To go food shopping while waiting on PCR

Found out we've been in contact with somebody (close contact, inside, all day, unavoidable sittuation) who has tested positive. Had all the tell tale symptoms of covid so await results of PCR.

I absolutely think I ABU, but I am stressing out so much. There's little food in the house, no delivery slots as Christmas. We don't live in a big city so no deliveroo etc and no family nearby.

What's the alternative? Can't let my DD (1) starve!

Huh? You can if you don’t have symptoms and did a pcr as a close contact?

Luhou · 20/12/2021 10:17

We do have symptoms

Oh sorry I miss read! Ummm tricky!

ChangeChingyChange · 20/12/2021 10:17

YANBU In your dilemma however there must be somebody you can ask. Doesn't need to be family. Could be a work colleague, friend, neighbour, vague acquaintance?? Someone off social media that you met once?! Can't believe you live somewhere where there is not a single person you can ask. Otherwise reach out to local shops and see if they could do an informal shop and drop I.e the local corner shop.

changingstages · 20/12/2021 10:18

do you mean you've got symptoms? You really can't go out if you do. It's so hard though. Do you have a Facebook group for your local area? I've helped people who were stuck before through that and other people do too. Any friends nearby who might be able to stick some things on their own food order and drop it by for you, or pick up essentials?

In the depths of lockdown when it was soooo hard to get a shopping slot I got lucky a few times with Iceland, they seemed to release slots more often. We don't get Amazon delivery of groceries or anything here but a local shop does do deliveries so maybe even just asking on FB if anyone knows somewhere that does deliver would either get you the names of a shop that might, or an offer of help from someone. I would definitely help you out and I am sure lots of others would too!

ChangeChingyChange · 20/12/2021 10:18

If you have symptoms do not go to the shops.

CaptaNoctem · 20/12/2021 10:18

If your PCR comes back positive you also get links to various volunteer groups who will help in this situation.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 20/12/2021 10:18

I would also call a local shop and explain your situation

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 20/12/2021 10:18

I'd put a message on a local Facebook group explaining your situation and asking if anyone has a teenager on school holidays that would like to earn some money and pick you some stuff up from the shops, you can paypal or transfer them the money

Nearlytheretrees · 20/12/2021 10:19

You have symptoms, have been in close contact and want to go out? Yes good idea ruin Christmas for others and out people at risk.
Put a plea on social media, call a local taxi firm/corner shop and see if they will do a good delivery

SittingontheSidelines · 20/12/2021 10:19

Is there any organised help locally? Try your local Facebook pages.

madisonbridges · 20/12/2021 10:19

Have you tried the council to see if voluntary groups are still running?

clpsmum · 20/12/2021 10:20

You know you are being very unreasonable so why ask. Why would you even think about spreading it to more people. Put a message on Facebook and send a round robin text to friends and family and if that fails contact your local authority who will help

Luhou · 20/12/2021 10:20

I think I will have to reach out to a friend, just feel like a complete burden this close to Christmas. Most of my friends are busy working or like us have small children and worried about going to supermarkets because of the rise in cases.

Was told this morning PCR results likely to take at least a few days as such a rise in cases

Just use click and collect or deliveroo. Don't be wandering up and down isles!

StruggleStreet · 20/12/2021 10:21

You’ve been in close contact with a positive case and now have symptoms? It sounds fairly likely that you do have it so YWBU to go to the shops. Is there really no alternative? Ask a neighbour, find a local support group on Facebook, takeaways? Sorry OP, it’s a horrible situation to be in but I think you know you shouldn’t be going out.

Dithercats · 20/12/2021 10:21

Phone your local Asda/Tesco and explain, and ask them to release a priority slot to you x

SilverHairedCat · 20/12/2021 10:21

Do you have a Spar shop anywhere nearby? Have a look to see if it's on the Snappy Shopper app - it's been a godsend for us when we've been waiting for PCR results.

Also, Amazon - have a look and see if Morrisons delivery via Amazon in your area. They do in my semi rural location in Cornwall (very surprisingly!).

LynetteScavo · 20/12/2021 10:21

Or even aisles.

Sproutsandcheese · 20/12/2021 10:21

Yabu as you have symptoms.
You need to ring up local shops, taxi firms, look on social media for any delivery type people, put a post out asking if someone can help you, buy food on amazon for next day delivery etc but not go to the shops.

namechange30455 · 20/12/2021 10:22

Have you tried all the supermarkets? Iceland had some slots for tomorrow when I checked earlier. Asda did have a couple as well actually but not great availability.

Click and collect and get a taxi driver to collect it and drop off?

Tal45 · 20/12/2021 10:22

One of you must have a friend you could phone and ask to pick some food up for you in an emergency surely? You definitely can't go to the shops with symptoms when you're waiting on results.

Luhou · 20/12/2021 10:23

I suppose I am more looking for ideas, support and suggestions on how to manage in a tricky sittuation. Maybe I should re title but posting for traffic.

WhatHaveIFound · 20/12/2021 10:23

Can you get a Morrisons delivery via Amazon in your area? Or ask a friend to pick food up for you? You really shouldn't be going out since you have symptoms.

Thesearmsofmine · 20/12/2021 10:23

There will be help in your local area for people who are isolating. Ask on your local Facebook group or speak to the council.
