Not letting my 17yo go out for NYE?

He wants to go to his mates. But we don't drive so can't pick him up.

He said he will be home about 1am. But I don't want him out at 1am.

I doubt there will be taxis available and he's definitely not walking home.

He's 17 though (just turned days ago)

AIBU to not let him?

Ignore the perfect parents nasty posters. DD went to a party last night and thoroughly enjoyed herself. It was a small party - about 10 people, and they just spent time chatting and being sociable. She hates large groups as well and loathes smoking. She did have a drink or two but wasn't drunk.

@Icelandiaa

He's actually very confident in himself. He's extremely funny and comfortable with his friends group and at college. That's the feedback we get from teachers.

He just doesn't like large groups of strangers and is very against drinking /smoking.

He went and saw his mates for a few hours and decided that was enough. I don't see how that is a negative thing or a bad reflection of my parenting Confused

It isn't.

You sound like a great mum and he sounds like a great kid.

There are always arseholes who get a kick out of trying to decimate someone on the internet. It's straight up old-fashioned bullying. I wouldn't waste my energy giving them oxygen.

He sounds lovely OP, knows his own mind.

Also let’s not forget that today’s 17 year olds are probably a bit more immature than previously due to covid and not being able to gradually do the usual teen things at 15/16

By which I mean you’re bound to worry more!

Ps don't come here for parenting advise.
