To ask what salary...

prettyisall · 25/01/2022 18:39

I've just been having a chat with a friend about salary as he is currently on the look out for a new job, he was quite surprised when I told him my salary.

It's got me thinking, so what kind of Salary would you expect from this role?

Main duties:
Providing bespoke quotations to suit customers needs

Taking orders and entering onto account systems

Sending proforma invoices / taking payment

Putting together production sheets using formulas on excel for every order (always bespoke)

Answering phone and email queries

Outsourcing costs for components / ordering them when needed (this is not so often)

Taking care of all social media and website

Making Eflyers for marketing campaigns

All other basic administrative duties such as keeping spreadsheets up to date.

Location - Suffolk.
Time at Company - 15 years
Around 15 employees.

22k by dint of being there so long. The tasks are entry level admin.

Hotcuppatea · 25/01/2022 19:06

Do you line manage anyone? If not, then about 23k. If yes, then closer to £30k.

Bluesheep8 · 25/01/2022 19:06

20 - 22k

PattyPan · 25/01/2022 19:06

£25k?

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 25/01/2022 19:08

£28k assuming you are not selling luxury or big ticket items.

So £25k for mdf kitchen units.
£40k for luxury yachts.

Hugasauras · 25/01/2022 19:09

It's an odd mix of entry-level admin with a couple more specialist tasks. I'm guessing it's just how the role has evolved over time as you've been there so long. I'd say mid-20s but it's hard to estimate when you've been somewhere for so long and the job has kind of morphed.

BlowDryRat · 25/01/2022 19:09

£23-£25k I think, unless the marketing aspect is a serious chunk of the role. Then I'd think about £30-£35k.

Havanananana · 25/01/2022 19:10

Depends on a number of factors.

  • What is the value of the "bespoke quotations"? £5, £500 or £50,000? Who else can do these quotations? How long would it take someone else to reach your level of competence? (Ditto for some of the other tasks such as outsourcing)
  • How many people / how much work is dependent on you getting the production sheets right? What is the cost to the business if you get it wrong (lost orders, delays, wasted time and materials etc.)?
  • Taking orders, answering phone and email queries - is this all passive and incoming, or do you actively make outbound sales calls too, follow up with regular customers, manage the relationship with a number of key customers etc?
  • How important is the social media, website and e-flyers activity? Does it result in sales? If so, how much or what proportion of turnover comes this way?

If the answer to any of the above is "significant" and you are doing this for £17k - £20k as one poster suggested, someone is getting a great deal (and it isn't you).

Depending on the industry, size of business, annual turnover etc. you could possibly be worth anywhere between £25k and £45k - even in Suffolk. Get onto some of the job sites and see what jobs that involve similar tasks are paying.

rainbowandglitter · 25/01/2022 19:10

I'd guess around £23k

Redhotchllisteppa · 25/01/2022 19:11

Around £25k possibly a couple of grand higher due to your long service

EinsteinaGogo · 25/01/2022 19:12

I would say that around £22k ish too, unless the company has given you regular pay rises, in which case, your 15 years could see you on mid £30k range.

SmilingHappyBeaver · 25/01/2022 19:12

£28-30k

prettyisall · 25/01/2022 19:12

Thanks for all the replies!

I'm actually on just over 20k, my friend said there are similar admin / marketing assistant entry roles around for 23- 24k in this area so with length of time and product knowledge etc he would have expected 25k.

It was just out of curiosity really, I like the company and the people I work with so i guess that's why I have not really thought about it.
Another couple wouldn't go a miss though haha.

Thanks all!

£25Kish

Summersdreaming · 25/01/2022 19:14

25k

wallysally · 25/01/2022 19:14

Has your wage increased since you started there 15 years ago @prettyisall? 20k after 15years is pretty shite...

DDfollowed · 25/01/2022 19:14

That's really low OP, especially with 15 years service. I'd start shopping around based on other posters' guesses.

7Worfs · 25/01/2022 19:15

If you like your company, start a conversation about updating your remuneration in line with the market

IMissSunnyDays · 25/01/2022 19:16

25-30k, given you've been there so long. General admin and data input by the sounds of it, apologies if I'm wrong.

doadeer · 25/01/2022 19:16

That sounds really low to me.

I'm a marketing director but we pay grads £20-£25k for entry roles and they don't own the website or social media just contribute to it.

Whohashiddenthebiscuits · 25/01/2022 19:17

I’m a recruiter - if you are looking for someone with that experience, £25k in the South East. Someone who has moved up into the role, £22-25k

BurntO · 25/01/2022 19:17

I have a friend in a similar role on 28k

rainyskylight · 25/01/2022 19:17

That is way too low for 15 years service.

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 25/01/2022 19:17

I think you need a pay rise. If you left they wouldn't replace you on that salary.

schoolsoutforever · 25/01/2022 19:19

South East but not at all London (tbs Portsmouth), I agree 25k ish
