To have opened the door

Went to a restaurant this eve, was busier than I expected and all tables were randomly put together to form 2 king table so we were sat next to total strangers… wasn’t expecting that. So I opened up the door near us to get some fresh air in, checked with waitress they agreed. A lady went and closed it, so I opened it again and then she closed it again… so I opened it!

Mamamamasaurus · 19/12/2021 20:30

AYBU about what?

jc12689 · 19/12/2021 20:30

It's freezing out.

Ahblahblablahumbug · 19/12/2021 20:31

I'd have found another restaurant. Why did they arrange the tables like that?!

Santahatesbraisedcabbage · 19/12/2021 20:31

Surely if you are that bothered about Covid you would get take away and stay home?

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 19/12/2021 20:32

@Mamamamasaurus

To have opened a door.

You should have left the restaurant if you were unhappy with the seating. Those who didn't mind the seating are entitled to eat without sitting in a freezing draught.

shouldistop · 19/12/2021 20:33

It was probably cold and / or smoke drifting in. I wouldn't want a door open next to me in the winter while I'm out for dinner.

ShirleyPhallus · 19/12/2021 20:33

It’s 4 degrees outside, I’d have been cross to be sitting next to an open door!

Ilikewinter · 19/12/2021 20:33

I wouldnt have eaten at the restaurant, who wants to sit next to strangers these days!

Vapeyvapevape · 19/12/2021 20:34

Yanbu to open the door just the same as the woman was not being unreasonable to close it.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 19/12/2021 20:36

@DartmoorChef

We had already ordered our food!

It was very bizarre how the tables were laid out.. like it was a wedding or something.

If the member of staff thought it was OK then they should have opened it.
However, I hate being in a restaurant in this weather with the door open.

WorraLiberty · 19/12/2021 20:37

I think I would've cancelled my dessert and ordered popcorn.

So who won the battle of the doors?

wanttomarryamillionaire · 19/12/2021 20:37

It was very rude to presume that others didn't mind the cold draught! You should have cancelled your order and left or maybe not ordered at all if you were uncomfortable with the seating arrangements.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 19/12/2021 20:39

@wanttomarryamillionaire

Before we ordered we asked the waitress, she said yes good idea, so we ordered the food!

Svara · 19/12/2021 20:39

You should have dined at a restaurant with outside seating if you wanted ventilation, it's freezing out!

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 19/12/2021 20:40

@WorraLiberty

Pretty sure I was victorious

OP posts:
DartmoorChef · 19/12/2021 20:40

So you pre ordered your food prior to seeing the seating?

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 19/12/2021 20:41

@DartmoorChef

No we saw out seating; I asked the waitress about the door, she said yes, sat down and ordered… then lady shut door

OP posts:
PrincessNutella · 19/12/2021 20:42

Clearly you didn't ask people seated near you if they minded if you opened the door, or that lady would not have shut it. That's pretty rude.

Svara · 19/12/2021 20:42

Other people would have ordered thinking they would be in a comfortable environment, opening the door changes that. What should they have done?

Sparklingbrook · 19/12/2021 20:43

I need a diagram I think as I don't know what a king table is. But YABU to decide that the whole restaurant want the door open. A window possibly but a door when it's about 4 degrees?

Icebreaker99 · 19/12/2021 20:44

It was very rude to presume that others didn't mind the cold draught!

You shouldn't have eaten there is the first place if you worried, opening up a door won't stop you being infected or passing it on to others, you just made the meal less enjoyable for the other woman and her party.

DartmoorChef · 19/12/2021 20:44

I'm sorry but I still think it was rude to assume your fellow diners would be OK with sitting in a draught. I know I wouldn't want to.

I also think that if you are seated right next to someone who has covid an open door is unlikely to make any difference
