The Sue Gray report is on ice now!
., the met will drag their feet I suppose

Trilley · 25/01/2022 10:53

Pointing out that we do not know whether it was 30 people or 10 is simply doing that - pointing out that we do not know something

So what's the relevance? For all those people who were charged and fined for holding parties, would they be any less guilty if I came on here and said I didn't know whether they had 10 or 30 people at their parties?

the80sweregreat · 25/01/2022 10:58

Is 10 people ok then ? As long it as it wasn't 30 ?
All the Met have to do is check what the rules for on each day that the parties happened
Won't be too hard , just look online or at the briefings. I'm sure the BBC will provide the footage of all the briefings !!
It might take them a day , but it's not that hard is it ?

ClaudineClare · 25/01/2022 10:58

"Sky News understands the Cabinet office will not be publishing Gray report while a criminal investigation is ongoing"

Oh, how convenient! I am sure the BBC said the opposite, but I must have misheard.

Can Johnson continue as PM if he is the subject of a criminal investigation?

Trilley · 25/01/2022 11:00

I wonder if the police evidence includes the fact that more than 4 people turned up for the evening birthday gathering? That would make that one illegal as well even if they stayed out in the garden.

the80sweregreat · 25/01/2022 11:00

So someone who is potentially under a criminal investigation can stand up in parliament at PMQs tomorrow?
How?

ClaudineClare · 25/01/2022 11:05

I can't decide if this is a good thing for Johnson because publication of the Gray report is now kicked into the long grass or a bad thing as he is now subject to a criminal investigation, which surely must compromise his position as PM.

I suspect this is to his advantage though. Ho hum.

Trilley
So what's the relevance?

Truth. Sorry if you are not interested in it, but I am.

the80sweregreat · 25/01/2022 11:06

Can a potential criminal actually carry on working ? I think the parties may stop though

Florianus · 25/01/2022 11:07

Is 10 people ok then ? As long it as it wasn't 30 ?

No, but once you say that truth and accuracy don't matter, then the entire argument is lost.

Trilley · 25/01/2022 11:07

The Ukraine diversion tactic is probably a bit unwise. You have to wonder whether a factor in Putin's decision-making is that one of Ukraine's greatest allies is governed by people who can't give it their attention because they're caught up in a scandal entirely of their own making.

ClaudineClare · 25/01/2022 11:07

Will we still be allowed to post on MN about Partygate now there is a criminal investigation underway?

CryingAtTheDiscotheque · 25/01/2022 11:08

@longwayoff

PMQs tomorrow. "Er, can't answer that, as we are all aware, these matters are now the subject of a police investigation". Next please.
Yep
the80sweregreat · 25/01/2022 11:08

Rees mogg is bigging him up now.
Move along , it's all fine.
The Met will probably get him off though, I'd put money on it.

Rodedooda · 25/01/2022 11:10

I think the met investigation will be of benefit to the government - it will clear them of any criminality, therefore case closed, move on. Regardless of what Sue Grey's report says after the event.

Thoroughly depressing to think they'll getaway with it.

Florianus · 25/01/2022 11:12

No, I don't think you misheard. The BBC are continuing to report that the Cabinet Office said Ms Gray's own inquiry would continue.

These initial contradictory reports are not uncommon in these days of 24/7 news.

ClaudineClare · 25/01/2022 11:12

Or the Met will just issue a few fines and that will be the end of it.

I don't see why not. It is only if and when a court case commences that discussion is normally stopped. I doubt that there will be any court cases as those charged are most likely to be given FPNs rather than taken to court.
ClaudineClare · 25/01/2022 11:16

Publication of the report is definitely delayed @florianus, but Gray's investigation is continuing.

That's what has happened to all the thousands of others who have been fined. It is only if they don't pay the fine that matters go any further.
Florianus · 25/01/2022 11:20

@ClaudineClare

Publication of the report is definitely delayed *@florianus*, but Gray's investigation is continuing.
In that case it will probably be kicked down the road for many weeks, knowing how long the Met can take. I wonder if Cressida Dick was pressured into investigating by No.10?
CryingAtTheDiscotheque · 25/01/2022 11:21

Amazing really that a criminal investigation is seen as a win for the PM because we all assume it will be forgotten/govt will be let off... can we sink much lower as a country?

Blossomtoes · 25/01/2022 11:39

It’s up to all of us to make sure it isn’t forgotten. We need to keep the pressure up on our MP if they’re a Tory. Keep filling those inboxes.

the80sweregreat · 25/01/2022 11:43

IF D Cummings has anything else up his sleeve I just hope he lobs it soon.
Not sure what else he can have though ?
Maybe he is waiting to give it to the police ?
Yep, a few fines here and there and it'll all blow over I suppose which would suit the ones defending them on here because they can't see that any of this was WRONG
It's Unbelievable that people can shrug it off !
They obviously never had to watch someone die over FaceTime.. Listen to the nurse on lbc who is in tears / furious about this.
People are still fans of his though, I can't understand why ? The rule makers breaking the rules themselves because they could.

longwayoff · 25/01/2022 11:48

80s I'm pretty sure Cummings has got plenty with pics too. Bozo can't win unless he can persuade the security service that cummngs is endangering national security ie Boris's backside. Who knows?
