To go food shopping while waiting on PCR

Found out we've been in contact with somebody (close contact, inside, all day, unavoidable sittuation) who has tested positive. Had all the tell tale symptoms of covid so await results of PCR.

I absolutely think I ABU, but I am stressing out so much. There's little food in the house, no delivery slots as Christmas. We don't live in a big city so no deliveroo etc and no family nearby.

What's the alternative? Can't let my DD (1) starve!

Just realised you've got it sorted. That's one worry off your list!

Autumndays123 · 20/12/2021 11:54

@Luhou

I think I will have to reach out to a friend, just feel like a complete burden this close to Christmas. Most of my friends are busy working or like us have small children and worried about going to supermarkets because of the rise in cases.

Was told this morning PCR results likely to take at least a few days as such a rise in cases

Have you thought maybe your friends are worried about going to supermarkets because people such as yourself are pottering off to Tesco the week of Christmas with symptoms of COVID?
Lucillesbigsister · 20/12/2021 11:57

Sign up to Amazon prime and get same day food delivery.

JudesBiggestFan · 20/12/2021 11:57

Just go. In the circumstances I don't see you have much choice! Use self scan, wear a mask, be as sensible as you can...I observed all rules when I had covid but I have a husband and close family, so not especially difficult.

Lucillesbigsister · 20/12/2021 11:57

That’ll teach me to read the thread!

antisocialsocialclub · 20/12/2021 11:59

@Luhou

We do have symptoms
Sorry, no then.
Shiningpath · 20/12/2021 12:01

Glad you’ve got it sorted with Iceland, but seriously how could you have been thinking of going shopping with symptoms and a confirmed close contact because you didn’t want to burden friends just because they have jobs and kids? Do the people in the supermarket not have jobs and kids?

Star81 · 20/12/2021 12:01

Have you checked click and collect slots ? Loads near us. Therefore friend only has to drive by to pick up rather than actually spend time shopping for you ?

JuergenSchwarzwald · 20/12/2021 12:07

Glad you got it sorted OP and ignore all the judgmental people on here. If someone had hungry kids they'd absolutely go out to get food, symptoms or not. Not everyone has an army of friends and family locally who can help.

If it happened to us, I think we currently could live on chocolate for a few days :)

MajorCarolDanvers · 20/12/2021 12:10

OP glad you got sorted with Iceland.

My area is like yours - no Uber, deliveroo or Amazon fresh. If I couldn't get a slot at a supermarket I'd have to live on Chinese takeaways as that is the only thing that delivers where I live.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 20/12/2021 12:10

Speaking as a worker in a supermarket; no you absolutely cannot pop in. We face people who are positive popping in all day. Do you not realise the risk you are putting people under?

MajorCarolDanvers · 20/12/2021 12:12

WHY don't you have food for a week in your house in case of isolation?

🙈😂

Kirst26 · 20/12/2021 12:17

My local iceland has delivery slots available, not the best but they will deliver

Luhou · 20/12/2021 12:24

I completely understand the risks of going to the supermarket with covid. I therefore took to Mumsnet for suggestions on how to overcome this issue. It's now been resolved thanks to helpful mumsnetters.

Unfortunately not everybody lives in the perfectly world some of these negative responses are coming from. It's super tough being a parent in lock down, and we're now facing a christmas alone at home with frozen pizzas most likely! Please be kind!

If you have symptoms stay at home. It's completely unacceptable to go out to a crowded place like a supermarket when you're at high risk of passing covid onto other people.
anniegun · 20/12/2021 12:30

Ask a friend to go for you

MrsSugar · 20/12/2021 12:30

No !!! Do not go to the shops. Can you ask a neighbour to pick u up some things at the shops? Or a friend ? Or put a message on a local fb page ? Do you have any work colleagues that could help you out ?

MrsJBaptiste · 20/12/2021 12:40

@Staryflight445

My dd tested positive on Friday and to secure us getting food over Xmas I’ve had to spend £90 on shopping and £10 on a delivery slot. Thankfully I managed to book a delivery shop the day after her symptoms started so we have plenty of food and guaranteed Xmas dinner incase me and dh end up testing positive too.

I think it’s terrible supermarkets didn’t prepare for this.
There wasn’t many slots left when I booked mine, I feel for others that are going through this atm.

But you can still go out and about even if your daughter is positive, can't you? Which I know seems daft but I thought they were the rules - at the moment...?
KaycePollard · 20/12/2021 12:43

There are several community services which will deliver for you.

DO NOT go out with COVID symptoms. I can't believe you're even considering it.

Anjo2011 · 20/12/2021 12:45

Of course you should stay home until it’s confirmed. If we all just popped to the shops whilst waiting for our result we would be in bigger shit than we already are.

Aullu · 20/12/2021 12:46

Cancel the cheque!
OP has said she has an Iceland slot now.

Flixon · 20/12/2021 12:46

for Gods sake. this is why we are in SO much mess....

of course you cant go out whilst waiting fr a PCR result

get a friend to collect you some stuff, get it delivered ....

ComDummings · 20/12/2021 12:47

If you need food you need food 🤷🏻‍♀️

PickAChew · 20/12/2021 12:51

Most of us here are parents, too. Glad you've got some shopping organised, though.

CharityDingle · 20/12/2021 12:56

Cancel the cheque, OP...

Glad you got sorted, and hopefully you will all be feeling better soon.
