I've just been having a chat with a friend about salary as he is currently on the look out for a new job, he was quite surprised when I told him my salary.

It's got me thinking, so what kind of Salary would you expect from this role?

Main duties:
Providing bespoke quotations to suit customers needs

Taking orders and entering onto account systems

Sending proforma invoices / taking payment

Putting together production sheets using formulas on excel for every order (always bespoke)

Answering phone and email queries

Outsourcing costs for components / ordering them when needed (this is not so often)

Taking care of all social media and website

Making Eflyers for marketing campaigns

All other basic administrative duties such as keeping spreadsheets up to date.

Location - Suffolk.
Time at Company - 15 years
Around 15 employees.

Hi OP
I would put the minimum salary for your role to be 23k , given length of service, location and role. Do you get any perks, bonuses, great annual leave ?

I would say between £19k to 25k for the responsibility.
But that’s such a low salary increase in 15 years. I guess you’re comfortable in the role otherwise it’ll be a good idea to see what this will get you elsewhere.

Before you have your cost of living review in March, would you be prepared to update your CV and job description, @prettyisall and speak to recruitment companies/do some job interviews externally to get an idea of your worth would be on the open market? It doesn't sound as though your current employer really values your and experience and skills and/or assume you are perfectly happy financially if you haven't pushed for an uplift in salary when they've asked you to do more? Are you performing over and above your job description?

Perhaps the above exercise might give you more confidence at your March meeting to ask to be properly benchmarked?

Also do you know where in your salary band, if any, you currently are in your company? 🌹

Sorry just seen your update. I think your salary is quite good for the type of role you’re doing Smile

That would be about £19k here

@prettyisall

I remember a long time ago, having a job which absorbed as many hours as I threw into it. It wasn't until I left it that I realised that the workload had increased by 60% over three years.

Are there records that you have to hand that show how much business is generated by your work - how many of your bespoke quotations turn into business done etc?

Many bosses consider jobs to be unskilled that are in fact very easy to cock-up, having evidence to hand always helps negotiations - even if you don't hand it over.

Any reason you can’t ask for a raise.

If you pay a piviotol role in the company, they may be willing to pay more to keep a good employee.

All they could do is say no.

It seems quite low after you’ve been there 15 years. I started work doing similar stuff for web design in 2006. I had no previous knowledge and I was earning 20k then.
I’d expect closer to 25k or more now.

Radiohat · 26/01/2022 18:06

To be realistic , I think you should be talking at least 40 K ... That is a lot of responsibility....keeping clients happy , bespoke work and looking after social media ? 😀 and we all know how important social media is.... that can account for thousands of increased profits !!..... and I do hope you are earning a good wedge......

I do the same job for 31
You should have been getting increases per year
Find jobs with similar duties similar industry and ask boss to try and match.

I'd say £20k but that's before looking at other poster's answers.

Sis is advertising a similar job in Central London. But without the eFlyers and specialist part ordering, Starting Salary £31k. Having to readvertise because very poor standard of applicants, no one good enough to interview. Every day in office, because two people in each day.

I’m in Education and a similar role (in Oxfordshire) would be £19-21k. In other, non-public sectors probably £24-27k
