AIBU to stream UKranian music in support?

The situation is terrible , and we all feel relatively powerless. This morning I asked Alexa to play Ukranian music. As well as broadening my horizons and finding some hauntingly beautiful music in my randomised play list, I figured that if enough of us do it, even though streaming services pay artists poorly, we may be able to somehow support the people of Ukraine and their economy. Am I being naive? We must hope that sanity prevails and Putin is stopped in his tracks, but AIBU to hope this shows some sort of solidarity?

I'm sure Putin will be quaking in his boots when he hears about what you have been listening to.

I’m really not sure how you think this is actually helping anyone.

Yes, playing Ukrainian music through alexa will 100% help them, might even convince Putin to withdraw his troops if enough of us play Ukrainian music.....🤔 I can imagine all.the Ukrainian people thst have fled their country or taking refugee in metro stations breathing a sigh of relief that felicmargo is streaming Ukrainian folk songs....

Lockheart · 25/02/2022 12:03

Listen to whatever music you want, why do you think that would be unreasonable?

Unless you don't actually think you're being unreasonable to listen to music and you just want to virtue signal...

Margo is just being kind hearted! There's so little any of us can do.......pray maybe.....

Shiningpath · 25/02/2022 12:04

It’s a very sweet thought and you’ve had some harsh responses but no, it’s going to make little to no practical difference in the circumstances.

newbiename · 25/02/2022 12:05

Fernsinthegarden · 25/02/2022 12:36

Well, I suppose it's about as equally fucking 'helpful' as "thoughts and prayers"

grapehyacinthisactuallyblue · 25/02/2022 12:41

Why not. It may not help, but thought does count, imo.
Way better than thinking we have nothing to do with it.

OnlyClothes · 25/02/2022 12:42

Well I’m here listening to Ukrainian music on Spotify, so far so good!

Yeah. Ukraine is an actual war zone right now. But no worries; you fucking around on Spotify is gonna send Putin packing.
