OK hope I can explain this without outing myself.

I work part time and have my lunch at 11.30, the full timers all go for lunch at 1.30. Yesterday an urgent project came up that had to be finished by 3pm.
I had already had my lunch as it hadn't come through by then. Some of the full timers decided to take their lunches after 3pm to complete the project.
One of my colleagues kept complaining about how hungry she was I replied - Im feeling hungry now too, I can't moan though Ive had lunch and I'm finishing soon.
She reported me to my manager for rubbing it in the full timers faces that I was finishing and had my lunch 🤣

Some people will complain about anything and are usually the ones who think they are so hard done by. I work part time hours, a full time member who is almost 20 years younger than me constantly makes comments about how lucky people are that work part time and don't have to work full time AND juggle childcare etc etc. I have in the past pointed out I haven't always worked part time and my children did not come out of the womb aged 20! Doesn't make any difference though, she just thinks her life is so much harder than any one elses.

KateyKontent · 29/01/2022 15:36

@tigger1001

Yeah totally not worthy of a report. She just made herself look a bit daft, unless a backstory of other comments made etc.

It was a bit smug though and would have made me roll my eyes at you. Saying you are hungry too when you've had your lunch to others who have worked through theirs is just a bit twattish.

You were aware that your colleagues had missed lunch and you said "I'm feeling hungry now too, I can't moan though I've had lunch and I'm finishing soon". Your colleague overacted, you were trying to provoke a response".

You sound like an arse.

ReadySteadyTwins · 29/01/2022 15:36

@AlternativePerspective

Seriously, mentioning being hungry is tactless? Bullying? Dick comment?

I see the twelve year olds have made it on to this thread.

I mean you'd have to be 12 to not understand only a complete dick stands in front of people so hungry, they are complaining, and spouts "I've already eaten haven't I, but I could manage some more, handy I'll be fucking off soon isn't it, while you all carry on working, then I'll have had two meals to your none".

That's why. Not because OP innocently said "I'm hungry."

And if you don't get that, I don't have the patience, nor the Crayola, to explain it any more simply.

Comeoverafterdinner · 29/01/2022 15:42

If I was her manager I would have a word about her wasting my time with petty issues.

She sounds like a child. I wouldn’t make much effort to speak to her from now on. Can’t be arsed with people like that. If you’d said that to me I would have made a comment back about you having lunch in a lighthearted way. Not gone to the manager 😂

Comeoverafterdinner · 29/01/2022 15:44

Some people have an issue with people who work part time. Although I work full time now, I was part time when my kids were younger and had many comments made about me being lucky etc or people moaning that I was leaving.

They failed to take into consideration that I was receiving half of their salary.

ReadySteadyTwins · 29/01/2022 15:51

Completely agree that this incident in isolation is of absolutely no need to be reported.

Agree with many, OP sounds like a smug arse, who can't possibly work out what the problem is. (Clue, she knows she was a dick. And the faux innocence doesn't wash with the people she made the comments too)

On that basis, it's probably not the first time OP has "accidentally" rubbed her colleagues up the wrong way. And this has just tipped one of them over the edge. If someone has been biting their tongue for some time, whilst this "hunger" thing might have been the last straw, it will have been the trigger that's made one of the others finally go and seek out the manager about OP in general.

grapewine · 29/01/2022 15:54

@DoNotGetADog

It’s unreasonable to report you, but surely you must realise that if someone’s not had any lunch at all by 3pm as they are working and you have had yours, then saying “I’m hungry too” is not the done thing.
This! Your comment would have been so annoying to me if I was hungry. What was the need?
StoneofDestiny · 29/01/2022 15:55

She sounds nuts!

Grapewrath · 29/01/2022 15:56

You both sound really childish. Thoughtless and goady comment from you, over reaction from her

CaveWoman1 · 29/01/2022 15:58

No she’s being petty & ridiculous & has taken your (clearly) lighthearted joke as a personal slight. She must be a really difficult person to work with if she overreacts like this at the slightest opportunity. Steer well clear of her from now on. Don’t make any more jokey comments (at least, not to her.)

WetLookKnitwear · 29/01/2022 16:00

It was a dickhead comment to make but not something you should be reported for

This is bonkers. You work fewer hours for less money, no need for others to be envious. I could understand if you worked less hours for the same pay they receive full time! Why do people complain about this? They could do the same for less money, too, so why don't they?!
careerchangemaybe · 29/01/2022 16:03

And the irony is, she should be complaining to the manager about the deadline that created the expectation of missing lunch, which was the reason she was hungry in the first place! That's surely the real issue here, not the fact OP chose to eat at 11.30am and commented about it.

TokyoDreaming · 29/01/2022 16:04

Your colleague needs to get a grip.

ABitBesottedWithMyDog · 29/01/2022 16:06

I wouldn't have reported her but equally I think your comment was a bit insensitive.

Work should have ordered in food, though. Your manager is shit.

SeasonFinale · 29/01/2022 16:06

Did she "report" you or did she just comment to the manager along the lines of user(number) is a bit of a twatt to make a remark like that when the rest of the team are pulling together to get an urgent matter done.

Perhaps learn to read the room

ReadySteadyTwins · 29/01/2022 16:08

Part time people are not these poor little people on half the salary. They are on the same salary, but work half the hours. Hour per hour, they're on the same.

Why people get pissed off, is in incidents like this, when all the full time people (earning the same hourly rate) end up pulling their weight far more. It's the full timers, at 5pm who always end up with the "we need to stay until this is done" and working til 7pm, while the part timer walks out at 4pm because "that's when they finish" and is never there at the end of the day when the problems happen.

Here, OP gets her fill of food, then sits there with this "I'm ok, Jack" attitude. You lot are hungry, and having to meet a deadline, but I've eaten and going home before the problem is fixed.

The full timers being paid hour by hour, the same as OP, are the ones that have to forgo their food. That have to get the job done. OP couldn't give a toss. She's there for her lesser hours, not a team effort. And they have picked up on that. That will be what the "report" about her will be. Hence the mention of "part time."

No one's calling in HR over today's incident alone. This will be a backstory of them being sick of her shit.

Bonbon21 · 29/01/2022 16:10

OMG... I thought child labour was banned in this country some time ago.... has your manager stopped laughing yet?

This happened to me a colleague told me I was so lucky to only work half days 🙄 I'm recovering from cancer.
ThePlumVan · 29/01/2022 16:13

I literally cannot believe that a grown adult would take the time to even think about this, never mind repeat it in the form or a complaint.
I’m hoping your manager told the to jog on once they’d stopped laughing!

Some of these comments too Grin

CaveWoman1 · 29/01/2022 16:15

@ReadySteadyTwins

That’s quite a narrative you’ve created there. It’s certainly a possibility but you’re assuming a lot

I agree with this. I work part time too and if your working day isn’t organised right you can end up doing more or less than the share you’re paid for. It depends on the job.

I think it’s a hard balance sometimes and everyone has to try to be fair.

Glitterbells · 29/01/2022 16:18

I can’t believe people are even sympathising with her.
If we were all this scared that a little off the hand remark could offend an adult, who thinks they are hard done by, then we would be scared to speak.

If your manager even raises with you, turn it back round, tell them you were empathising with her, that you already had eaten and were still hungry, so can’t imagine how she must have been feeling.

ddl1 · 29/01/2022 16:18

It's a perfectly normal comment! I suppose it could depend slightly on the tone of voice. But even if you sounded gloaty to her, it is completely OTT of her to complain to the manager!

WetLookKnitwear · 29/01/2022 16:19

Having said that I don’t know if that comment has much in common with OPs situation in real life!
