Aibu to want a "naice" property in Manchester?

mismigraije · 13/01/2022 18:10

Currently live in weybridge renting.
Dh originally from northern moor in wythenshawe.

We are looking to move to Manchester this year but my issue is.

I want a nice desirable area. Outstanding schools, leisure centres nearby. Something "Naice"Blush

Where as dh would be happy to move back to his part of the woods and try get the cheapest property available. He thinks it's "how you raise" the children that dictates how well they do,
Where as I'm more from the camp, that the environment also nurtures children and I believe schools etc matter. From researching wythenshawe, it just seems abit ehhh and some poor child is always being beaten up on the tram in this area.

Aibu to prioritise location? And which areas are desirable?

Unfortunately I don't think didsbury is in our budget but perhaps sale?

I used to work in Wythenshawe. I never thought it was that bad but of course working somewhere and living there are two very different things. It certainly has a bad rep. I wouldn't choose to live there.

earlydoors42 · 13/01/2022 18:28

Chorlton?

gobbynorthernbird · 13/01/2022 18:30

The bits of Sale you can afford will not be great.

Frazzled2207 · 13/01/2022 18:31

I wouldn’t want to raise a kid In wythenshawe.
Sale is worth looking at. As is Urmston.
Chorlton is as expensive as Didsbury.
Lots of Stockport is ok and affordable.

Angeldust747 · 13/01/2022 18:31

Try and get somewhere in Trafford which will get you into the catchment for the grammar schools. Unfortunately the jump from ex council estate to "naice" is massive so you'll have to choose the area quite carefully

Corrag · 13/01/2022 18:33

Will you be commuting for work? If so, where to?

CrackerGal · 13/01/2022 18:37

Flixton is nice.

Lwren · 13/01/2022 18:37

www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/118691000 recently added!

Right near some outstanding schools.
I don't know Manchester that well but my friends loved living in this area :)

While this is true Houses in trafford are More expensive than anywhere else for this reason.
Boobicoosg · 13/01/2022 18:41

Heaton Moor perhaps?

Angeldust747 · 13/01/2022 18:41

£280k for a 3 bed in Flixton?! In comparison you could easily get a 3 bed in wythenshawe for half that

howsoonisbedtime · 13/01/2022 18:41

you could try Cheadle or Gatley? Not from there but used to have family and friends in both places, seemed nice.

we're from Wythenshawe and used to work there. It's okay, but I can't really recommend it. plot spoiler: we had kids and GFTO.

Boombastic22 · 13/01/2022 18:41

How much are you paying in Weybridge Confused

howsoonisbedtime · 13/01/2022 18:42

*sorry gtfo. Confused

Sparkai · 13/01/2022 18:42

YANBU.

But is there an option to move in 2 stages? I think when kids are young you influence them much more, but as they get older it becomes harder. I don't know your financial situation, but if you bought something cheaper now, is it feasible to save like mad for a few years to then move somewhere more desirable in say 5 years?

nattynoonoo821 · 13/01/2022 18:45

I live stretford side of urmston (walking distance stretford postcode) and that's the rough price for ex council 3 bed semi in this area. You can get naice house but you will have to sacrifice the area I think. House prices south manchester have gone crazy.

Crunched · 13/01/2022 18:46

I would recommend Stockport. I think it may be a good investment.

HobnobsChoice · 13/01/2022 18:47

Wright Robinson, Burnage and Levenshulme are all outstanding OFSTEDwise and there's various leisure centres and parks etc around there. They are in budget but they aren't "naice".
Urmston and Stretford are on the up but you can probably just about get a 3 bed semi for a pinch under £300k. Sale at the same price is going to be on the border of Wythenshawe so won't necessarily get you a "naice area". You might find something in Cheadle which gives you a chance at Cheadle Hulme High School which is outstanding.

badgerread · 13/01/2022 18:47

Boombastic I was going to say that! Weybridge is REALLY expensive 😫

PupInAPram · 13/01/2022 18:48

@CrackerGal

Flixton is nice.
Thank you for using the word nice instead of naice. What a flipping relief.
actiongirl1978 · 13/01/2022 18:49

Look at Marple. I've spent time in Weybridge and Marple and similar - river in Weybridge, canals in Marple. Marple is very naice, fab schools, lovely countryside and 20 mins to Manchester on the train.

MangosteenSoda · 13/01/2022 18:51

I think Levenshulme is meant to be a fast improving area, but significantly cheaper than Didsbury and Chorlton which it’s trying to emulate according to people I know who have bought there (quite possibly deluding themselves though Grin).

gluenotsoup · 13/01/2022 18:52

I wouldn’t choose Wythenshawe , it’s just not “naice”. What exactly do you mean though? In all honesty Manchester is expensive for property, and I would think if you want a good area, outstanding schools and a nice 3plus bedroom house in that £280 won’t stretch far. Can you increase your budget?
