To ask how long you waited to have sex after baby?

Bells3032 · 10/01/2022 22:06

Baby is three weeks old and thanks to a combination of a fast labour and tiny baby there is very little damage down there (had one stitch). Is it weird that i am horny and raring to go. But I think it may be too soon physically plus need to get condoms (don't want another baby soon).

How long did you wait and how was it? Any regrets?

I felt the same after DS, but I happily waited and we then went on to have DD.

MintyGreenDream · 11/01/2022 15:53

Orgasms not organising 😄

irene9 · 11/01/2022 15:57

Wow, three days after a birth surely the cervix would still be half open....🤔

Unmute · 11/01/2022 16:02

17 years so far. I'm not sure I'd remember how to do it.

Anewdress · 11/01/2022 16:05

2 weeks for me! And I wanted to earlier than that! I had a C section and was sore around the scar area and had vaginal bleeding for weeks after. However, I was really horny! My partner was great though, he never asked at all and it was me who convinced him. He knew I was still sore, so we just took it slowly and gently.

Lennon80 · 11/01/2022 16:20

I thought they tell you to wait six weeks? Due to infection risk. Can’t believe anyone would even want to - was the last thing on my mind!

tapeandglue · 11/01/2022 16:28

@Mufasa1118

I'm in Ireland. Of course the term Irish twins is an offensive.

It is a term used for children born close together, because fifty years ago Irish women were forbidden by the Catholic church to use any contraception, and many of these women were raped by their husbands, so they had many children born close together

My Irish mother has told me about her mother (my gran). She told me that my gran would just be home from hospital after giving birth, and her husband would rape her, making her pregnant again. Contraception was totally banned in Ireland at that time.

That is is why "Irish twins" is offensive

I'd never heard of that term before, let alone what it was supposed to mean. I'm sorry to hear about your gran's situation, I can't imagine how tough that must have been.

Thank you for the education.

SmellyOldOwls · 11/01/2022 16:30

While we are on the subject of Irish twins, 'Throwing a paddy' is also really offensive and you see it all the time on here.

Anyway it was a few weeks for us OP, I bled for quite a long time after my section.

ZoeTheThornyDevil · 11/01/2022 16:40

For future reference, the NHS advice about sex after birth (which has a lot of advice on how to be comfortable, etc) says there are no rules about when you can have sex after a birth. Sex isn't even mentioned as a risk factor in most information about postpartum infections that I could find: the birth itself is a way bigger factor.

RaginaPhalange · 11/01/2022 16:55

About 6 months. Horrendous first birth. And maybe 6 weeks after second.

CrimbleCrumble1 · 11/01/2022 17:31

Three weeks, very easy births, no complications.

sunnybunnyy · 11/01/2022 18:03

6.5 weeks with first- i only had one stitch and honestly it was too soon

7.5 weeks with second, i mean again I could have waited to 12/13 weeks as it only became enjoyable then

romany4 · 11/01/2022 18:06

3 -4 months with both my children.
2nd degree tear and breastfeeding each time.
DH was very patient

TheOriginalEmu · 11/01/2022 18:10

Well she was born on September 1st 2002 and due date for number 2 was June 8th 2003. Baby two came 3 weeks early on May 18th.

HandScreen · 11/01/2022 18:14

3 weeks, but I had it easy with elective c-sections, so vag was unaffected!

JumperooSue · 11/01/2022 18:59

I can’t understand how people can consider others answering a question honestly as ‘boasting’. I just can’t grasp what is boastful about it and I’m sure someone else said it was disgusting that some people hadn’t wanted long.

I was advised that I was very fertile post birth and to be cautious if we did have sex, I don’t personally find the thought of two consenting adults having sex, whatever the situation ‘disgusting’.

Sceptre86 · 11/01/2022 19:43

After baby no.1 at 6 months and got pregnant with no.2. After I had no.2 a month and after no. 3 two weeks.

GrolliffetheDragon · 11/01/2022 20:00

It was a few months at least and took a few attempts. Third degree year and a lot of stitches everywhere though.

FridaRose · 12/01/2022 00:19

Why are people having a go at others for having sex within days? I'm personally glad to read this - I'm pregnant currently and imagined it would be months before I have sex after birth, as that's what I've always heard.

I'm glad now that if I want sex after two weeks I can go for it and not feel like an unusual freak. We need to normalise whatever women want to do (as long as it legal!)

@WheelieBinPrincess you in particular seem to be triggered? Even commented UGH when a poster said her husband was counting down the days (when he had to wait 6 weeks to have sex with his wife). What's UGH about wanting to make love to your wife after a long break? I'd be counting the days too if my husband couldn't have sex for 6 weeks. I love him and our intimacy, and my body craves sex weekly. There is nothing UGH about our feelings.

Catra · 12/01/2022 00:28

We tried after about 3 weeks but it was too painful even though I didn't tear.

It was about 10 weeks until things were back to normal.

Lucia23 · 12/01/2022 00:58

Yes thank you @Mufasa1118. It is a shame to see so much ignorance on display here.

While it's true that other countries had a tradition of having large families, there was a particular anti Irish sentiment for a period in the UK and the US towards poor Irish immigrants families who could not access birth control.

I'm Irish, and if you are telling me it is just a laugh then I can laugh about many things but I don't laugh at bigotry. My great gran died in childbirth after having several children and was bullied for being an immigrant. So was my grandfather and his brothers.

SandyClaws6 · 12/01/2022 11:25

6 weeks after EMCS, Im sure it would have been fine before that but I was extra cautious.

piney07 · 12/01/2022 11:31

I don’t even have sex if I’m bloated I can’t imagine having sex 5 days after giving birth! Suddenly feeling like I have an extremely low libido

PurchaseInvoices · 12/01/2022 11:38

@FridaRose Agree with you completely. Good luck with the birth and I hope you are gagging for it after a few weeks! X

Branleuse · 12/01/2022 13:06

the term irish twins isnt bigotry fgs. Stereotypes arent bigotry. Plenty of offensive and bigoted attitudes towards the irish even in my own lifetime. My grandmother also had an enormous catholic family and likely would have died if the doctor hadnt insisted on sterilising her, and then the church excommunicated them for it. Im sure lots of us with Irish family will have awful stories to tell, but Irish twins is not used in either a mocking way or an insulting way or as a slur, and usually used in a neutral way or even as an endearment, so whilst its playing on stereotypes, its hardly massively offensive unless you really are looking for offence where none was intended. Its one thing to not like a term, but its another to try and ban it or accuse people of being actual bigots. Obviously everyone has their own things they hate and noone can tell you that you arent personally offended by something that you are, for whatever reason, but the list of innocuous things that apparently now make someone a bigot, is so huge that I dont even know how people can keep up. Especially as its different for everyone
