What would you think if you saw a grown woman roller skating in the street?

Honestly? I am seriously thinking of getting a pair. I ordered my four year old a pair of roller skates for Xmas, and I used to ice skate when I was younger and loved it. I would like to teach him but I would also like to take him to skate parks etc as something we can do together. What would you honestly think about someone my age roller skating about the place? I’ll be doing it with my kids though

@RogersVideo

Rollerblading (with the wheels all in a row) is a totally normal adult activity where I'm from (Canada).
It's quite usual here too (Germany)-inlining!

We are near a "route" that is often used.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 29/09/2021 13:58

I see it all the time since the council resurfaced my street and closed one end to traffic (inconvenient).

Everyone practices on the street then shows off their moves at the family roller disco at Bruce Grove on a Saturday afternoon.

thevassal · 29/09/2021 13:59

I'd be impressed because I just sold mine on ebay because it was so much harder than I remembered. Inlines are much easier than quads! My local city has skate discos for families and skate jams just for adults plus roller Derby etc. If that would be fun for you and your dd?

mistermagpie · 29/09/2021 13:59

In the summer I saw a women roller skating whilst pusher he baby in the pram, she looked amazing and I thought she was so cool!

Buffoonborisisatwat · 29/09/2021 13:59

Wish I could do that

shouldistop · 29/09/2021 14:01

@OwlBasket in much of the uk the pavements aren't smooth enough to skate on.

CallyWW · 29/09/2021 14:03

Love it!!!! So fun!

lobsteroll · 29/09/2021 14:07

I'd think she was fabulous! Enjoying life to the full.

summersolstice43 · 29/09/2021 14:09

I'm in my 40's and have some roller boots :) granted, I dont wear them often but they are good fun and great exercise too. Go for it, you only live once so enjoy it.

chestnutshell · 29/09/2021 14:11

I’d honestly think nothing of it apart from that it looks like good exercise.

I’m some some po-faced and humourless would have an opinion but honestly life is too short and too precious to live in through the gaze of others. You don’t owe anyone a nice dignified power walk around the block, but you do owe yourself joy in a world that can be joyless sometimes.

ineedaholidayandwine · 29/09/2021 14:15

I was thinking the same OP as i used to love rollerblading and really want some

ineedaholidayandwine · 29/09/2021 14:15

Speed me up on the school run when my daughter uses her scooter :-D

bonbonours · 29/09/2021 14:16

Skating on pavements is pretty much impossible here, you need nice smooth tarmac which we don't have. I love roller skating at rinks though.

TintinIsBack · 29/09/2021 14:17

I’d be very jealous!

AryaStarkWolf · 29/09/2021 14:17

I occasionally see adult men/women rollerblading on the walkway near where I live. i think it looks like a fun way to exercise

Anonymous48 · 29/09/2021 14:18

A) Why would you care what other people think? You'd be doing something that contributes towards both your physical and mental health.

B) What makes you think you'd be so special? Where I live, I frequently see adults rollerblading. Is that not the case where you are?

godmum56 · 29/09/2021 14:22

I would be jealous as hell because my knees won't stand it

Hoovergroover · 29/09/2021 14:23

I'd think you were bloody marvellous 👍

And if anyone says anything about "recapturing your youth" just say you never lost it and skate away laughing GrinGrinGrin

Alwaysfuckingsick · 29/09/2021 14:24

'I wish I had co ordination' is pretty much all I would think.

Boo65 · 29/09/2021 14:25

I'd think it was great! And be a little envious

Bobsyer · 29/09/2021 14:25

“Huh. There’s a woman roller skating”.

I might even think “that looks fun” although I wouldn’t do it myself.

starrynight21 · 29/09/2021 14:28

A friend's sister is a well-known inline roller skater at the age of 73 - and she only took it up a few years ago. She is now sponsored by a skate company and a skater's clothing company ! I've seen videos of her gliding around the streets of London looking fabulous . If this is what you want to do, you go , girl ! She features in this article - www.timeout.com/london/things-to-do/meet-the-inspiring-70-plus-londoners-who-arent-slowing-down

Nomorefuckstogive · 29/09/2021 14:30

I’d think you were amazing and wish I’d had the courage to do it myself when DD was little. Enjoy every minute!

Mol1628 · 29/09/2021 14:31

Would in passing think cool!! Looks fun! Few people here I see on blades presumably going to work.

I used to love roller blading as a child I don’t think I could do it now.
