… if you are married 20+ years do you still do valentines?

Just curious if it is something that people still do having been together a long time? On one level I understand it’s a marketing ploy. However, I do also take it as a reminder for me to be thankful for my kind and wonderful partner. Maybe that’s just me, because aware I’m not always the most thoughtful a lot of the time …

We’re not bothering this year.

LawnFever · 11/02/2022 22:42

We’ve never done valentines ever, marketing nonsense

SisterRuth · 11/02/2022 22:42

Nope. Never.

cheekychaplin · 11/02/2022 22:44

We never have

Beansprout30 · 11/02/2022 22:45

We don’t bother only ever did when we first got together

EcoCustard · 11/02/2022 22:45

Never done anything for Valentines in 21 years.

Seafog · 11/02/2022 22:45

Yup, married 23 years, still do Valentine s dinner out, flowers, and such.
Mind you, he often makes a fuss of me for no reason, and is a pretty thoughtful guy all around.

MaudieandMe · 11/02/2022 22:46

Yes, together over 20 years and always do a card plus a small present.

SpottyStripyDuvet · 11/02/2022 22:47

Together nearly 23 years and we just do a card and small gift. Always used to do a fancy dinner pre dc but can't be arsed any more.

PlanetNormal · 11/02/2022 22:48

Together 20+ years, not married. We don’t do Valentine’s Day, or any other corporate marketing bullshit-fest.

Savingpeoplehuntingthings · 11/02/2022 22:48

Not quite 20 but together 18 years.
We do valentine's day yes. Just a card and a reminder to be grateful for each other.
Love the bones off him, tell him daily but an excuse for steak and chocolate is not to be wasted.

Pinkstegosaurus · 11/02/2022 22:49

We have previously, not anything hugely overblown but just a nice excuse for a steak mainly 😂
This year will be a passing acknowledgment just to small kids and travel away from each other…we’ll have the steak on a different night instead 😊 Married 6 years this summer, together for 4 years before that.

foreverandalways · 11/02/2022 22:50

It's also my wedding anniversary and the day we met so yes absolutely

CatherinedeBourgh · 11/02/2022 22:51

No, never did it even before we were married. I've always found it rather crass and commercial.

BeBraveAndBeKind · 11/02/2022 22:52

No. We've been together 26 years and married for 22 years. I don't need a card and flowers on a particular day of the year to know he loves and appreciates me. He shows me everyday.

Lollypop701 · 11/02/2022 22:52

Ish, did when kids were younger and do take time to remind us we are lucky. But not madness

Tellthemagain · 11/02/2022 22:52

yes, card and dinner out

My parents have been married 40 years and no longer do Valentines as over the years it meant less, as they appreciate each other much more other times, in other ways. DF always makes sure DM has a very nicely filled vase Smile

Tr1skel1on · 11/02/2022 22:53

I just typed a huge message that was lost. I went to the pub with my husband and got his pint. No fancy stuff, no flowers etc. He has been my rock for a quarter of a century. He knows that, I know that. No need for valentine's nonsense

jimmyreckon · 11/02/2022 22:53

Nope and haven't for 25 years

MajorCarolDanvers · 11/02/2022 22:53

17 years and never done Valentines.

We are just not into the Hallnark holidays.

DancingintheSpoonlight · 11/02/2022 22:53

...last bit sounded like an innuendo...didn't mean it too Blush

lisaandalan · 11/02/2022 22:54

Yes 34 years. X

ToffeeNotCoffee · 11/02/2022 22:54

Yep.

I thought that once we were engaged we wouldn't bother with Valentine cards. So, I didn't.

What I didn't know was he had got me a valentine card. We were on holiday at the time in the far East. He gave me a card that he had purchased at home.

I managed to buy him a card from a market stall so that I could give him a card.

I've never let myself be caught out like that again !

We will go out for a meal. In fact my husband has booked a table at a restaurant and a taxi to take us there an back.

I have purchased champagne as a gift for him. He will probably buy me flowers.

It's just lovely.
