To ask what salary...

I've just been having a chat with a friend about salary as he is currently on the look out for a new job, he was quite surprised when I told him my salary.

It's got me thinking, so what kind of Salary would you expect from this role?

Main duties:
Providing bespoke quotations to suit customers needs

Taking orders and entering onto account systems

Sending proforma invoices / taking payment

Putting together production sheets using formulas on excel for every order (always bespoke)

Answering phone and email queries

Outsourcing costs for components / ordering them when needed (this is not so often)

Taking care of all social media and website

Making Eflyers for marketing campaigns

All other basic administrative duties such as keeping spreadsheets up to date.

Location - Suffolk.
Time at Company - 15 years
Around 15 employees.

It seems quite low after you’ve been there 15 years. I started work doing similar stuff for web design in 2006. I had no previous knowledge and I was earning 20k then.
I’d expect closer to 25k or more now.

fetchacloth · 26/01/2022 19:08

SE location maybe c £25-30K
In West Midlands near to me, you might be lucky to get £18-20k

maltesers99 · 26/01/2022 19:08

30k

Borderterrierpuppy · 26/01/2022 19:20

£35000

Any reason you can’t ask for a raise.

If you pay a piviotol role in the company, they may be willing to pay more to keep a good employee.

All they could do is say no.

@prettyisall

I remember a long time ago, having a job which absorbed as many hours as I threw into it. It wasn't until I left it that I realised that the workload had increased by 60% over three years.

Are there records that you have to hand that show how much business is generated by your work - how many of your bespoke quotations turn into business done etc?

Many bosses consider jobs to be unskilled that are in fact very easy to cock-up, having evidence to hand always helps negotiations - even if you don't hand it over.

Endlessrunner · 26/01/2022 19:29

That would be about £19k here

Endlessrunner · 26/01/2022 19:31

Sorry just seen your update. I think your salary is quite good for the type of role you’re doing Smile

Newestname002 · 26/01/2022 19:32

Before you have your cost of living review in March, would you be prepared to update your CV and job description, @prettyisall and speak to recruitment companies/do some job interviews externally to get an idea of your worth would be on the open market? It doesn't sound as though your current employer really values your and experience and skills and/or assume you are perfectly happy financially if you haven't pushed for an uplift in salary when they've asked you to do more? Are you performing over and above your job description?

Perhaps the above exercise might give you more confidence at your March meeting to ask to be properly benchmarked?

Also do you know where in your salary band, if any, you currently are in your company? 🌹

Nidan2Sandan · 26/01/2022 19:35

£22k‐£24k

Tohaveandtohold · 26/01/2022 19:50

I would say between £19k to 25k for the responsibility.
But that’s such a low salary increase in 15 years. I guess you’re comfortable in the role otherwise it’ll be a good idea to see what this will get you elsewhere.

Maze76 · 26/01/2022 20:29

Hi OP
I would put the minimum salary for your role to be 23k , given length of service, location and role. Do you get any perks, bonuses, great annual leave ?

Suipigz · 27/01/2022 07:19

Sounds similar to my colleagues and me in the NHS. Minimum wage. Sorry

cherish123 · 27/01/2022 08:31

Outside London - £20k
