AIBU to stream UKranian music in support?

The situation is terrible , and we all feel relatively powerless. This morning I asked Alexa to play Ukranian music. As well as broadening my horizons and finding some hauntingly beautiful music in my randomised play list, I figured that if enough of us do it, even though streaming services pay artists poorly, we may be able to somehow support the people of Ukraine and their economy. Am I being naive? We must hope that sanity prevails and Putin is stopped in his tracks, but AIBU to hope this shows some sort of solidarity?

Listen to whatever you like OP if it makes you feel better but it really makes absolutely no difference to the people of Ukraine. They will have no idea, whilst they're fleeing their home or trying to avoid being murdered by Russian troops that you've got their backs.

This isn't what she said though? Her post wasn't about stopping a war, it was about helping Ukranians financially even if it is on a very small scale.

Why did you think her post was about Putin seeing Ukrainian music trending and calling off the troops?

I actually think although it will do nothing to stop the conflict, it’s actually a nice idea and I will copy!

If you want to support then send money to a charity helping people there; don’t think streaming music does anything helpful

If you want to listen to some Ukrainian music fair enough, but let’s not pretend this will have any impact on the situation whatsoever.

If you want to help the Ukrainian people find out which charities will be providing them with humanitarian support and donate some money.

It’s not a thread. In the now full Invasion thread someone popped up, claimed to have Ukrainian friends, then asked for a recommendation for an animal rescue centre there to donate to.

I got told off by a couple of people for objecting because animals are innocent and they matter too, and we don’t have to choose…

But I maintain that it was utterly tone death to virtue signal about the fluffy aniwanimals.

The OP did not say anywhere that streaming Ukrainian music will stop the war or change the world!

Extra royalties will be received by the artists and songwriters and this may compensate very slightly for loss of income.

Better than sitting behind a keyboard and slating a person who wants to help.

Can anyone think if a good playlist for other countries to listen to if we get bombed? Would it have to be hauntingly sad or do you think we should crowbar some jazzy numbers in?

But I’m sprawled on sofa waiting for my microwave to ping with meal

Surely the OK is taking the piss? If not, it's an idiotic suggestion. If you want to be proactive and not a ridiculous virtue signaller, donate a few quid to the Red Cross.
