I've been seeing lots of jacket potato photos for some reason in my FB feed. And LOADS of people are having 2 potatoes??? There are normal size jacket potatoes.

Have I been missing a trick?

The frozen baked potatoes are cooked from frozen, around 5 mins in microwave

Bitbloweyoutthere · 03/02/2022 20:16

But better still, 1 sweet potato, filled with feta and chilli flakes.

Not really Grin I get potatoes here that are massive! Like 3 fists worth for one spud iyswim. I use my hands as a guide for portion control.

New potatoes a portion is what I can hold without dropping.

For roasts, chips and jackets it’s the size of my fist. I’ll cut a big spud down to get the right size or cook all of it in the case of a jacket spud and eat the rest the next day.

Now I think I might be weird Confused
A 3 fister sounds massive!

EveningOverRooftops · 03/02/2022 20:19

@YeOldePotato had one longer than my head once. Almost, almost treated it as some sacred gift from the gods. we salted the bastard and threw its foil wrapped body into the flames and waited so. Damn. Long. Then we got the chilli out. Grin

T00Ts · 03/02/2022 20:22

What’s happening? Why is your feed full of jacket potatoes?

Is it national jacket potato day?

Where are you finding these humongous beasts?

Camomila · 03/02/2022 20:23

Depends how big the potato is surely.
I usually have half a big potato or one average size one. I give the smallest jacket potatoes to the DC as they are only 2 and 5.

ouch321 · 03/02/2022 20:23

I have a packet of specifically labelled jacket potatoes in the fridge.
I weighed all four of them and average weight was 210g.
Potatoes are 77 cals per 100g as per Google. So that's c.161 cals per jacket potato.
So how can people seriously say that people eating 2 are filthy pigs. Let's assume some cheese or beans at 200 cals.
Since when was 520 cals too much for a main meal.
This is such a chicken thread.

PatriciaHolm · 03/02/2022 20:23

I currently have this sitting in my kitchen - it's on a page of A4 for scale. I have no idea what to do with it as it's only me that will eat it!

PlanetNormal · 03/02/2022 20:24

I often do two big spuds for myself, then I scoop out the potato from the second one so I can eat both skins - it’s by far the best bit. 😋

You bake it, fill with butter and cheese of your choosing and eat it, obviously.

Bellie710 · 03/02/2022 20:27
@Bellie710 and you too! Frozen baked potatoes! I really didn't realise this was a thing!
I think you will find if you have a baked potato in a cafe when you are out it would be a frozen one :)

I want a baked potato now. Egg mayonnaise. Spring onion. Yum.
Finally I have found my jacket potato twin!

Most people think I’m weird.“

I love baked potatoes. I love egg mayonnaise. Why has this never occurred to me?

Thank you 💐

DukeofEarlGrey · 03/02/2022 20:28

I haven't been on facebook for years but the bigger question for me seems to be why your facebook feed is full of pictures of jacket potatoes Confused

Fearnyleaves · 03/02/2022 20:28

1 big one is normal, 2 if they're very small. But I could realistically scoff 3 large ones because they are my favorite and I'm a fatty!

maddiemookins16mum · 03/02/2022 20:29

All depends, served with a chicken kiev and salad then a medium jacket is fine. By itself with tuna/mayo and salad, I’d have two mediums or one large. The way I look at is, how many chips would I get out of this single potato and go from there.

StCharlotte · 03/02/2022 20:31

@Montague22

One potato on a plate leaves too many gaps. I have two.
As good a reason as any. I approve.
tillytoodles1 · 03/02/2022 20:33

I must be odd,I dont like jacket, mashed or boiled potatoes. I like them roasted and chipped, or dauphinoise, but i dont eat a lot of spuds.

thebakeoffwasntasgoodthisyear · 03/02/2022 20:33

I had this on a road trip in USA - even I couldn’t finish it! DH often serves up 2 jacket potatoes each and they always get wasted, I hate it.

IncompleteSenten · 03/02/2022 20:37

My husband makes bloody gorgeous jacket potatoes.
He makes about 4 cuts widthways, going about halfway through the potato each cut then he uses a pastry brush and coats them in oil.

Fayekrista · 03/02/2022 20:38

I always have 1 personally.
Tip.... don't buy the 4 pack, by the loose potatoes, you always get huge ones there or if you buy the big bag of 'wonky potatoes' you'll get a good mix (& much cheaper!) Use the small ones for mash, roasties etc

Aloha7373 · 03/02/2022 20:40

I’ve literally just eaten 3.5 topped with tons of butter mayo and veg hahaha. Then ice cream… But I think it all comes down to your overall daily intake. I don’t eat breakfast, just have one massive lunch and one massive dinner, no snacks.

Waitrose sell two baking potatoes for £1 or four large potatoes for 60p. Cheeky bastards.
AnAverageMum · 03/02/2022 20:42

@danadas

*I'd have two of the frozen ones because they dont seem that big. Disclaimer I am greedy.

When I get one for lunch at work though one seems more than enough as they are massive plus it comes with salad which I can never be arsed with when I do my own.*

Grin I have found my people on mumsnet at last!

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 03/02/2022 20:42

I just don’t get how egg mayonnaise would work on a jacket. It just sounds like a sicky clash. Just as it would be with mashed potato. I love many things on a jacket - I had butter, grated cheese and tuna tonight. It was tiny. But also had lots of salad. As desperate to knock off a few —stone— pounds… Also love one with prawns, cheese and coleslaw, coronation chicken, lasagne, cannelloni, tinned ravioli… I could go on. But egg mayo??? How??
