What would you think if you saw a grown woman roller skating in the street?

Honestly? I am seriously thinking of getting a pair. I ordered my four year old a pair of roller skates for Xmas, and I used to ice skate when I was younger and loved it. I would like to teach him but I would also like to take him to skate parks etc as something we can do together. What would you honestly think about someone my age roller skating about the place? I’ll be doing it with my kids though

I know some roller derby players. I'd wonder if I knew her and wave as I'm waiting for new glasses 😂

safariboot · 29/09/2021 13:23

Nothing much. I'd probably notice, because it's an uncommon sight, but unless she's skating like an idiot I wouldn't pay much attention.

I rollerbladed a bit when I was younger but never quite learned how to stop, I used to just aim for a lamppost and grab it Grin.

SunnyCoco · 29/09/2021 13:25

I really think people don't really think anything about other people in the street
Everyone is just going about their lives

Have a great time

HarrisMcCoo · 29/09/2021 13:27

I would cheer her on, and feel jealous I didn't have my own pair of skates!

DeepaBeesKit · 29/09/2021 13:27

I miss my roller blades.my mum threw them out while I was at university and I've not forgiven her.

adds rollerblades to christmas list

Disfordarkchocolate · 29/09/2021 13:27

I really wish I could still do that.

EnjoyingTheArmoire · 29/09/2021 13:28

I would think "lucky her", and "I wish I could do that"

Life is too short, buy the rollerskates!

LeaveYourHatOn · 29/09/2021 13:29

This is a BRILLIANT idea! I am going to get myself some rollerskates! How good do you think you'd have to be to skate while walking the dog do you think?

Rooksink · 29/09/2021 13:29

I'd think good for her! And would want to join in. Am 57.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 29/09/2021 13:29

Wouldn’t think anything!

I don’t seem to be able to teach my 7 yo though!

Wingedharpy · 29/09/2021 13:29

I'd be in awe that she/anyone can remain upright on a pair of skates of any description.
Enjoy.Smile

I’m 48 and started roller skating this year. I skate at the skate park and in the park. In a couple of the parks near my house, loads of adults meet up and skate with music, we skate around the park, learn roller dance moves and have fun. Anyone can go along and it’s really friendly. Some kids come with their parents but it’s mostly adults.

I don’t skate on the street cos I’m not confident and still not v good yet! I’d be jealous and full of admiration of anyone I saw doing it!

Twinstudy · 29/09/2021 13:31

I'd be jealousGrin I used to skate when I was younger but now I'm old I'm too nervous of breaking a hip or something

StrongTea · 29/09/2021 13:31

I’d love a pair, used to skate when young. We used to get towed along by someone cycling in front.

ShinyThingsDistractMe · 29/09/2021 13:32

I often do this down the coastal promenade. I love it! Headphones on and skating along. My son who I also taught to skate loves coming with me. We have a blast.

Sometimes we are a pair and sometimes just me.

Fuck everyone else, I'm living my best life it's my bobble don't burst it haha 😂

GreatPotato · 29/09/2021 13:32

I know a man in his 40s who roller skates (including roller disco) with his 10yo DD. Yes it's unusual, but if anyone "thinks" anything it's isn't that lovely, I wish I could do that.

AFuturisticalSound · 29/09/2021 13:32

I saw a woman roller skating the other day on my way to work, I assumed she was also on her way to work. Nothing else

JaneJeffer · 29/09/2021 13:33

First thought: period as pp's have mentioned
Second thought: don't get too close because I will fall over

shouldistop · 29/09/2021 13:33

'That looks fun'

wandawaves · 29/09/2021 13:34

I would think "ooh cool, I love roller skating!", closely followed by "but I hope her bones are strong, because falls as an adult aren't as straightforward as when you're a kid"... says me who is emotionally scarred from breaking my wrist while rollerskating as an adult! I must admit though, champagne was also involved! Also fancy dress was involved, which made for some interesting responses at the emergency department.

Flawedperfection · 29/09/2021 13:34

Go for it!!
It’s a great workout and if you’re naturally lazy like me, it doesn’t even seem like exercise.
Just make sure you have shin pads etc and don’t go near roads until you’re more confident.
Just do it, and many of us will probably copy you, OP!

alwaysscared · 29/09/2021 13:35

I'd be jealous. I would love to be able to roller skate again! Got a pair a few years ago but just couldn't do it! Couldn't even let go of DH's hand!

Couchbettato · 29/09/2021 13:35

I've got some lovely roller skates but absolutely 0 balance so they've been worn all of 2 times and I fell over so tbh if I saw a woman roller skating successfully I'd be so bloody jealous but seriously impressed.

Smokeahontas · 29/09/2021 13:35

That they were filming a Tampax ad.

Flawedperfection · 29/09/2021 13:36

And OP, I really fancy skating along Worthing promenade now!! Wind in my hair, freeeeedomm!!
