@JaniieJones

'10 people, 30 people - it is irrelevant in law. Indoor gatherings of more than 2 were illegal unless a lawful excuse existed.'

Except for work.

If he's had a party in his flat that is different because that isn't a workplace.

So what you are saying is that all those millions of children who missed out on birthday parties were actually allowed them as long as they went to a place of work to have them.

Did the Prime Minister or any other Ministers who appeared at the daily briefings make that clear at the time? I think I missed a few and it was probably said in one of those.

VikingOnTheFridge · 25/01/2022 10:21

Nobody is disputing that, although I have little doubt that Princess Nut Nuts can afford the fine (typically £100 for a party of 10, £300 for a party of 30)

I dunno, there seems to have been a fair bit of pleading poverty from that household!

jgw1 · 25/01/2022 10:22

So why were his wife and the interior designer there?

Because if they had of had the party in his flat then it would have been illegal, but moving it to the Cabinet room magically made it legal.

CryingAtTheDiscotheque · 25/01/2022 10:22

Now that the police are involved, will Sue Gray suspend her inquiry?

CryingAtTheDiscotheque · 25/01/2022 10:22

I expect a kind donor would have paid the FPN!

ClaudineClare · 25/01/2022 10:23

Oh, the Met has changed tack and are now going to investigate the No. 10 parties.

The timing is suspect, will this delay the publication of the Gray report?

@DuncinToffee

New development

NEW: Cressida Dick: “I can confirm the @metpoliceuk is now investigating a number of events that took place at downing st and Whitehall in last 2 years in relation to potential breaches of covid 19 regulations.”

A change of mind apparently triggered by the evidence No.10 police officers have provided to Sue Gray.
ClaudineClare · 25/01/2022 10:25

CryingAtTheDiscotheque cross post!

So now it's a police matter
..

Florianus · 25/01/2022 10:25

@CryingAtTheDiscotheque

Now that the police are involved, will Sue Gray suspend her inquiry?
An interesting question. Had it been a public enquiry, it would have to be suspended, but I doubt that would apply to a political investigation.
DuncinToffee · 25/01/2022 10:26

@jgw1

So why were his wife and the interior designer there?

Because if they had of had the party in his flat then it would have been illegal, but moving it to the Cabinet room magically made it legal.

But their attendance stopped it being work, so it became a party, which was illegal.....

Nobody told me

Peregrina · 25/01/2022 10:26

Oh FFS, do I really have to spell out for the nth time that saying we do not yet know something is not defending Johnson?

Why so touchy? I was in that post talking about Useless Eustace. Are you Eustace, or related to him?

CryingAtTheDiscotheque · 25/01/2022 10:28

From the SG terms of reference:

"As with all internal investigations, if during the course of the work any evidence emerges of behaviour that is potentially a criminal offence, the matter will be referred to the police and the Cabinet Office’s work may be paused."

"May" be paused. Hmm. I think it will be. Lets SG off the hook, and allows Johnson to kick everything into the long grass?

DuncinToffee · 25/01/2022 10:31

Wait for the Met becomes the new wait for Sue Gray

Peregrina · 25/01/2022 10:31

A change of mind apparently triggered by the evidence No.10 police officers have provided to Sue Gray.

Will those whistleblowing Police Officers find themselves frozen out of their jobs?

ClaudineClare · 25/01/2022 10:33

Sue Gray has said her investigation will continue. BBC saying the report will still come out this week, if I have understood correctly.

CryingAtTheDiscotheque · 25/01/2022 10:36

Cressida Dick said in the press conference that some of the gatherings didnt reach the threshold for investigation - could SG limit her report to those I wonder?

ClaudineClare · 25/01/2022 10:39

That would make sense, crying.

OP posts:
ClaudineClare · 25/01/2022 10:41

I wonder if certain posters are back at base, frantically working out their next line of defence?

Trilley · 25/01/2022 10:43

@Florianus

Flowertailbird: 30 people in a room with a birthday cake and a buffet and all singing a song is far more the definition of a party than it is work.

The number of people in the room is disputed. George Eustice claims that it was closer to 10 rather than 30.

Hopefully we should know the truth when Sue Gray's report is published.

Yet again, it doesn't matter whether it was a party. It was an indoor gathering which was not for work purposes, and was prohibited at the time. Why keep trying to deflect so pointlessly?
Florianus · 25/01/2022 10:43

Peregrina:
Why so touchy?

Because every time I point out that we don't know something, people like you ask "why are you defending Boris Johnson". It becomes very tedious, both for me and for other users, to keep repeating that pointing out we don't know something is not defending anyone. Indeed - I have been accused of "spamming" the thread by doing so.

Nobody denies that it was a prohibited at the time. Pointing out that we do not know whether it was 30 people or 10 is simply doing that - pointing out that we do not know something. See the reply above to Peregrina.

Roussette · 25/01/2022 10:47

Not with the same rabid hysteria. I'm sat with the telly on waiting for a delivery and GMB, Lorraine and now Jezza Vine leading on the eating a piece of birthday cake equals attending a party 'story'. It is pathetic

Well... it would be pathetic if you're a Johnson lover wouldn't it... Hmm

longwayoff · 25/01/2022 10:48

PMQs tomorrow. "Er, can't answer that, as we are all aware, these matters are now the subject of a police investigation". Next please.

Trilley · 25/01/2022 10:49

@JaniieJones, you obviously aren't as dense as you try to make out. You know perfectly well that the issue is not the party, but that the people who were making the rules at a time of national crisis were ignoring them - over and over again. There is nothing pathetic about focusing on that.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record but just in case anyone does get their 'news' from daytime telly..workplace eating and drinking was allowed, parties weren't allowed but eating cake isn't a party. We still haven't had any snaps/leaks from BJ's alleged party in his flat have we?

At the risk of sounding like yet another broken record, indoor gatherings were not allowed unless reasonably necessary for work. Even No. 10 is not seeking to deny that this was an indoor gathering or that it was necessary. Give it up.
