Christmas bonuses-do you get one?

If you do get a Christmas bonus, what job do you do and how much do you get-enough to put in the pool you've always wanted or a gym membership like National Lampoon?Grin🎄 I've never had one as the NHS didn't value us. Well, unless a slightly shorter shift at Christmas counts. That 15 minutes made such a difference Hmm

£500

Terminallysleepdeprived · 16/12/2021 18:50

Private sector no bonuses. Worked for various blue chip companies over the years and never had one.

Spoldge45 · 16/12/2021 18:53

My old company were quite generous & I got £300 in cash. My current boss gave me £20 Amazon voucher last year! (both part time admin jobs)

SituationCritical · 16/12/2021 18:54

I'm an employer.
Give £100 voucher each, box of Marks biscuits/chocs and pay for the Christmas party for the employee and their partner (outing/dinner/drinks).

user1471443411 · 16/12/2021 18:56

Never had one - public sector now but when I worked in the private sector the most I ever had was a paid for christmas do.

Footprintsinthegrass · 16/12/2021 18:56

In my last job I got £200 at Christmas. I just started my current job at the end of Nov and not expecting anything as its a much smaller business

passionfruitpizza · 16/12/2021 18:56

Allied health professional and yes. I think my salary is now lower than the pay point I'd be on in the NHS though.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 16/12/2021 18:56

Retail/hospitality.
Performance bonus of up to 2k each quarter.
Hopefully getting mine in the new year!

AmazingBouncingFerret · 16/12/2021 18:57

Oh and I save my tips all year so that’s like a little bonus too.

passionfruitpizza · 16/12/2021 18:57

I worked in Waitrose years ago and bonus was over a months salary which is amazing when you have no financial commitments.

RussianSpy101 · 16/12/2021 18:58

My DH gives his employees a Christmas bonus.

This year they’ve all had £500.

KevinTheKoala · 16/12/2021 18:59

I work in hospitality, we don't get anything for Christmas, no Christmas party because we don't have cover and have to work 3 out 5 of the 'holiday days' (Xmas eve, Xmas day, boxing day, new years day and new years eve). 2 people have quit so we don't know who will have to cover Christmas day now too (even if we had been supposed to have it off)... I've just had to take the day off sick today thanks to a vomiting bug so will probably be me Sad not feeling particularly festive at the moment.

Kingsmede · 16/12/2021 19:00

Local authority education - of course we don't.

HerRoyalNotness · 16/12/2021 19:01

My last job yes, it was a profit bonus rather than for Christmas, so we’d get it in the new year. Depending on your grade it could be anything from $500 to $100k. With the VPs etc getting rather larger ones than that

mrsmoppp · 16/12/2021 19:02

Nhs no bonus but we did get a £50 voucher for working during covid 🙄

bungaloid · 16/12/2021 19:03

At an old company I worked at it was an extra month's salary at Christmas. Xmas Smile

flashpaper · 16/12/2021 19:07

@mrsmoppp

Gosh, where do you work?! We got a thank you card for us working through covid, and I didn't even get one because I'm not on the global emails!
DeepaBeesKit · 16/12/2021 19:10

I get an annual bonus but not paid at Christmas. It's a proper contractual performance driven bonus that makes up around 15% of my total remuneration. I get it in March.

Happyhappyday · 16/12/2021 19:11

I’ve always worked in retail (buying side rather than in a shop) & my bonuses have ranged for 50% of salary (£20-30k) to 15% on the low side. Dependent on company performance but in 15 years I don’t think I’ve ever got less than £10k.

LakieLady · 16/12/2021 19:11

I work in the third sector. We get a Sainsbury's gift card, for £10 or £25, depending on how much money they've managed to save that year. We also get a contribution to a meal or an event, this year it was £9 pp.

We got the same for a "team day" in the summer, but were never actually able to organise it, so we've got £18 pp to spend now.

Beachbreak2411 · 16/12/2021 19:15

One Job I worked in on uni holidays gave us all a Christmas bonus in our Christmas card. Loved seeing what I got each year (max was £200) .. since then… zilch.

GiveYourHeadAWobble · 16/12/2021 19:20

We all get £100 each. I really appreciate it actually.

IUseThisNameToTalkAboutMoney · 16/12/2021 19:22

Financial services.

This year just over 40k. Usually it's nearer 30k.

In my industry, back office and support like me get a percentage of our salary and front office people who bring in business or can draw a direct line between what they do and profit made get a multiple.

We have bonus ranges defined with our jobs and if you are doing a good job at your level you should get roughly in the middle. If you get a low bonus it's a message to do better and if you get zero it's a deliberate insult and they want you to resign.

The higher the bonus, the more likely you get some of it deferred and/or in the form of shares in the company you work for.

Aprilx · 16/12/2021 19:23

I have always worked in the private sector in a professional role. Never had a Christmas bonus, but have had annual performance related bonuses (which have never fallen near Christmas).

Redtartanshoes · 16/12/2021 19:24

Renewable energy.

Used to get up to 10% of salary,

Changed companies, bonus now comes in April. Up to 20% though. Probably a better time to get it, otherwise it just gets eaten up
