DH gave his female coworker a lift home past midnight

So my husband went to a works drink after work on Friday, around midnight he messaged me asking if he should get us a McDonald's, replied back saying in bed but yeah why not.
A few mins later I had no response back from him whether he was going to get McDonald's or not so I called him and I could tell he was in the car when he answered. I mentioned get the takeaway and he said do I want fries and when I was about to respond I hear a female voice. He was giving one of his coworkers a lift home past midnight!
This I'm not going to lie really got my back up.
Am I reading too much into this???

Eh?

If dh was driving home at midnight and he knew that one of his colleagues was walking home alone, I'd be cross if he didnt offer them a lift.

Glowinglights · 05/02/2022 22:55

If it’s roughly in the direction of travel and no backstory, I can’t see the problem really. Just helping a colleague get home safe - my DH would do the same and has done so in the past.
Equally, I’ve had lifts back home from people (either sex) without considering it would be seen as odd.

TidyDancer · 05/02/2022 22:55

I thought this was going to be a post saying how pleased you were that he'd done this.

I can't understand why you'd have a problem with this. Would you genuinely rather a woman was trying to get home alone at night?

NiceTwin · 05/02/2022 22:55

What a nice thing to do.
I would be pissed off if my dh hadn't given her a lift home.

Pegasussnail · 05/02/2022 22:56

Only you know your own dh but I would think he was being kind. We've heard of too many of tragedies women out at night.

The fact he thought of you and was bringing you back a McDonald's and happily talked to the colleague makes me think it's innocent.

czycoup · 05/02/2022 22:56

Is he allowed to give lifts before midnight?

I'm waiting for the drip feed where he's been texting this colleague 24/7 or there's a history of infidelity with the colleague (or any colleague)

PugInTheHouse · 05/02/2022 22:57

I would be pissed off if DH didn't offer a lift.

Imissmoominmama · 05/02/2022 22:57

People only get up to no good after midnight. Nobody shags in their car any earlier- everyone knows that.

Stompythedinosaur · 05/02/2022 22:57

I can't see anything going wrong with this.

Comefromaway · 05/02/2022 22:57

I’d think it was very kind of him.

Shakespearesist3r · 05/02/2022 22:58

Massively unreasonable.
If he had something to hide he wouldn't have picked up his phone to you I imagine.
Get a grip.
I hope you never need to walk home after midnight after work drinks.

Honeyroar · 05/02/2022 22:58

So what?
He wasn’t exactly hiding it from you if he rang you! He was doing a good thing - making sure a colleague was safe late at night.

Cofifeefee · 05/02/2022 22:58

Unless there is a major major backstory, you are being the most ridiculous there ever was in AIBU.

WorriedGiraffe · 05/02/2022 22:58

YABU, especially as he was picking up food for both of you on the way home, not exactly up to no good was he. Is he allowed to take females home at 11pm? Or males only after midnight? Get a grip OP

Askawayyyy · 05/02/2022 22:58

Was the McDonald’s cold or warm?

grapewine · 05/02/2022 22:58

Unless there is a massive backstory, you are overreacting. He did a nice thing.

LondonQueen · 05/02/2022 22:59

Would it matter if he gave a male colleague a lift home? I doubt it.

Jennifer2r · 05/02/2022 23:01

I agree with OP, it's the fact that it's past midnight that makes it really bad, I'd let a male colleague give me a lift home at 11.30pm but no later Confused

Chichimcgee · 05/02/2022 23:01

Was the McDonald’s cold or warm?

McDonald’s is cold 3.2 seconds after you pick the bag up.

Xmassprout · 05/02/2022 23:01

Would it be ok if he dropped her off at 11:30 instead?

If he's answering your phone call to discuss picking you up food, I highly doubt they was up to no good

DiddyHeck · 05/02/2022 23:02

You've completely forgotten to say why it got your back up?

Hexagonmum · 05/02/2022 23:02

I figured I was being unreasonable and he does have a heart of gold. Thanks ladies for getting my head on right...so glad I didn't overreact last night and just kept it normal while I figured out my feelings about it.

Did he order the McBlowie? No? Calm yourself down then 😂

Maybe her coach had turned back into a pumpkin and she had no way of getting home.

I'd think he was doing a good thing by making sure a (possibly tipsy) woman got home safely after a do.
