I've been seeing lots of jacket potato photos for some reason in my FB feed. And LOADS of people are having 2 potatoes??? There are normal size jacket potatoes.

Have I been missing a trick?

Also, we do 2 per person and usually have a couple left over to make wedges the next day.

We have them with beans, green salad, grated carrots with toasted seeds and lemon juice, and either cheese or engevita (half of us are vegan, half veggie). Oh and usually either home made houmous or guac alongside. Yum.

It's a shit tea though, isn't it? It's a tea for when dh hasn't been arsed to plan properly. I'd prefer a fish finger butty to a jacket spud.

BuanoKubiamVej · 03/02/2022 22:06

The 4pack ones are definitely smaller these days on average. There's usually one "normal" sized one and 3 tiddly ones in each 4 pack.

If we are having jackets as the main event in an evening meal then I will have 250g ish and DH 350g - usually achieved by me having the one largest potato in the pack and DH having the 2 smallest.

If it's for lunch or if it's an accomplishment to a more substantial dish rather than being the main bit of the meal, then 150g ish for me and 200g for DH can be enough, so just one smallish one each.

I have one. With beans and cheese or tuna mayo, and then salad on the side

I'll be honest, and it may seem greedy, but I prefer 2-3 jacket potatoes, if they are large then two.

I promise there's a potato there SmileGrin
That's with garlic mushrooms and cheese

Why is it shit? Confused

I love a jacket potato for dinner

@Muddlewitch

Blimey *@PatriciaHolm* that will keep you going, I'm very jealous!

Completely off topic but what is the pad of paper resting on at the top? Looks like lava, is that a new spud cooking method?!

@Muddlewitch ha! It's my mouse mat!

@YeOldePotato

My local veg box! Grown in Cornish soil.

I’m growing my own purple fleshed potatoes this year for a change

That is a thing of gods. I would cut it in half lengthways and only bake half of it at a time, salted and oiled. Then I would eat it with roasted veg, hummus, feta and spinach. My god, I want that now.

I love a jacket spud. But I tend to go for sweet potatoes. I have a big salad and lots of filling, so I'd rarely go for one whole one, let alone two. Only if it were a small one would I eat it all. Too many carbs for me, I prefer my calories as filling. Cheese and butter and all manner of other yummy stuff

Darbs76 · 04/02/2022 06:59

Always 1 for me

FindingMeno · 04/02/2022 07:00

Average sized baking potato just one.
They are so filling I don't know how anyone could eat two!

InFiveMins · 04/02/2022 07:09

I always have two. They are so small that if I had one I'd still be hungry!

PaulaTrilloe · 04/02/2022 07:13

I think with 1 potato you are missing a trick.

They are defo getting smaller!

GettingThemFromHereToThere · 04/02/2022 07:15

1 potato with beans and cheese, then fill the plate with salad

Didn't take long
CallMeNutribullet · 04/02/2022 07:42

Surely it's fine for people to eat as many jacket potatoes as they fancy?

Unless you're Brian Harvey.

FrecklesMalone · 04/02/2022 07:45

Definitely 1. I'm fat and greedy and still only eat one.

Shitandhills · 04/02/2022 12:38

@BoredZelda but you could put a microwaved from scratch one in the oven too, no? Does it save any time to microwave a frozen one vs a raw one?

burnoutbabe · 04/02/2022 12:47
@akire you had a frozen baked potato?! That sounds utterly ridiculous! Surely it takes as long to defrost in the micro as it would to cook from scratch and it wouldn't have that weird reheated potato taste 🤮
ah i love frozen jacket spuds (mcains?) as you get the nice crispy jacket, micriwaved in 5 mins, without having to do it in the oven for an hour.

Akire · 04/02/2022 12:50

Yes it’s 4min for me instead of what 50min in oven. What I spend on food I make back
In energy costs. Now granted if I was putting frozen jacket in oven for 50 min that’s just silly Grin

burnoutbabe · 04/02/2022 12:50

I will admit to posting many food pics on FB over the years.

But i can't recall one of a jacket spud. Unless we were out and it was HUGE.

But one at home, with baked beans on? nope that doesn't really need to be shared.

Cookiecrisps · 04/02/2022 12:54

If you’re Brian Harvey then 3 jacket potatoes is the norm. Grin

JuicySatsuma85 · 04/02/2022 13:19

I think the biggest question is why are you seeing a load of photos of jacket potatoes?

Also, let people eat what they want. Are you “missing a trick” by only eating 1 potato? What kind of question is that?

SpaghettiArmsMurderer · 04/02/2022 13:45

Inspired by this thread I had a jacket potato and beans for lunch Grin
I always just cook them in the microwave, the loss of the crispy skin is an acceptable exchange for them only taking 8 or so minutes imo.
