To go food shopping while waiting on PCR

Found out we've been in contact with somebody (close contact, inside, all day, unavoidable sittuation) who has tested positive. Had all the tell tale symptoms of covid so await results of PCR.

I absolutely think I ABU, but I am stressing out so much. There's little food in the house, no delivery slots as Christmas. We don't live in a big city so no deliveroo etc and no family nearby.

What's the alternative? Can't let my DD (1) starve!

How far are family? Whilst not nearby you are in a bind and I would expect family to step up off you've no one to ask, I certainly would. Obviously different if your are NC worth your family but you didn't give that impression.

Your area will have a local volunteers group who should be able to either help or signpost you to help. Try local indépendant grocers too, some are doing deliveries, some click and collect so you then get a taxi or beg a favour to pick it up.

Even if the PCR is negative the fact you have symptoms and are a closer contact means you need to lie low anyway

girlmom21 · 20/12/2021 10:23

Try your council. They might still be offering support for those who need it when they're isolating.

MadeOfStarStuff · 20/12/2021 10:24

YABVU

You need to ask a friend or neighbour to help, not go out spreading covid to everyone else. It’s better to be a bit of a burden on one or two friends than to make people ill by giving them covid, especially over Christmas.

Luhou · 20/12/2021 10:24

No click and collect slots and deliveroo don't deliver to our address

Could you not order a click and collect and get a friend to pick it up rather than sending them into the supermarket?

Rajono · 20/12/2021 10:25

If you have amazon prime, you can get Morrisons groceries delivered same day

itsstillgood · 20/12/2021 10:25

There must be someone who can go and get a few bits. Friend, neighbour, local shops, local voluntary groups, I'd like to think most people would be willing to help.
Have you tried Amazon, Iceland, some of the smaller outfits might have slots.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 20/12/2021 10:25

Please do phone your friend! I would help out even a faint acquaintance in this case.

Please don't go yourself as you are risking every single person you meets Christmas too, its not fair on them!

ChimChimeny · 20/12/2021 10:25

Was told this morning PCR results likely to take at least a few days as such a rise in cases

This was our experience, DH tested Friday 9am, results yesterday midday.

I'm still working & busy but if someone I knew needed food I'd definitely help. I can't be the only one. Our local neighbourhood watch group would definitely organise something, do you have anything like that on Facebook?

TulipsGarden · 20/12/2021 10:25

I guess it depends where you live, but Deliveroo has local convenience stores on it in my area - would be enough to get you through the next few days.

Otherwise if you have local friends I'm sure someone would do a shop for you. You really can't go shopping when you almost certainly have Covid.

Ski4130 · 20/12/2021 10:25

Find your local area FB group and ask for help on there - lots of people do it on ours, and people are happy to help out with food deliveries etc. You can't go out if you have symptoms.

LittleRoundRobin · 20/12/2021 10:26

Are you serious?! Hmm Obviously not!

APurpleSquirrel · 20/12/2021 10:26

Do you have any greengrocers, butchers or farm shops locally who might deliver? Or try FB - we have a local community FB group set up during the pandemic to help people isolating.

RebeccaCloud9 · 20/12/2021 10:26

I think you'd be surprised about how friends would react - I think most good people would be happy to help and would actually enjoy feeling useful to a friend in need, rather than you being a burden.

Singinghollybob · 20/12/2021 10:26

Check Facebook for local groups that may offer help
Call your council and ask if they're aware if any help groups
Ask Facebook friends for help
Try Amazon fresh for home delivery

DreamerSeven · 20/12/2021 10:26

Try Iceland, they do next day delivery on my area and can order fresh as well as frozen.

APurpleSquirrel · 20/12/2021 10:27

Oh or a milkman? We have Milk & More & whilst pricey they do deliver fruit, veg, meat & bread etc.

namechange30455 · 20/12/2021 10:27

@Luhou

No click and collect slots and deliveroo don't deliver to our address
Have you checked all the supermarkets and not just the one you normally use? I do struggle slightly to believe there are none at all in your area given the choice I had when I booked ours this morning!
LefttoherownDevizes · 20/12/2021 10:27

Also do you have any reasonable sized Churches/mosques etc near you. Ours has a volunteers group helping get food/medicine etc for people isolating. Advertised on social media page

FangsForTheMemory · 20/12/2021 10:27

I agree with the person who said post on your local Facebook group. Local groups have been brilliant in supporting people throughout the pandemic.

PreacherTeacher · 20/12/2021 10:28

If you are anywhere near Canterbury I can collect a click and collect?

Boogaloony · 20/12/2021 10:30

Amazon prime and Amazon fresh both have same and next day delivery slots. You even get £10-15 off your first spend. Just sign up for a free month of prime. I did this yesterday, ordered my food and paid and it's coming later. I've accepted best substitutions so I'm hoping I'll get the majority of it. Then will ask my ex to pick up the few remaining things I need.

TikTokBitches · 20/12/2021 10:31

Do you have Amazon prime or could you sign up for it (£7.99 per month). You can order shopping on there for same day delivery either through Morrisons or Amazon fresh.

Another option, if you have a sainsburys near by, see if you can order in the chop chop app.

Iceland also offer same day delivery of ordered before 2pm.

Boogaloony · 20/12/2021 10:31

Also some aldis do couch and collect now, with checking?

girlmom21 · 20/12/2021 10:32

That's a good point. Where are you? Can we help?
