To think that 1 jacket potato is the normal amount to have??

I've been seeing lots of jacket potato photos for some reason in my FB feed. And LOADS of people are having 2 potatoes??? There are normal size jacket potatoes.

Have I been missing a trick?

The baking potatoes in the packs are tiny and I'd have 2. Even DD8 asks for more. We have a lot of toppings too. A giant loose potato, one is enough. Due to the size variation (and different appetites) there is no right or wrong answer

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 03/02/2022 20:44

Could it be my next thing that I totally dismiss and then I try it and never stop evangelising. Like Line of Duty!!

Not really Grin I get potatoes here that are massive! Like 3 fists worth for one spud iyswim. I use my hands as a guide for portion control.

New potatoes a portion is what I can hold without dropping.

For roasts, chips and jackets it’s the size of my fist. I’ll cut a big spud down to get the right size or cook all of it in the case of a jacket spud and eat the rest the next day.

Now I think I might be weird Confused[/quote]
Yes, yes you are. Potatoes are the food of the gods!

DuesToTheDirt · 03/02/2022 20:47

Is it really a thing, to have lots of jacket potato photos on your fb feed?

Anyway, one each here but I do tend to buy big ones, and we have them with say sausages and veg. If you buy them in prepacks they're generally a lot smaller.

Blinkingheckythump · 03/02/2022 20:48

Why are you being a potato nazi!? Let them eat potatoes Grin

Why is no one questioning this?!!

This is what making Britain great again means. It's all we will be able to afford to eat or be able to buy soon 😆
3Sheetstothewind · 03/02/2022 20:51

Whats normal size? 🤔🙄

caringcarer · 03/02/2022 20:54

I cook 2 medium and 1 small and share with either DH or DS. I have not seen the large ones in shops for ages though.

Yerroblemom1923 · 03/02/2022 20:54

It depends on the size. I buy my spuds loose so pick out big ones for jackets. The ready packed ones are small and I think you can get ready made ones that you just heat up in the micro wavay - they're small too! A decent sized jacket with butter, cheese and beans is more than enough.
I think it's fine for an evening meal - cheap and filling.

Flyinggeese1234 · 03/02/2022 20:55

Why are pics of potatoes on Facebook?!

Mulhollandmagoo · 03/02/2022 20:55

I prefer the filling, so I'd rather have one spud and extra topping, but a few people I know have two

00100001 · 03/02/2022 20:57

@HarlanPepper

On a related note, I don't think a jacket potato, or even two, is a proper dinner. Lunch, perhaps, but not dinner.
Why not?

If you had (say) jacket potato, tuna mayo and a salad. What's missing from the dinner?

People just putting up pictures of their dinner in pages/groups etc... Apparently it's jacket potato season!

Oh gosh I had one today as I was craaaving it for ages. Beans and cheese. Yum! Definitely just one though. And definitely didn't post on Facebook Grin

Mickarooni · 03/02/2022 21:00

Egg Mayo on jacket potatoes is one of my favourites, also cold salmon mashed with Mayo on a jacket potato. Mmmmmm.

liveforsummer · 03/02/2022 21:00

That's a lunch. For an evening meal you need ALL the toppings 😆

tearinghairout · 03/02/2022 21:02

One medium.one with eg. beans and broccoli for me, but DH would have two.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 03/02/2022 21:02

1 for lunch or 2 at teatime. Smothered in beans and cheese.
We don't have huge ones though.

LOL. Cheese and beans and coleslaw too Grin

A jacket potato is a lunch. For dinner it's a carb side dish.

@00100001I'd expect chilli or stew; for meat eaters probably a cutlet, steak or Kiev type thing. A spud isn't a full meal.

What the fuck beans and. .....brocoli?? Must be auto correct Brie, Bacon, black pudding? not beans and trees of doom.
HarryDresdensLeatherDuster · 03/02/2022 21:11

Have to say I do not get the obsession with jacket potatoes and nearly fell off the sofa at several points in this thread - main meal?? Who eats a potato as their main meal?

The reason you all need to eat two is because you are not eating enough protein or proper leafy veg to fill you up.

BigValue · 03/02/2022 21:12

I share one with the children. No toppings, just butter and salt.

Muddlewitch · 03/02/2022 21:13

Blimey @PatriciaHolm that will keep you going, I'm very jealous!

Completely off topic but what is the pad of paper resting on at the top? Looks like lava, is that a new spud cooking method?!

Userno263647284 · 03/02/2022 21:16

Often my eyes are bigger than my belly and I cook two for myself but often don't manage to eat it all... depends what I have with. It depends on the size!
