What would you think if you saw a grown woman roller skating in the street?

Honestly? I am seriously thinking of getting a pair. I ordered my four year old a pair of roller skates for Xmas, and I used to ice skate when I was younger and loved it. I would like to teach him but I would also like to take him to skate parks etc as something we can do together. What would you honestly think about someone my age roller skating about the place? I’ll be doing it with my kids though

I would think nothing of her. I’d remember my clip on/strap on /key operated skates which I basically spent my childhood in. I’d think ‘how fun’ I’d then think about broken wrists if I took it up again several decades later.
Get them ! Use them ! What fun.

furbabymama87 · 29/09/2021 13:38

If it was on the park for exercise I wouldn't really think anything. If it was on the street I'd think she was a bit of a tit.

OneTC · 29/09/2021 13:40

I (40s) got invited out skating by my friend (early 50s) the other day. I used to skate when I was younger but haven't owned a pair in years. Considering getting some but may wait for next summer

notacooldad · 29/09/2021 13:40

I would think ' shell be going arse over tit if shes not careful'. Our streets are terrible for potholes and cracked pavements.

Willyoujustbequiet · 29/09/2021 13:41

I'd be jealous. Good on you.

CounsellorTroi · 29/09/2021 13:41

I’d think she was having fun!

MrsFlinch · 29/09/2021 13:42

I’d think nothing of it, lots of adults roller skate here with and without kids.
I used to go out with my kids on skates, scooter and bike, I even gave their go karts a whirl up and down the street and tbh I didn’t give a crap what anyone thought we were having fun and kids loved it!

crochetmonkey74 · 29/09/2021 13:42

There's a lady near me who roller skates to work - I see her most days- she is very cool and her dress sense is excellent- she just looks so effortless!

Bogofftosomewherehot · 29/09/2021 13:42

I want to get a pair and I'm in my 50's. Just go for it!

Generallystruggling · 29/09/2021 13:43

I’d probably feel quite jealous because I never mastered the art!

BertramLacey · 29/09/2021 13:43

What does it matter what age you are or whether or not you're with your kids? Who gives a shit? And if they do, why do you care what they think? You're not harming anyone or breaking any laws so if you want to do it, go for it.

angelopal · 29/09/2021 13:43

DH and I both bought rollerblades so we could skate with DD. Seen a variety of ages this year in parks with skates and rollerblades. Have fun

gwenneh · 29/09/2021 13:44

Wouldn't think a thing of it. Might look to see what skates you have, but I've played roller derby for years!

herculesoffline · 29/09/2021 13:44

@OwlBasket

Don’t adults skate for exercise in the uk?Confused Really?

It’s a common alternative to jogging here. Usually inline skates rather than rollerskates, but niether is odd.

Yeah we do skate often actually we just never told @Opal93 in a kind of Truman Show-esque prank Grin
ElizaDarcysDeeds · 29/09/2021 13:44

I'd wonder where you got your skates because I struggled to find ones I liked. Go! Skate free, OP! For all of us . Smile

iklboo · 29/09/2021 13:46

I wonder if she was on a Roller Derby team.

RedMarauder · 29/09/2021 13:46

I wouldn't as it is a great way to get around.

University students use to do it for a couple of months every year.

Mommabear20 · 29/09/2021 13:47

I'd think it's a great way to exercise and spend time with your kids while covering my kids eyes so they didn't get any ideas about me doing it! 😂

luckylavender · 29/09/2021 13:49

Nothing. But then I live in Brighton. Anything goes.

evilharpy · 29/09/2021 13:50

I'd be gawping at her out of admiration and pure jealousy. I'd love to be able to skate and follow a few skaters on instagram, but bought myself a pair and realised that my balance is shite. I'm going to have another go at it when we move to somewhere less hilly.

TuftyMarmoset · 29/09/2021 13:51

I’d think, I wish I had the coordination for that!

SirenSays · 29/09/2021 13:53

Do it OP, I got a pair of white rollerskates to join the kids and I absolutely fell in love with skating all over again. Now I've got a pair of blades too. The lads at the skate park were more than happy to help teach me a few tricks and people always make nice comments when they see me skating about. I'm even thinking about joining a Derby team.

babybythesea · 29/09/2021 13:53

I’d think “Do I have milk in the fridge or do I need to get some now? Oh look, she’s on roller skates. And that man has a nice looking dog - unusual breed. What time will I get in and do I have time for a sit down and a brew before cooking dinner?”

I don’t really pay much attention to what people around me are doing! Go ahead. People who judge you aren’t worth worrying about anyway.

User112 · 29/09/2021 13:54

You are a grown woman when to stop caring a shit about what others think.

GO FOR IT !

PineappleRage · 29/09/2021 13:56

@LeaveYourHatOn

This is a BRILLIANT idea! I am going to get myself some rollerskates! How good do you think you'd have to be to skate while walking the dog do you think?
Think how well trained the dog is to not suddenly bolt would be a big factor too! Grin
