He has gone to Liverpool till Monday.
The hotel is paid for and includes breakfast.
He has taken £400 spending money.

He said "the bars are quite expensive down there"

So basically he is happy to potentially waste £400 on alcohol for two nights.

I'm annoyed and think it's pathetic
He said we are going for a nice meal tonight too.

£400 for two nights is just scandalous I think

Sounds about right?
Especially if there’s a group and he may have to buy rounds etc

WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor · 25/10/2021 07:56

Taxis, round of shots, food, entrance to clubs etc it all adds up. He may not spend it all but it’s nice to have it there and not be worried your card will be declined. Unless it’s a regular occurrence and spending is very unequal between you I’d say it’s fine.

washerdrier · 25/10/2021 08:11

Sooooo did he have a good weekend? Did he come back with change?

AnnaSW1 · 25/10/2021 08:29

Sounds reasonable plus he has to eat too!

BluebelllsRosesDaffodills · 25/10/2021 08:29

Where can you eat in Liverpool that is £100 each?

CallMeRisley · 25/10/2021 08:45

@BluebelllsRosesDaffodills

I don’t know Liverpool at all so I just randomly picked the chain steak house restaurant Miller & Carter, I assume it’s mid-high range with many cheaper options but a few more expensive options too, probably quite a standard “weekend away meal out” type place.

From the nibbles menu
Garlic bread £4.25

Starter
Scallops 8.95

Main course
Steak 34.95 comes with all the sides

Dessert
Chocolate brownie with ice cream 6.75

The drinks menu didn’t have prices but I did find some photos people had taken of the menu on review sites, so approximately:
Pre-dinner cocktail £8
Bottle of wine £25
End of meal coffee £4

Rounding the .95s up, that comes to £94
@browneyes77
If there are 4 of them each buying 4 rounds, is EVERYONE necking 16 pints or the equivalent? I doubt it.
You’d be surprised….

That’s just pints. If they’re having things like JD’s etc, that would likely cost more than a pint and come to a similar amount.

I’m merely saying that if you’re buying rounds, the cost can add up more quickly, than if you were just buying for yourself.

browneyes77 · 25/10/2021 09:31

Are you suggesting they'll each buy four rounds totalling £100 each? Five people each buying four rounds would mean each person having 20 drinks.. Surely they would by one round each so they'd have 5 drinks each at £25 min.. Or am I missing something?

No. That isn’t what I’m suggesting. I was merely giving a quick example of how costs can rack up. I don’t know how many men the OP’s DP has gone away with. It could be 5,6,7 or more. The more there are, the more the rounds will cost. It was just a hypothetical example 🙄

And Yes. What you’re missing, is the point.

Which is that when you’re buying rounds it will usually cost more than if you were just buying for yourself.

I used to be a barmaid many years ago. I’ve seen how much men drink on lads nights out. You’d be surprised at how many drinks some men can put away.

fromdownwest · 25/10/2021 09:59

Does he scrutinise and check you expenditure on this level?

RussianSpy101 · 25/10/2021 10:10

@BluebelllsRosesDaffodills
Roski
The Artschool Resturant
Cowshed

The OP said he was going for steak so that’s possibly cowshed.
£50 for the greedy cow, then starter, dessert and drinks. Easily £100

If you’re looking for somewhere out of your usual budget, try google or trip advisor.

browneyes77 · 25/10/2021 11:33

@rachybarrr

I'm not controlling at all but if the roles were reversed he would have something to say. I bought myself a jacket from Zara for £49.99 and he went on about it for a week. I wore it every weekend so I would show him I was getting my money's worth Grin
He has no business giving you grief over a £50 coat, if he’s going to spend £400 on a weekend away with the boys.

I’d be reminding him of this for say….a week Grin

Sienna9522 · 25/10/2021 14:45

Sorry but that sounds right to me.

tigerlilly22 · 25/10/2021 16:54

I live here and think that amount of money is reasonable. He will presumably be in the city centre bars and restaurants which are really expensive. If he can afford it then why not !

rachybarrr · 25/10/2021 17:41

Well he is home.
Spent the £400 and put over £230 on to the credit card.
So I'm a bit annoyed but never mind
So all in all 2 nights including hotel has cost nearly £800

OP posts:
TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 25/10/2021 18:11

That's a lot of kebabs...
I'd want an itemised bill for that amount.

finopitta · 25/10/2021 18:18

Okay, I was in the £400 isn't too much crew but £630 really is a lot. Unless you're rolling in it that's crazy lots. I originally thought he'd need £400 to keep up with the crowd but £630 is excessive

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 25/10/2021 18:20

That definitely needs challenging. You have every right to ask where all the money went. I know what I suspect. You can check the credit card bit at least.
finopitta · 25/10/2021 18:21

I think you need to rethink your finances and put less in to the savings account but each have your own money/equal pocket money. Then you can save yours if you choose to and he can spunk his on nights out.

finopitta · 25/10/2021 18:22

So it was debit card and credit card? Or did he draw cash?

KatherineSiena · 25/10/2021 18:23

Well jolly well remind him every time you wear your jacket and indeed whenever you fancy buying something else new.

Mary46 · 25/10/2021 18:30

Seems alot. You should treat yourself op.. I did a night in London with my friend we spent good bit but did a show and drinks too. Hard say but 400 is alot but drinks add up fast I find

stillonthattightrope · 25/10/2021 18:32

That's a lot of money and I didn't think 400 was that unreasonable.

I'd want a hell of a lot more than a weekend in bloody Manchester for 800 quid!

What did he spend it on?

stillonthattightrope · 25/10/2021 18:33

Sorry, wrong city! Grin

Bluemoononkentucky · 25/10/2021 18:34

Yeah!

£630!

I'd be asking him in what kind of establishment he was purchasing his drinks and how many private dances he had there. Enough standard booze to warrant that kind of money being spent would bloody well kill you if you drank it all over two nights by yourself.

I'd be gettting suspicious if I were you.

ToastCrumbsOnAPlate · 25/10/2021 18:40

Sorry op. All of the previous posts regarding coke and lap dances don't seem so ridiculous now.
