To have opened the door

Went to a restaurant this eve, was busier than I expected and all tables were randomly put together to form 2 king table so we were sat next to total strangers… wasn’t expecting that. So I opened up the door near us to get some fresh air in, checked with waitress they agreed. A lady went and closed it, so I opened it again and then she closed it again… so I opened it!

@CeibaTree

My children has been looking forward to it all day and as I said before we sat down I asked the waitress, who agreed. So in my mind problemo solves

Pretty chilly and freezing cold are very different IMO
Under 5 degrees is close enough to freezing cold IMO. People say boiling hot at 30 degrees in this country!

Kite22 · 20/12/2021 17:24

Got to love an OP who reads that the replies are all disagreeing with her so changes the information from the original story to try and make herself sound more reasonable Grin

Nobody is disagreeing that fresh air and good ventilation are a good thing - though the advice is 'open a window for 10mins every now and then', not sit in a room with the door wide open.
However, as so many have pointed out, it is your arrogance of unilaterally changing what everyone else was comfortable with that is so Unreasonable.

Your choice not to have sat and eaten in a restaurant that doesn't match your caution / risk levels would have been fine. Lots of other people wouldn't want to eat there, particularly in the run up to Christmas, but you didn't make that choice.

@Kite22

About 450 people are agreeing

So you spent most of the evening playing musical chairs and door open-shutty.
How rude

BlaBlaSmthSmth · 20/12/2021 21:12

Good point, imagine all those germs you were spreading with all that huffing and puffing OP 😂

BringUsSomeFrigginPudding · 20/12/2021 21:24

Imo, either you're happy to risk Covid by eating in a restaurant or you aren't. Sitting next to a bunch of strangers with the door open is still running the risk of catching something.

It wasn’t freezing draft! It was a door ajar!

Blimey no wonder our covid numbers are fucked if people can’t see the benefits of fresh air“

Or can’t see the benefits of not taking their vulnerable parents to a restaurant.
Give it a rest, for fuck’s sake. Can
you really not see how stupid you are, if this is for real.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 21/12/2021 07:47

@MrsSkylerWhite

Please explain why I am “stupid”

And yet here we are. Still justifying it.

MrsSkylerWhite · 21/12/2021 09:26

To decide to eat in a restaurant as numbers soar if you’re worried about Covid is a pretty good definition of stupid, I think.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 21/12/2021 11:23

@MrsSkylerWhite

I am anything but stupid, but thank you for taking time out of your day to reply

“ And remember to keep following the guidance - wear a mask indoors when required to do so, keep fresh air circulating, and take a test before you visit elderly or vulnerable relatives.”

Keep fresh air circulating…

Restaurants have ventilation / air handling.
LlamaParma · 21/12/2021 18:06

Well if Boris, paragon of all pandemic understanding, says it then you definitely weren’t a dick for making everyone cold

RowsOfHolly · 21/12/2021 18:07

I voted YABU. I do think open windows / doors are a good thing, but your behaviour in just repeatedly opening it after it was closed rather than speaking with the other woman was ridiculous.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 21/12/2021 18:08

@RowsOfHolly

Was her behaviour also ridiculous then?

No just yours, it's December and cold. Whilst we have a pandemic, if you're not comfortable with restaurant settings.... stay home.

Katieandthekids · 21/12/2021 21:07

@Merryoldgoat

If you’re so desperate for fresh air don’t go to a fucking restaurant in the middle of winter.
Quite.

Yes, IMO, but she hasn’t posted on MN so I’m responding to you, not her.

And your response here is also childish, whining ‘she was ridiculous too’.

Behave like an adult. Communicate with people! Don’t engage in ridiculous tit for tat. Her being also ridiculous doesn’t make you less ridiculous.

Listening to Boris??

He's also said d limit socialising? Did you not hear that bit? Only listen to what you want to hear, obviously!

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 22/12/2021 07:39

YABU. I'd have spoken to a member of staff if you had opened it again though and acted so petty

VainAbigail · 22/12/2021 11:18

Boris says keep air circulating and gov advice says for 10 mins p/h so why was it necessary for it to be open the whole time you were dining?

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 22/12/2021 16:18

@VainAbigail

To keep the air circulating…!
