked into the snacks as soon as they sat down.

frostedfruit · 03/03/2022 22:46

I think he was annoyed that you didn't stop eating when he asked you to. It's the first little sign that he expects you to do things the way he wants or he'll show his disapproval. There'll be more, and worse, where that came from. Dont hang around!

Avacadoandtoast · 03/03/2022 22:47

I’d have bought maltesers and popcorn (salted) and mixed them into one and probably eaten the whole lot before the film started and then be irritated that he still had some left and hadn’t offered me any yet…. He sounds boring, be happy you got away!

AlisonDonut · 03/03/2022 22:47

Did you crunch them, or suck the chocolate off first, or bite in half and let the inside fizzle on your tongue before then enjoying the chocolate dissolve?
Details and diagram please!

LadyCatStark · 03/03/2022 22:47

I suspect he was probably intending to eat some of your Malteasers during the film.

HollowTalk · 03/03/2022 22:47

But did he think you were going to each share? I would assume that you were going to start asking for his popcorn after you'd finished eating. Now that would piss me off!
