To have opened the door

Went to a restaurant this eve, was busier than I expected and all tables were randomly put together to form 2 king table so we were sat next to total strangers… wasn’t expecting that. So I opened up the door near us to get some fresh air in, checked with waitress they agreed. A lady went and closed it, so I opened it again and then she closed it again… so I opened it!

@LethargicActress

No otherwise I wouldn’t have been shocked!

Hmmm maybe I’ve become immune to the cold as my works policy is that out windows always need to be open.

If you’re so desperate for fresh air don’t go to a fucking restaurant in the middle of winter.

CeibaTree · 19/12/2021 21:03

I probably would have taken one look at the table layout and left - although I would do that pre-covid as I hate communal eating. Anyway you chose to stay despite being worried enough to want to open the door which is kind of odd in itself. Clearly everyone else was fine the way things were as you were the only person who opened the door. Totally selfish and contradictory behaviour.

KatherineJaneway · 19/12/2021 21:04

If you want to have a breeze around you, then book a table outside.

You probably pissed her off opening the door as it could have been cold, especially if you were not in the draft.

Svara · 19/12/2021 21:04

It's different if it's cold at work, you know so you can layer up. If I was going to a restaurant I'd just put my coat over clothing suitable for a normal indoor temperature, but I wouldn't want to wear my coat inside.

Sparklingbrook · 19/12/2021 21:05

You can imagine the other diners now. 'I'm not going to that place again someone opened the door while we were eating and the waitress seemed ok with it, we were sitting there freezing.

Keep an eye on Trip Advisor!

saleorbouy · 19/12/2021 21:06

Why are you eating in a restaurant in the current Covid situation if you're so concerned and can't eat your meal without worry.
Never mind the people next to you what about all the staff who have been in contact with with your food, plates etc.
Personally I'd stay well clear of restaurants just now.

Hope478 · 19/12/2021 21:08

I would have been annoyed at you opening the door as I always feel the cold very easily.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 19/12/2021 21:08

@saleorbouy

Waiting staff were wearing masks as were the chefs… as it’s air borne not that fused about the plates and that!

You could have used your words and spoken to the cold woman explaining your worry. She might have been more sympathetic rather that you repeatedly opening the door which is a bit odd. If you were that worried you should have gone elsewhere

Ginger1982 · 19/12/2021 21:09

I would have closed the door too.

Sparklingbrook · 19/12/2021 21:09

what about all the staff who have been in contact with with your food, plates etc

Gosh yes, the awful staff holding your plate as they serve you. Disgusting. Grin

TheCreamCaker · 19/12/2021 21:11

It's too cold to have doors open. If I'd been in a restaurant and someone had done that, I'd be really pissed off. If you're so worried about catching Covid, stay at home.

Sparklingbrook · 19/12/2021 21:12

Restaurant equivalent of this-

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 19/12/2021 21:13

@Sparklingbrook

Haha thanks for sharing that made me LOL

YWBU to change the environment that other people were comfortable with, without even consulting them.

YWouldNhaveBU to have decided you didn't like the way the tables were set up / you didn't like the fact there was no social distancing from strangers / you didn't like the fact the door was open, and chosen to go elsewhere or to go home.
I think a lot of people are choosing not to go into crowded restaurants in the week before Christmas.
I also think a lot of venues are making arrangements for people to sit outside or near open doors, but this wasn't the case, and YWBU to make it uncomfortable for everyone else there who had made their decision based on their comfort levels. You can't go in and change that without everyone else's agreement.

MeredithGreyishblue · 19/12/2021 21:14

Hugely unreasonable.

In fact, entirely selfish

londonrach · 19/12/2021 21:16

Yabu and rude to open the door when it's freezing out there before checking if the others on the table wanted it open. If you in happy with sharing which I would have now in covid times you don't eat at the restaurant and go elsewhere

Ineedaduvetday · 19/12/2021 21:16

So I opened up the door near us to get some fresh air in

Did you ask nearby tables if they minded?

aprilanne · 19/12/2021 21:16

You are a arsehole for ruining everyone's night if you scared stay at home bloody idiot .

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 19/12/2021 21:19

@aprilanne

I’m not particularly scared… maybe I’ve just saved everyone’s Christmas in there 😂

Depends on the ventilation system in place in the restaurant really

If they have a proper mechanical ventilation system that was reset properly to fresh air mode and was capable of giving proper air change rates then YABU
But if not then YANBU as ventilation is the key at the moment. Wide open might be unnecessary, ajar might be enough with another door at the opposite end of the room also open

WhatIsThisPlease · 19/12/2021 21:23

YABU

I'd have been really pissed off if I was eating my meal and someone decided I had to sit in a cold draught.

If you didn't like the set up you should have left instead of subjecting everyone to what you wanted.

WorraLiberty · 19/12/2021 21:23

If you were seated that close to other people, what difference does opening a door make?

Are you saying that if the tables weren't in long lines you would've left the door closed?

aprilanne · 19/12/2021 21:24

Jesus imagine thinking it's funny ruining folks night that they paid for .because you wanted the door open you obviously were bothered or you wouldn't have insisted on opening the dam door .you didn't save anyone Christmas. Just imagine the reviews having a pleasant night until some twat obviously scared of covid decided to freeze us ..and we had to pay for experience wont be back .1 star rating yeah you really helped restaurant there .
