To be astounded people are defending John Barrowman

Or that they ever did, but particularly in the current climate.

Defending/diminishing the actions of a man whose colleagues have repeatedly said has exposed himself at work? Really? If he worked at Sainsbury's and did it there would it be ok too?

Some of the excuses I've heard include he's gay so he didn't fancy them, what's the problem/it was just a laugh/he's in showbusiness, it's different and so on. No. It's not. Assault is assault and dismissing it or justifying it, or implying that women need to lighten up and get a sense of humour, normalises his actions and validates others who do similar - it's just messing about/a bit of fun, after all.

I cannot believe that anyone would think it's ok to slap your penis on a colleague's body while at work, but apparently some people do. Bonkers.

What did Noel Clarke do. I get a very creepy vibe off him on bake off. That's Noel Fieldng, and the creepy vibe is his day job! Grin

He's an old fashioned gender bending male with a lot of of old fashioned goth thrown into the mix. And the kind of weird sense, off kilter of humour I always think Vic Reeves is reaching for - unsuccesfully!

ElectricDeChocobo · 05/10/2021 14:46

@FloconDeNeige

I didn’t say that. I said he likely got away with it for longer due to being gay. Surely most men who were routinely doing this were forced into stopping when the likes of Jimmy Saville and Jeffrey Epstein were exposed. It’s quite telling that JB wasn’t - he clearly thought he could hide behind his sexuality in order to continue.

Interesting about Noel Clarke too. I wonder how many women he intimidated into silence with the race card?

I find it absolutely sickening that some men are using their protected characteristics as a guise to abuse women.

The race card? Wow.

Do you have any actual evidence that his race had anything to do with it or is it just an assumption on your part? Is the a nasty black prick?

Cam22 · 05/10/2021 14:48

He’s a pervert. Ugh.

FloconDeNeige · 05/10/2021 14:53

@ElectricDeChocobo

Don’t put words in my mouth.

And no, I have no evidence, I’m speculating that it may have occurred. JB clearly hid behind his sexuality to abuse women so it’s not without the realms of possibility that someone else could hide behind their race to do the same. It’s not as if it hasn’t happened before.

FloconDeNeige · 05/10/2021 14:57

And either way, it seems that men, be they gay, straight, black, white, old, young, able-bodied, disabled, cis or trans all assault and abuse women.

mordinvasnormandy · 06/10/2021 13:26

Plenty of straight white men get away with abuse for decades. Please don't pretend it's because he's gay, or because Noel Clarke is black.
