What would you think if you saw a grown woman roller skating in the street?

Honestly? I am seriously thinking of getting a pair. I ordered my four year old a pair of roller skates for Xmas, and I used to ice skate when I was younger and loved it. I would like to teach him but I would also like to take him to skate parks etc as something we can do together. What would you honestly think about someone my age roller skating about the place? I’ll be doing it with my kids though

I'd say I wish I hadn't got rid of my inline skates...

Lavender24 · 29/09/2021 13:08

Not much really.

skippy67 · 29/09/2021 13:08

@OwlBasket

Don’t adults skate for exercise in the uk?Confused Really?

It’s a common alternative to jogging here. Usually inline skates rather than rollerskates, but niether is odd.

Where do you live? We lived in Madrid at the time and as you say, very common there. Now we're back, it's less so, but I don't care!

I would think you would be ruining your wheels, and then I would think that they wouldn’t let you into our fab skating rink with pitted gritty wheels!

Blackkoala · 29/09/2021 13:09

I wouldn’t think twice about it and you shouldn’t either - who cares what anyone thinks! Life is way too short to miss out on harmless things you would enjoy because other people might not approve.

Waitwhat23 · 29/09/2021 13:09

I was eyeing a pair of incredibly cool, multi coloured roller skates in a Zero Waste place at the weekend, wishing I had the grace to wear them (I know what I'm like, I'd end up breaking my nose). If I saw you, I'd be very envious!

Sexnotgender · 29/09/2021 13:11

I’d think good on her! Go for it, life’s fucking short. Care less about what others think of you.

RogersVideo · 29/09/2021 13:11

Rollerblading (with the wheels all in a row) is a totally normal adult activity where I'm from (Canada).

londonrach · 29/09/2021 13:11

Impressed and jealous I can't skate..go for it! If you to he skill wants stopping you

CandidaAlbicans2 · 29/09/2021 13:12

I'd think, "fair play to you, but rather you than me" (I had an accident on skates as a child)

notawittyname1954 · 29/09/2021 13:12

Good for her. My daughter is 34 and routinely skates in the street and it gives her such joy. Obviously as long as you are not endangering other people.

Sloth66 · 29/09/2021 13:13

A woman near us skates. She looks confident and very fit.

PineappleRage · 29/09/2021 13:14

Do it! Doubt anyone will comment but if they do just ignore them. I skateboard, it's just a valid a sport/hobby/fun thing to do for older people as biking etc

nc4565 · 29/09/2021 13:14

Genuinely? I'd think "good on her!"

AbandonedCharacter · 29/09/2021 13:17

I'd genuinely be jealous!

amusedtodeath1 · 29/09/2021 13:18

I'd think "look at that woman skating wow, If that were me I'd be flat on my arse by now".

Besides who cares what people think. Go for it!

Whatdoihavetodo · 29/09/2021 13:19

I'd be so jealous as would love to roller skate. Never seen anyone round here skating, it's all hills so not really safe and no where flat to skate. Always look on in envy off people on Tv skating around a park or seaside front.

JaninaDuszejko · 29/09/2021 13:20

I'd buy you a pair of white jeans and film you for a Tampax ad?

Wasn't it 'oooh, bodyform, body form for you'?

MissCalamity · 29/09/2021 13:20

Good for you! My DD got roller skates for her birthday this year and I've taken her out on them. I used to roller skate when I was a lot younger & was really good at it.
Sadly when I tried again when we were on holiday, I was so wobbly & couldn't get a good rhythm, then spectacularly fell on my arse & smacked my head on the floor, I've not tried again since.... Blush

LaBellina · 29/09/2021 13:20

Honestly I would think good on her.
What’s wrong with exercising and having fun at the same time?
Go order your skates and have fun!

mewkins · 29/09/2021 13:20

We have a great roller thing near here run by a former pro skater who rents out a bug hall. Plenty of adults take part. I've also hired skates from a shop to skate round Hyde Park before and there were loads of skaters (mainly adults) and it was all very friendly. I would just go for it x

dudsville · 29/09/2021 13:21

I'd think:

  1. that's fabulous!
  2. I hope she doesn't hurt herself
  3. I wonder what it's like skating on x surface... the last time I skated I was a child at a roller rink! It was the 70s. The music, outfits and skating behaviour were all very fabulous!
gamerchick · 29/09/2021 13:22

Just have a practise yourself. I used to be able to do things back in the day, it comes as a surprise when nursing an injury that came by surprise when confidently trying again with the adult stiff arse.

I would bat an eyelid though, go for it Grin

Wazzzzzzzup · 29/09/2021 13:22

Absolutely nothing... Not "good on her" no "omg too old". Nothing really.

Wait. Yeah actually, one thing but that goes for anyone any sex and age
"On these pavements? Bloody hell"

Camrette · 29/09/2021 13:22

I live where there’s a long flat promenade and see plenty of adults roller skating every day. I always think “I wish I could do that”
