Christmas bonuses-do you get one?

If you do get a Christmas bonus, what job do you do and how much do you get-enough to put in the pool you've always wanted or a gym membership like National Lampoon?Grin🎄 I've never had one as the NHS didn't value us. Well, unless a slightly shorter shift at Christmas counts. That 15 minutes made such a difference Hmm

I work for a tech start up. I work in sales so get my own quarterly bonus which is performance based and usually around £5k. Then we get a whole company bonus which is based on a percentage of revenue over the year. If you’ve been there the whole year you get more than someone who has only worked there a few months. But if we hit target it’s roughly £2k per person

BangingOn · 16/12/2021 17:44

My annual bonus is paid at Christmas, but based on the timings of our financial year rather than because it is Christmas. That’s up to 20% of annual salary.

We are given half a day of annual leave for Christmas Eve, a hamper and they send a gift for children of employees.

BitterTits · 16/12/2021 17:44

No, teacher. We work an hour longer this year and there hasn't been any kind of Christmas lunch or celebration.

IAmSantaOhYesIAm · 16/12/2021 17:46

Admin in nhs so no bonus for me! In fact I had a colleague moaning I’m taking annual leave over Christmas. Grrrrrrr

ArblemarzipanTFruitcake · 16/12/2021 17:47

No - we get ours at the end of the financial year.

ibblebibbledibble · 16/12/2021 17:48

No bonus for us

galacticpixels · 16/12/2021 17:48

I work for a tech company. We don't get a Christmas specific bonus - although this year I got a voucher since we weren't having our Christmas party.

We do get a performance-based bonus paid out quarterly, which is 10% of your salary for the quarter.

MissyB1 · 16/12/2021 17:48

I work in a school, Christmas bonus???!! What’s one of those??Grin

converseandjeans · 16/12/2021 17:49

No I'm a teacher. There was a bring your own buffet and secret Santa. I didn't take part. I did get a mini box of Lindor from my line manager. It's quite depressing to hear about £5k bonuses!

SarahProblem · 16/12/2021 17:50

Professional in public sector. No annual bonus but a generous Xmas break from 24th Dec - 4th January that doesn't come out of our generous (35 days plus bank hols) annual leave entitlement

urgenthelpplsas · 16/12/2021 17:52

We get 20% of our bonus before Xmas and the remaining 80% in Feb/March.

It’s 10-20% of base salary depending on your performance and charge ability.

Management consulting.

Kshhuxnxk · 16/12/2021 17:53

No bonus. I work for a social enterprise so every penny is counted. Teachers and NHS you sound as if you're hard done by - I would like to think none of my tax and insurance was going towards staff bonuses You're not exactly on MW are you!

You may not feel valued generally, but a bonus is not the only - or even the best - way to show it. I’d far rather my company put the money into a pay rise - so that it’s pensionable. Talking of pensions - does your NHS one make you feel valued?

Personally I don’t get a bonus at Xmas, but I do get one after financial year end in August. Enough to pay for a family holiday abroad. I love it, obviously! But it doesn’t add much to feeling valued - because you very quickly see it as simply part of your remuneration package, so you’re “owed” it rather than “gifted” it.

Times when I feel valued, are when my manager says things like, “you did some amazing work on that - thank you.”

Ooooh, now that sounds good! 👏🏻

I work in hospitality in a hotel. We get an extra £1 an hour over the two weeks of christmas, a bottle of house wine and a £30 gift voucher. The company have also done '12 days of christmas' where each day is a diffrent prize a random staff member will win. We also get £1 an hour extra over the summer high peak (july/august) and at the end of summer the ones that survive (i think of it as, as the ones that leave during summer dont get it) get a thank you card and a £30 gift voucher. The hotel pay over living wage and is one of the best paying hotels in the area, its a 3 and pays more than the 4 down the road

urgenthelpplsas · 16/12/2021 17:55

I just remembered we also got a random £1k bonus in July for hard work. It is all random. We also got a present for thanks giving. You got to pick from a “shop”, I chose a Jo Malone candle.

We get 35 days AL.
Also because everyone naturally wants Xmas off, we can take it as “unofficial annual leave”. So you just attend to any fires and check your emails every few hours. I’ve run out of AL for this year so I’m doing this and going on holiday.

Hamjamwich · 16/12/2021 17:55

£10

dustandfluf · 16/12/2021 17:55

😆 no I work for the NHS. I'm also working Christmas Day and the 27th & 28th bank holiday. We used to get a coffee and cake voucher but that's been missing for the last 2 years. Merry Christmas!

GrandDuchessRomanov · 16/12/2021 17:56

Yes I do. I’m a SAHM.

Ohmygodyesthatsit · 16/12/2021 17:56

Private I got a £15 voucher quite frankly i would rather not have had anything rather than have to pretend to be grateful that our multi millionaire owners gave us a £15 voucher 😂

urgenthelpplsas · 16/12/2021 17:56

@Cocomarine my company allows you to salary sacrifice your bonus into a pension. But you have to put the entire bonus in. Most people do as they pay 50% tax

FangsForTheMemory · 16/12/2021 17:56

In my first job, at a national charity, I used to get £20 in an envelope with a card signed by the big boss. next two jobs, also charities: nothing. Job after that, local government - you have got to be joking? Can you imagine the headines?

Sunsetsupernova · 16/12/2021 17:56

Sorry why is it depressing? As far as I’m aware no one is forced into their chosen career

NMC2022 · 16/12/2021 17:57

Paid for Christmas meal
£50 Amazon voucher (that was new because of Covid)
I get monthly commission anyway so no actual paid bonus

dustandfluf · 16/12/2021 17:57

No not quite minimum wage of course. Everyone working in the NHS is lording it up with their MASSIVE FAT pay checks every month, dining on caviar and champagne. We're all band 8's you know!!
