To go food shopping while waiting on PCR

Found out we've been in contact with somebody (close contact, inside, all day, unavoidable sittuation) who has tested positive. Had all the tell tale symptoms of covid so await results of PCR.

I absolutely think I ABU, but I am stressing out so much. There's little food in the house, no delivery slots as Christmas. We don't live in a big city so no deliveroo etc and no family nearby.

What's the alternative? Can't let my DD (1) starve!

You have symptoms so its simple. Don't anyone else's Christmas up by passing it on!

If you can't find a family member or friend to help with some shopping, and can't get a delivery slot (try contacting the supermarket direct) then maybe a voluntary group might be able to help. No idea where you are but in the UK we have the Royal Voluntary Service for example.

@Luhou

Thanks everyone.

Slot just appeared with Iceland. Problem solved!

I think when considering another lockdown it's sittuations like this that need to be considered. It's how overwhelmed are services are whether it be the NHS or supermarkets!

It has been considered. That’s why there are heaps of local organisations everywhere which are available in this situation. And once again, if lockdown is necessary then not doing so will hit all those local services more. Nearly 2 years on in a global pandemic, if you have the money to do so, then not havjng a stockpile in case of covid is quite shortsighted.

And where the hell doesn’t Amazon deliver to?

nannykatherine · 21/12/2021 19:06

Can a friend pick up shopping ?

Chasingaftermidnight · 21/12/2021 19:21

Such a tricky situation. Glad your PCRs came back negative.

Luhou · 21/12/2021 19:28

@CheshireKitten123 I think you need to get of your high horse.

I clearly am not going to let my 1 year old starve. Just because I don't live on the breadline doesn't make me aware of all the support services avaliable for this kind of sittuation?

I am so pleased your kitchen is full of healthy beans to last you a month. Give yourself a chocolate fucking mouse for good planning.

Not all of their services are universally available.

Shieldmaiden01 · 21/12/2021 19:53

CANCEL THE CHEQUE!
Can't believe people are still posting -the same- suggestions when OP said yesterday that the problem is now solved.

Tigger1895 · 21/12/2021 20:00

You must know someone who could shop for you. I don’t live close to my family but have driven over an hour to deliver necessary supplies in this situation.
You are symptomatic and in all honesty it would be the wrong thing to do

dragonflygirl1 · 21/12/2021 20:34

I don't have covid-19 but was in close contact and tried to get everything delivered in case my results were positive. I wasn't having any luck, until I went on Amazon to order something else. Ended up being able to do a Morrisons order with free same day delivery with Prime! I was so relieved! 😆

No need to be abusive because you can't organise yourself in face of pandemic.

You have a 1 year old in the house so just get a grip and start being a responsible parent.

You don't need 'support services' - you need a phone and the ability to 'phone a taxi.

saoirse31 · 21/12/2021 20:47

Well, guess your attitude, if it's the norm, goes towards explaining the massive increase in cases in uk

Superstar22 · 21/12/2021 21:26

This is not a tricky situation. It is very clear. No you can’t go shopping. Everyone should have a couple of days good in to make do knowing what we are walking head into. You’ll have to ask a neighbour and not expect a full on Christmas shop. It’s really tough and I’m really sorry for you but you do not have the option of going to a shop

nicegirl73 · 21/12/2021 21:28

People are unreasonable... Shopping is very clearly one of the exceptions where you can go out, positive or not, there are many others, And its not like you're gonna be coughing on people and in the end this will most likely keep going round and round

pinkpantherpink · 21/12/2021 21:38

I don' t think anyone will feel put upon if asked to help right now. It might be as simple as initially bringing stuff from their house to bide you over. You have a small baby after all

No, it really isn’t. Going out shopping with Covid is selfish, irresponsible and shameful!
Lollipop999 · 21/12/2021 22:01

Going shopping is apparently one of the exceptions but it probably doesn’t mean a huge food shop, just grabbing a few essentials if you have no other option

Suipigz · 22/12/2021 11:27

If anyone else finds themselves in the same position as OP, no family, friends or neighbours to help out the GoodSam app is still up and running with volunteers who have registered ( ?and been vetted?) and are willing to help.

THEDEACON · 22/12/2021 11:39

Are you effin insane or just homicidal!

Flatwhitetostayin · 22/12/2021 15:04

Am glad you managed to get a slot. I have been totally following the rules as we live in a clinically vulnerable household, but I would have panicked like you and it would definitely have crossed my mind. Hope you are all ok and manage to have a lovely Christmas even if you
end up isolating. X

Touchmybum · 01/01/2022 03:35

I actually am shocked (although after the last couple of years, I probably shouldn't be!!) - how can you be so selfish as to even consider going to do your own shopping? There's a load of options, wherever you are!!!

UndertheCedartree · 01/01/2022 04:02

There are NHS volunteers that can help in these situations.
