To ask what salary...

prettyisall · 25/01/2022 18:39

I've just been having a chat with a friend about salary as he is currently on the look out for a new job, he was quite surprised when I told him my salary.

It's got me thinking, so what kind of Salary would you expect from this role?

Main duties:
Providing bespoke quotations to suit customers needs

Taking orders and entering onto account systems

Sending proforma invoices / taking payment

Putting together production sheets using formulas on excel for every order (always bespoke)

Answering phone and email queries

Outsourcing costs for components / ordering them when needed (this is not so often)

Taking care of all social media and website

Making Eflyers for marketing campaigns

All other basic administrative duties such as keeping spreadsheets up to date.

Location - Suffolk.
Time at Company - 15 years
Around 15 employees.

Sounds similar to my role although my quotes are every niche and technical. I earn nearly that and I am on 20 hours! You definitely need to question the pay with that many years service and the variety in the role. I would look at similar roles in the area and check what they’re advertised at and start from there.

£27k
lennybruceisnotafraid · 25/01/2022 22:26

15 years and only on just over £20k - they're taking huge advantage of you! Wow, also have you not progressed up any levels? That's really basic entry level admin assistant duties.

DinosApple · 25/01/2022 22:32

I'm also in Suffolk and wages are low for that type of role. But I would definitely raise it at your review and try to negotiate a better rise.

Better paid similar roles are available in Cambridge, but local jobs are poorly paid.

sanbeiji · 25/01/2022 22:34

@ThePlumVan

It’s interesting that many of you think length of service means higher salary. Surely the role is assessed at a grade irrelevant of who’s carrying it out, with the exception of a small increment due to the learning curve ? You don’t want a situation where staff are carrying out the same role but on different salaries.
There should be a small inflation increases at least (1-2%). Not an admin assistant earning more than senior staff just because they happened to be there longer.
lljkk · 25/01/2022 22:50

£20k in Suffolk doesn't surprise me.

Justkeeppedaling · 25/01/2022 22:56

£25k-ish.

Cherryblossoms85 · 25/01/2022 22:58

God, 20k, that's shocking. If have expected 30k. I'm a software developer in financial services, good degree, 20 years experience, but the job is pretty easy, and I earn 135k.

I'm sure stating your salary is helpful to the OP Hmm

Wow I bloody hate IT stuff but things like this make me think I should retrain.

And it's honestly easy?!

OP I thought yiu were going to say £25k.

TiddyTidTwo · 26/01/2022 00:10

I was going to say £18-20k based in Suffolk.

sanbeiji · 26/01/2022 08:28

@EmmaH2022
Most things are easy with 20 years experience

anniegun · 26/01/2022 10:23

£30k

FiloPasty · 26/01/2022 11:11

Has this inspired you to speak to your employees @prettyisall?

One thing that you’ve not said is if the company is doing well, was it impacted by Covid? If the company has grown over the years and turning a good profit then you definitely need to speak up.

I’m in Education and a similar role (in Oxfordshire) would be £19-21k. In other, non-public sectors probably £24-27k
james85 · 26/01/2022 17:46

Sis is advertising a similar job in Central London. But without the eFlyers and specialist part ordering, Starting Salary £31k. Having to readvertise because very poor standard of applicants, no one good enough to interview. Every day in office, because two people in each day.

Carpedimum · 26/01/2022 17:55

Max 25k

LoisLane66 · 26/01/2022 17:56

I'd say £20k but that's before looking at other poster's answers.

Skyyy · 26/01/2022 17:59

I do the same job for 31
You should have been getting increases per year
Find jobs with similar duties similar industry and ask boss to try and match.

Yuckypretty · 26/01/2022 18:01

28k

Tulipomania · 26/01/2022 18:04

Assume this isn't a graduate role?

Radiohat · 26/01/2022 18:06

To be realistic , I think you should be talking at least 40 K ... That is a lot of responsibility....keeping clients happy , bespoke work and looking after social media ? 😀 and we all know how important social media is.... that can account for thousands of increased profits !!..... and I do hope you are earning a good wedge......

Fluffmum · 26/01/2022 18:15

23 k

ListeningButNotHearing · 26/01/2022 18:15

35K at least.

FlamingRoses · 26/01/2022 18:30

No more than 25k.
