To have my pyjamas on when MIL visits?

MIL is visiting this evening. Today I've been out walking, come home had a nice bath and put PJs on.

DH thinks I should get dressed, I'm willing to compromise with a hoody over the PJs but the spotty trousers will give it away.

Am I a slattern for even considering it? MIL is too polite to mention it.

I'll happily wear pyjamas and dressing gown if family/ OH's family are visiting. Or dressing gown over my clothes. I'll sometimes put a bra on, depending on the pyjamas and how much they show 🙈

Anyone else and I'd definitely get dressed!

mothernaturesson · 23/01/2022 20:11

Put some bloody clothes on and have some pride for goodness sake.

I don't get comments like this. Pjs ARE clothes. What's pride got to do with it?
TheHouseWivesFavourite · 23/01/2022 20:14

It's bedclothes. It's slovenly and lazy. Unless you're in bed pyjamas shouldn't be anywhere but the bedroom drawer. Just pure and utter bum behaviour

Slovenly and lazy to get a bath and then get into pjs? Confused

Why does judgemental arse seem to be the flavour of the day on here today?

Roystonv · 23/01/2022 20:25

It's a nope from me. I am in my 60's and to me keeping standards is important both individually and as a society unless as pp said the visit is unexpected, you are ill or a new mum. You don't have to be smart but just appropriately dressed for the 'event'.

Silverswirl · 23/01/2022 20:25

@ChargingBuck oh right- that’s a new one on me- I thought pyjamas were for sleeping in, like that was their sole purpose. What do you sleep in then? Never heard of owning pjamas and not sleeping in them.
Personally I feel horrible if I’m in pjamas after an hour or so of being awake. Just feels slobby and like I can’t start my day. Would want anyone to knock round and still be in my pj’s either and wouldn’t anymore dream lf going out in pjs than I would in only a thong and bra but I guess we are all different!

dworky · 23/01/2022 20:26

Wear what makes you comfortable - I would hate to think someone I visited felt they couldn't relax in their own home.

BABAHOTEL · 23/01/2022 20:26

@KurtWilde good to see you again! On this one. I've been told I need help because I said 5pm is acceptable PJ time!

Fuck me, people have serious mental health issues the the NHS can't find the resources to deal with and I need help for my PJ wearing time.

Trolleedollee · 23/01/2022 20:29

I think I live in a parallel universe. Whilst I might put pyjamas on after dinner I have never worn them all day, left the house in them or entertained anyone in them. I have also never gone round to anyones house and they’ve had their pyjamas on

Warmduscher · 23/01/2022 20:30

Again - what is it about wearing clothes and not nightwear that makes people feel they can’t relax? Do people genuinely feel tense unless they’re wearing their nightwear?
GreetingsAndSalutations · 23/01/2022 20:30

It’s your own home and it’s only a family member, wear what you want.

merrymouse · 23/01/2022 20:36

I think a lot of this depends on whether you think you are entertaining or hanging out with a close family member doing whatever you normally do at that time of day.

KurtWilde · 23/01/2022 20:36

@BABAHOTEL hello!! Glad to see some of us are down to Earth eh. We clearly need to check into pj rehab Grin

Tbf I wouldn't be seen dead in PJs in the morning purely because I look awful and am probably smelly in the morning. I always roll out of bed into the shower/bath and then get dressed. Sometimes into fresh PJ's!

GeorgiaGirl52 · 23/01/2022 20:39

@Envoitrevisage

I’d get dressed. If you own nothing sufficiently comfortable for a cup of coffee than pyjamas, then you’ve got bigger problems.

I’d think it rude if someone wasn’t dressed.

This^ Pajamas say "Hurry up and leave, I want to go to bed."

PJ rehab GrinGrin love it!

I'm going to make an appointment with my GO tomorrow, to get the help I so obviously need.

He would bloody love that!

merrymouse · 23/01/2022 20:41

At this time of year it is lovely to go out into the cold and do something muddy and active and then have a bath and change into pyjamas and relax with the family.

Not at 5 pm they don't!

Bliss!
userxx · 23/01/2022 20:44

You need loungewear. Not as casual as Pyjamas but still super comfy.

itsgettingweird · 23/01/2022 20:45

Well "loungewear" has become clothing these past 2 years!

I'd say a pair of bottoms and hoody isn't any different to tracksuit. So as long as they are well fitted and not see through I don't see the issue!

She's family.

Same

I don't think it's a class thing either, as my family (WC) and DH's family (MC) are both the same.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 23/01/2022 20:49

Ah see to me pajamas say "I feel comfortable around you"

Darbs76 · 23/01/2022 20:50

A hoodie over the top is fine, it’s your home, wouldn’t bother me one bit if someone was wearing PJ’s in their own home, plus she’s family
