AIBU to ask if Boris was having a manic episode in his peppa pig speech today?

Just that really

I have a loved one who has bipolar disorder and to me, this looked very much like a manic episode. If so, I hope he gets the help he needs.

What I want to know is what have they got on offer at Peppa Pig Land that left Boris in such a state the next day? He’s usually so composed, well put together, professional to a fault and a credit to the UK

Haha... you nearly had me there!

Youaremypenguin · 23/11/2021 18:16

He's disorganised, badly prepared and overly reliant on those around him to keep him functioning as PM.

I think he had brought the wrong speech with him and hadn't done any prep so had to totally wing it. He winged it very badly yesterday because all he had to grasp at was Peppa Pig for some unknown reason. His wheels fell off. It was like watching a comedy sketch purposefully hammed up, only it was our actual PM.

I think it's convenient the care bill is today but not necessarily organised on purpose. If it happens again, I'd be suggesting a medical assessment along with his P45.

icelolly12 · 23/11/2021 18:20

He was ill prepared and playing on his eccentric image using 'amusing' anecdotes. Nothing to do with distracting from the Care Bill, the public don't get to vote on it. Boris is a terrible PM. Worst thing is, I'm more worried about who will replace him.

Listener2021 · 23/11/2021 18:24

@MeanderingGently

I suspect Boris is sleep deprived, also juggling too many things (including family demands) and therefore hadn't had a chance to put the preparation into that particular speech.

He also uses bluster to cover up times when he's searching for a word and so doesn't speak well "off the cuff". Everyone loses their place from time to time, it would have been better if he'd just said "sorry, I seem to have lost my place, I'll be with you in a minute" rather than faffing around....would have been less painful.

I also think he tries to make things personal and use anecdotes to make a point, but he needs to hone the way he does it. Instead of doing the "hands up who's been to Pepper Pig world" thing, he'd have been better going along the lines of, "as a dad I've been introduced to Pepper Pig world for the first time, but, when visiting recently, it struck me this could be my sort of world because.....etc., etc...."

I know it's 'fashionable' on MumsNet to hate the chap, but I'm prepared to give Boris the benefit of doubt. I think his heart's there but his delivery is often the problem....
(And yes, I'm on a minimum wage, rent my home, don't have a pension except the state pension and no, I also haven't had any time off this year...before anyone suggests otherwise).

Good grief!

He's a cynical, manipulating, grown man, not a sad little boy at primary school who needs a hug and a bit of understanding. He cares for no one but himself. He'd snigger with self congratulation if he read your post. (Except he'd never bother himself to read the opinions of a minimum wage renter).

Don't you feel even a tiny bit taken for a mug?

icelolly12 · 23/11/2021 18:27

@MeanderingGently Would you write the same if Boris was female?

Stop pitying this rich, lazy, egotistical idiot who couldn't even be bothered reading a speech written for him. We need to hold him to account for the sake of our nation. He's an embarrassment.

Looking at the state of him I’m starting to wonder if Peppa Pig world is code for crack den
the80sweregreat · 23/11/2021 18:36

What is it with the Conservatives and pigs ?
There was all that with David Cameron at Eton and a pig head, now Boris is waffling on about peppa pig world.
They seem to be in awe of the porkers.
In more ways than one..
The daily Mail have headlines that Rishi is ready to take over .. are they plotting something?
It is all very odd

bergam · 23/11/2021 18:52

All this mayhem and bungling is very carefully engineered.

He may be fond of drink and some stimulants, but he damn well knows how to "play" the fool. He knows exactly what he is doing.

Next week he will be on top of his game with some rousing decision on Covid or Brexit and things return to normal again. Whatever normal is these days.

Clavinova · 23/11/2021 19:00

OhGiveUp
As for holidays...he has almost 3 months off for summer recess...

In fact it looks as though he was working all through June, July, August and September - which 3 months were you thinking of?

I just thought he was a bit sleep deprived - he does have a toddler and isn't his second one due very soon You are joking? Can you imagine someone excusing a female worker for fucking up so monumentally because she has small children and is tired?! I don't believe he is ever up with his child. They probably have a night Nanny!

He's ill. When you're PM you don't get any space in your diary to rest. It's relentless.
He is run down. I hope they let him have a decent break over Christmas. Everyone deserves to snatch a bit of down time. Even the PM. I work in the care sector. Most of us have had no annual leave for 2 years due to the staffing crisis. None of us will get a break over Christmas. We're all tired. We all want a break. We can't and won't compromise care because we haven't had a holiday for 4 weeks like him!

I wouldn't mind being permanently shattered for what he earns!!

longwayoff · 23/11/2021 19:21

Please cut and paste the CBI speech Clavinova, just so we can all share its nuanced message. Or we might stop laughing. I'm looking forward to Bozo being the first PM to have a suitcase of clothes slung out of the window by his furious current wife.

@Itsnotallaboutyoubaby

I agree. Dangerous man masquerading as a buffoon
This
entropynow · 23/11/2021 19:32

Lazy, arrogant and under-prepared. Save your sympathy for someone who needs it.

ChristmasPlanning · 23/11/2021 19:35

Let's remember that he has speech writers! So it's not as if he even had to write the speech. He had chosen not to read it & be a bumbling idiot

TheABC · 23/11/2021 19:37

@Cheerfulcharlie

Perhaps it was the after effects of a visit to Peppa Pig World. I seem to remember being quite traumatised from it myself come to think about it.

ThinWomansBrain · 23/11/2021 19:40

It made the cop "Britain is not corrupt" speech sound like something to be proud of.
He must have been high on drugs, blind drunk or both.

At least the CBI laughed at Boris Johnson's jokes - they didn't laugh at Starmer's - and I doubt Starmer was looking for what was described as a "muted response" to his speech.

tarasmalatarocks · 23/11/2021 20:02

Anyone sticking up for this utter shambles, you need to look at how far your standards have slipped. If he can’t stand the heat then he shouldn’t have been in the kitchen in the first place. Having a baby and another on the way with an super important and challenging job was his choice , no one forced him at gun point . With regards to Brexit— if he had actually stayed true to his instincts and speeches in 2016 then he would have been pressing at least for EFTA a few years ago, as he declared Brexit would be rubbish for business and industry and rather pointless back in 2015. Fact was that last minute he saw a sniff at the top job so quickly changed direction. The speech yesterday was to a local branch of CBI, not an after dinner speech bit of a laugh to the Rugby club— that area today has lost several thousand jobs directly because of Brexit with the closure of Ineos. the country may as well elect Rod Liddle or some other puffed up 3rd rate stand up - Johnson simply is clueless

Tillymintpolo · 23/11/2021 20:04

They weren’t laughing at his jokes, they were laughing at him, incompetent, lazy and promoted far beyond his capabilities, it’s beyond embarrassing

IpanemaPeaHen · 23/11/2021 20:11

Friend worked with him at the FO. He was lazy, unprepared and hated detail. There’s your answer.

longwayoff · 23/11/2021 20:13

Nice try Clav. Not your best work.

tarasmalatarocks · 23/11/2021 20:15

@MeanderingGently. Unfortunately , you are his demographic, retired people prepared to think ‘oh underneath it he means well’. — I know someone in civil service within Westminster,, he is considered lazy, arrogant ,and totally unsuited— basically a posh berk— fun to have a drink with- but that’s it. Surprisingly a lot of civil servants actually like working for Gove because regardless of whether you like his views, he is apparently very sharp (probably all that coke ) well prepared , does detailand is respectful of the staff and listens to them too.

Nightingalecollege · 23/11/2021 20:19

Concern trolling is sly. Just come out with it or you sound like those Alice Evans obsessives.

BorisStopOffendingYourBarber · 23/11/2021 20:26

I do feel sorry for the children trying to enjoy a nice day out at Peppa Pig World. What did they do to deserve Bojo and his inevitable buffoonery in their safe space?
