OK hope I can explain this without outing myself.

I work part time and have my lunch at 11.30, the full timers all go for lunch at 1.30. Yesterday an urgent project came up that had to be finished by 3pm.
I had already had my lunch as it hadn't come through by then. Some of the full timers decided to take their lunches after 3pm to complete the project.
One of my colleagues kept complaining about how hungry she was I replied - Im feeling hungry now too, I can't moan though Ive had lunch and I'm finishing soon.
She reported me to my manager for rubbing it in the full timers faces that I was finishing and had my lunch 🤣

Your colleague is pathetic and immature.
I'm surprised your boss even mentioned it to you. Presumably they didn't take it seriously.

Grrrrdarling · 30/01/2022 19:58

I’d literally start to make a big point of announcing I was off to lunch before everyone else from now on & see how often the petty, childish, h’angry person reports that being rubbed in their face because that would actually be you rubbing it in their face.
What an absolute tool they are.
Sorry you have a work colleague like that but there is always one lurking somewhere.
If they complain again I’d take it personally. As this is the 1st instance I’d take it as them being h’angry.
I mean like you said the work hadn’t even come in when you had lunch so not your fault they couldn’t have lunch at 1.30.

iklboo · 30/01/2022 20:01

Yanbu about her reporting you but your comment was open to being taken as smugness.Perhaps think in future before you comment .

Fuck's sake. Do we really have to deeply ponder before we open our mouths these days just in case someone gets offended / het up / upset about every single innocuous comment? We might as well give up social interaction altogether.

EthelMcUnready · 30/01/2022 21:01

But colleagues say annoying things all the time! If everyone reported everything that annoyed/upset them, nothing would ever get done!

Hawkins001 · 30/01/2022 22:16

Holy smokes

DixonD · 30/01/2022 22:26

@RoomOfRequirement

I wouldn't have reported you but I see where she was coming from.
WTF?
DixonD · 30/01/2022 22:28

@DreamerSeven

Total over-reaction to report you but your response was a bit smug!
You’re a full timer aren’t you? A part-timer would not see this as smug! It’s just a normal comment.
MrsDThomas · 30/01/2022 22:33

Tell her to eat some biscuits next time.

Dont people have food in their drawers?

I always have a cereal bar/nuts whatever

DixonD · 30/01/2022 22:56

I finish at 2pm three days a week. I cannot stay longer. It probably annoys my colleagues.

But…

When I get in I log in from home to finish work. I log on from home on my days off. I stay full days during the school holidays (an extra 9 hours a week) for no extra pay. When I was on annual leave and my colleague came down with coronavirus I logged in from home and worked. I didn’t get those holiday days back.

I worked full time for 12 years at my firm before going part time. I used to work Saturdays for nothing.

But yes, all part timers are lazy and work shy.

sadpapercourtesan · 30/01/2022 22:58

How pathetic of her. I suspect she is the kind of professional whinger who is constantly running to tattle on people for trivial reasons. I'd be surprised if the manager did more than eyeroll.

TheJade · 30/01/2022 23:06

Omg 😆 I wouldn’t worry, you can’t get sacked for it.

Blinky21 · 30/01/2022 23:32

I didn't read it as smug more along the lines of "I'm hungry but I can't complain I've already had lunch and will be off soon". Your colleague sounds like a nightmare, wasting a manager's time with that rubbish

daisychain01 · 31/01/2022 04:23

@Tzimi

Why couldn't your colleague just pop outside for 5 minutes & have a snack to satisfy her hunger?
Niw that would be far too sensible and grown-up.

They clearly want to become a self-made martyr. Either that, or their job is so utterly mind-numbingly dull, they want to make a fuss over nothing to brighten their day.

Dibbydoos · 31/01/2022 07:42

OP this made me laugh. I hope everyone laughed!!!

BTW hunger makes people understand perform. Maybe they'd have been better to grab 10mins each to eat during the mad few hours???!!!!

guardiansofthegalaxychocs · 31/01/2022 07:59

@grapewine

Why people get pissed off, is in incidents like this, when all the full time people (earning the same hourly rate) end up pulling their weight far more. It's the full timers, at 5pm who always end up with the "we need to stay until this is done" and working til 7pm, while the part timer walks out at 4pm because "that's when they finish" and is never there at the end of the day when the problems happen.

This has been my experience as well tbh.

That’s an issue with the company though rather than the part timers.

I definitely do more work over my hours than my full time colleagues as it’s a noticeable big deal when they stay late, but when I stay late people forget that I’m 3 hours over my finish time. If they were there until 8pm that would most definitely be noticed!

Bangolads · 31/01/2022 09:50

Tbh with you you both sound a bit silly.

Lolamento · 31/01/2022 10:32

Do they employed 5 years old in your company? If so expect to be demanded an apology. This is so ridiculous and how can someone like that be hired. Please do keep us update about this specimen for good laughs.

Longleggedgiraffe · 31/01/2022 17:29

Oh, please! I can't believe this is an issue. Since when have we become such a bunch of wingers and whiners that we have to be offended at a simple off the cuff remark about being hungry. Your work colleague needs a lesson on the life of hard knocks. What a flaky person. I hope your manager gave her whst or for wasting her time on such a thing.

Feeascotime · 01/02/2022 09:19

Re part timers not putting in extra ours and behaving like they're, "not part of the team".
They do not get benefits such as pension, health insurance and could be unemployed with a weeks notice. THEN, they not part of the team. Some go on to second part-time jobs. If the company needs to make them put in extra time regularly - then do the right thing and make them permanent. The company is the one keeping their hours down because if they go over the prescribed amount legally they have to pay a higher hourly rate. If you're tired and Hungary sort it out with you manager. Part timer advantage/right to leave early. Full timers have other privileges.

Meandthesky · 01/02/2022 13:43

feeascotime you seem to be confusing part time workers and temporary workers.

Part time workers who are on permanent contracts are entitled to the same benefits and protections as full time permanent employees. If they’re very low paid and doing very few hours they may not be automatically enrolled in a pension as there’s an earnings threshold. But they still have all other rights and protections so can’t just be let go with a weeks notice.

Lolabray · 01/02/2022 13:44

Sad to report you but I see her point if she was starving ..

iklboo · 01/02/2022 17:03

Sad to report you but I see her point if she was starving ..

Unless she's seven years old, no. Why can't people these days realise different people experience different things differently (deliberate use) and no, life isn't always equal & fair. It's ridiculous to get upset or offended because you're hungry and do someone said they weren't. It's not like OP was preventing the colleague eating. The colleague made the decision herself to defer lunch until after 3pm.

The OP mentioned she'd had her lunch and was leaving school, not spouting racist / sexist / homophobic / misogynistic rhetoric. If the colleague gets upset over such trivial reasons, enough to report OP to managers, she really needs to get a grip.

Anonymous48 · 01/02/2022 17:22

It was a ridiculous thing to report you for, but it was a pretty stupid comment that you made to be honest. You had already had your lunch but you complained that you were hungry before 3pm?
