I've been seeing lots of jacket potato photos for some reason in my FB feed. And LOADS of people are having 2 potatoes??? There are normal size jacket potatoes.

Have I been missing a trick?

I’m just here for the inevitable poster that claims to share one potato between her family of 6 because they’re ‘packed with sugar’.

Finallygotme · 03/02/2022 20:01

There was a thread recently about measley sized spuds. I've started having two as the ones in supermarkets are tiny.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 03/02/2022 20:01

I don’t really eat them but I’d say one because whenever I see people out eating them in a cafe, pub, garden centre etc I’ve only ever seen one.
But then again my mum always used to serve half a jacket potato as a side with a casserole.

Zazdar · 03/02/2022 20:03

Doesn’t it depend a lot on how big the potatoes are?

Sh05 · 03/02/2022 20:04

I suppose one potato might look a little lost on a plate if they want a perfect picture.
I'm sure people who live for their social media likes don't give much thought to what a normal portion might be.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 03/02/2022 20:04

I'll have one, DH and the always monstrously hungry teenage DSs will eat two each and then want a sandwich in half an hour

tkwal · 03/02/2022 20:05

One baked potato 🥔 in most publications/diet literature =200g

PinkSyCo · 03/02/2022 20:05

It depends on the size of them, but the ones that come on the packs of four I have two of and could probably quite easily polish off a third too.

Akire · 03/02/2022 20:08

2 for main meal 1 as side. Just had a frozen one and only 198 calories so that and some beans isn’t going keep you going as main meal of the day

Laufeythejust · 03/02/2022 20:08

I have one but it needs to be with something to make it tea, like steak or chicken.

That is unless I’ve done them properly in the oven covered in oil and salt. I only do them like this for BBQs and in this case the correct portion size is a billion. Eaten like apples.

Why is no one questioning this?!!

JeffThePilot · 03/02/2022 20:09

@emsmar

I want a baked potato now. Egg mayonnaise. Spring onion. Yum.
Finally I have found my jacket potato twin!

Most people think I’m weird.

I just assumed it was like a weird tik tok challange
EveningOverRooftops · 03/02/2022 20:10

One the side of my fist is enough with beans.

Lampshading · 03/02/2022 20:10

@ThinWomansBrain

two small ones would be great because you'd get s better crispy skin:potato ratio
Absolutely agree, skin is the best bit.

How big is your fist though? The size of a potato I guess.
MrsSkylerWhite · 03/02/2022 20:11

One baking potato and one chicken quite obviously feeds a nuclear family for at least a week.

Shitandhills · 03/02/2022 20:11

@akire you had a frozen baked potato?! That sounds utterly ridiculous! Surely it takes as long to defrost in the micro as it would to cook from scratch and it wouldn't have that weird reheated potato taste 🤮

Haha true Grin
giveyou2reasons · 03/02/2022 20:11

If the potato's a side, it doesn't have to be huge, but if the potato is the main attraction, I might want two. One fist-sized potato without meat or some protein wouldn't fill me up.

sadpapercourtesan · 03/02/2022 20:12

I have one, then if I'm still hungry I'll have another one.

We cook spares, everyone has what they want, and if there are leftovers DH will eat them for breakfast/lunch the next day.

Fillings in this house tend to be tuna mayo, egg mayo, cheese, beans - occasionally chilli or bolognaise if there's some that needs using up.

Shitandhills · 03/02/2022 20:13

@Bellie710 and you too! Frozen baked potatoes! I really didn't realise this was a thing!

MintyGreenDream · 03/02/2022 20:13

My preference is a massive one with tuna mayo and loads of butter

Sceptre86 · 03/02/2022 20:13

If we get the loose spuds I will have one, if dh gets the 4 pack of baked potatoes I will have two.

EveningOverRooftops · 03/02/2022 20:15

@YeOldePotato

Not really Grin I get potatoes here that are massive! Like 3 fists worth for one spud iyswim. I use my hands as a guide for portion control.

New potatoes a portion is what I can hold without dropping.

For roasts, chips and jackets it’s the size of my fist. I’ll cut a big spud down to get the right size or cook all of it in the case of a jacket spud and eat the rest the next day.

Now I think I might be weird Confused
