to think this vinted seller was rude?

I saw a bag on Vinted and made an offer on it. The seller declined the offer. I messaged the seller 'What price would you accept for the bag?'. She replied saying 'If you don't say hello, I will not sell it to you :)'. Then she blocked me from buying the item. AIBU to think she was rude?

She's probably fed up.

I'm sure you're not one of them, but the number of people on marketplace who can't even ask a simple question without coming across as rude and abrupt is mind boggling.

Available?

15?

Mine

I need delivery etc...

5keletor · 08/01/2022 22:39

I'm not fussy about manners, but I wouldn't message someone without starting with "hi", at least. It won't have helped if you offered a lot lower than what she was asking either, not saying you did, but I have less patience when someone offers way under the price I've listed.

Lockheart · 08/01/2022 22:41

Why didn't you start your message with a 'Hi' or 'Hello'?

That's writing to someone 101.

StanleyGreen · 08/01/2022 22:49

One of you was rude. Hint - it wasn't her.

Idontevenknow · 08/01/2022 22:50

I would've said started by saying hello to be honest.

However I don't care how rude the person is if they pay the amount I want , so I think the seller has overreacted.

Sux2Buthen · 08/01/2022 22:56

God no, the less chat the better

Nope.....
Roseyleaf · 08/01/2022 22:59

When you send your first offer message, the Vinted app automatically puts " Hi!" at the start.

Seems a bit picky for them to be labouring the point about saying hello if you sent the offer that way. But hey, it's their item... 🤷‍♂️

StoneofDestiny · 08/01/2022 23:03

Why would you have to say hello? Bizarre.
It's just a automatic procedure of payment or offer - dialogue isn't necessary at all.

YesIHaveAntOrDec · 08/01/2022 23:04

Weird. She must not want to part with her items

SquirrelG · 08/01/2022 23:09

Yes, she was rude. I've been buying and selling online for many years, I've never said Hello when asking a question, and I don't believe anyone ever has said it to me. I can't stand sellers like that - and I wouldn't be buying anything they had for sale. She obviously doesn't really want the sale.

AsYouWishButtercup · 08/01/2022 23:11

It’s a bit rude.

I refused to give someone my (free) coffee table the other day because I just got a message of ‘send me your address’ Hmm

WomanStanleyWoman · 08/01/2022 23:13

I honestly wouldn’t notice if someone messaging me on Vinted had said hello or not. She sounds like she’d be a bit of a pain to deal with, so maybe you’re better off not buying from her.

On the other hand, at least she bothered to decline the offer, which is more than two of the sellers I’ve messaged recently have bothered to do.

Butchyrestingface · 08/01/2022 23:14

I've been giving stuff away for years on FB Marketplace and Freecycle. I rarely if ever get a message that starts with 'hello' (or any greeting for that matter) - and that's when I'm giving stuff away free of charge.

If I took your seller's approach, I'd probably never have shifted a thing.

Butchyrestingface · 08/01/2022 23:18

I'd have ignored that 'enquiry' too.

I've only ever listed things I wanted to give away for free. Memorable responses include:

  • "I don't want the item you're advertising, how much is the TV in the background of the photo?"
  • "Do you arrange delivery?"
  • "What else have you got for me?"
  • (when I listed 3 items) "Are you doing a house clearance then? I'll take everything."

I offered 1 euro less than the item price

Me too. You want to sell the bag not be her friend
WindyState · 09/01/2022 10:57

If you offered 1 euro under the asking price (seriously?) then surely it's pretty obvious what the seller was expecting.

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 09/01/2022 11:02

1 Euro?

FFS! You sound like a nut. One of those difficult buyers who just twists and turns and makes all sorts of stupid little difficulties.

FluffyBooBoo · 09/01/2022 11:06

Haha, you offered one euro less? Seriously?

She probably refused you because she was confused by that (it's really odd) and thought you weren't a genuine buyer.

Butchyrestingface · 09/01/2022 11:07

I offered 1 euro less than the item price

Why did you do that? Confused

TabithaTittlemouse · 09/01/2022 11:09

I sell on vinted and honestly couldn’t tell you if people say hello or not before asking a question.
Sometimes you notice the over friendly responses, ‘anything for you babe’ and I do try to be friendly by saying hello, please, thank you etc.
It’s probably for the best that she’s blocked you tbh.

furbabymama87 · 09/01/2022 11:09

I've had sellers who are a bit abrupt in their messages and don't say hi. I do think it is a bit rude but if I'm selling something and I get the money for it, that's all I'm bothered about. Their lack of manners is irrelevant to me, it's not like I'm vetting them for friendship. It's a business transaction.

AreSomeGoldfishJustDicks · 09/01/2022 11:10

I sell on Vinted and this is how it works. Items are normally sold for a couple of quid.
Sellers will say "offers welcome".
Offers are normally 1 or 2 quid under the asking price, that's just how it works.
Also you press a button and put in your offer which automatically sends a message to the seller saying "Hi! Would you sell this for £4" for example.

You were not rude, she sounds strange.

furbabymama87 · 09/01/2022 11:10

But then maybe she's had loads of people trying to get the item for cheaper and was fed up.
