OK hope I can explain this without outing myself.

I work part time and have my lunch at 11.30, the full timers all go for lunch at 1.30. Yesterday an urgent project came up that had to be finished by 3pm.
I had already had my lunch as it hadn't come through by then. Some of the full timers decided to take their lunches after 3pm to complete the project.
One of my colleagues kept complaining about how hungry she was I replied - Im feeling hungry now too, I can't moan though Ive had lunch and I'm finishing soon.
She reported me to my manager for rubbing it in the full timers faces that I was finishing and had my lunch 🤣

Take her a fruit shoot & some kiddie friendly snacks. She's obviously beyond childish. I hope your manager told her to crack on to herself.

shinynewapple22 · 29/01/2022 14:27

Rather a tactless comment - but reporting you? Is there prior history? What is your relationship like normally ? Sounds childish.

AlternativePerspective · 29/01/2022 14:31

Seriously, mentioning being hungry is tactless? Bullying? Dick comment?

I see the twelve year olds have made it on to this thread.

eurochick · 29/01/2022 14:35

If one of my team brought this complaint to me my eyes would roll so hard they would roll off my head.

cstaff · 29/01/2022 14:41

Did the manager take this seriously. Please tell me that they laughed in her face. Ffs

OfstedOffred · 29/01/2022 14:42

Omg mad. It's not the end of the world for a healthy adult to last til 3pm for lunch, couldnt they have just grabbed a tea/coffee snack to have on the go

Twixxed · 29/01/2022 14:46

Colleague was definitely unreasonable to report you. But depending on your tone she might not have been unreasonable to be annoyed.

MushMonster · 29/01/2022 14:48

Pathetic and laughable.
She has a point to complain if they were asked not to have a lunch break, but not about you!
If she did it because everyone was doing it, then she is an idiot. It would taker 10 min to eat something quickly, less time that moaning!

nitsandwormsdodger · 29/01/2022 14:50

Everyone deals with stress differently she dealt with it by being a petty bitch your collegial relationship with this woman is zero , how do you know she reported you have you had a meeting??

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 29/01/2022 14:52

@AgentJohnson

She’s an idiot for reporting you but you were rubbing her face in it, why, God only knows. Your manager needs to employ grown ups.
Adults don’t consider this as “rubbing her face in it”

Anyone who considers this a “dick move” or “rubbing it in” need to pull their heads out of their own areas and grow up. The world doesn’t revolve around you.

WonderfulYou · 29/01/2022 14:53

I wouldn’t have reported you but I think your comment was insensitive - you knew they weren’t going to eat until after 3pm and you had already eaten.

I don’t know what you work as or what the lunches are like but surely they could have each taken 20mins max to eat some food so I think she’s being OTT.

Folklore9074 · 29/01/2022 14:55

Reporting you to the manager is very much like telling tales to the teacher imo but it was a tactless comment from you and unlikely to win you any friends.

Squirrelsbizaare · 29/01/2022 14:56

how do you know she reported you ?
has the manager spoken to you about this ?

iklboo · 29/01/2022 15:02

Bollocks to 'you were rubbing her face in it'. OP was saying she'd eaten & was going home soon which is a fact. She can't help that colleagues work full time. What's next? Getting sacked because you say you're looking forward to a day off / weekend / holiday?

There seems to be a national shortage of grips these days.

rwalker · 29/01/2022 15:02

Your poor manager having to deal with petty shit like this .
Not really a lot they could do might call you in and tell you what's been said and ask for your comments .

skyeisthelimit · 29/01/2022 15:03

what a petty over sensitive person and how ridiculous to report a comment like that to a manager. The manage should have told them not to be so daft.

JuergenSchwarzwald · 29/01/2022 15:18

@DoNotGetADog

It’s unreasonable to report you, but surely you must realise that if someone’s not had any lunch at all by 3pm as they are working and you have had yours, then saying “I’m hungry too” is not the done thing.
Oh for goodness sake the OP was just making conversation. I am glad I don't work with some of the people on this thread. How dare anyone say they are hungry. For the record, I am always hungry, including 5 minutes after I've finished lunch.
JuergenSchwarzwald · 29/01/2022 15:20

@Folklore9074

Reporting you to the manager is very much like telling tales to the teacher imo but it was a tactless comment from you and unlikely to win you any friends.
Sigh.

The colleague's complaint was completely ridiculous. As a pp said, god help the poor manager who has to deal with rubbish like this.

I wonder why some people like working from home away from colleagues who have never matured beyond primary school.

careerchangemaybe · 29/01/2022 15:24

Utterly ridiculous reason to make a complaint! She needs to get a grip. And she can't ever mention the fact that she works full time and is paid to do so, then. As that would be "rubbing your face in it", being part time and on less money... 🙄

Cantleave · 29/01/2022 15:25

“One of my colleagues kept complaining about how hungry she was”

Your colleague could have just went for lunch, as she was entitled to do, rather than winging about how hungry she was! It’s not your problem that she was hungry, it’s the managers problem.

If this type of thing is happening, and colleagues are not able to take their legal breaks, the manager needs to look at the current structure of working. Maybe break times need to be staggered, so there is always proper cover to do the work and to suit the needs of the company!

sleaf · 29/01/2022 15:30

@user8766098 I don't think you are telling us the full story here. Sounds like there's some history.

Thisisit2022 · 29/01/2022 15:32

Oooh I can see how, on the face of it, to most normal people YANBU...but if I hadn't eaten by 3pm my absolute inner hanger would probably have been released, full-force and I would probably have eaten you, not reported you.

SandAndSea · 29/01/2022 15:32

Some people are petty.

NashvilleQueen · 29/01/2022 15:32

What time do you finish?

daisychain01 · 29/01/2022 15:34

What a bunch of special snowflakes.

Can't anyone say anything nowadays without being professionally offended?
