Do you take your wedding ring off?

In theory, I like the idea that he put it on me and it will always stay there, however also, I work as a primary teacher and my ring has diamonds in it so surely I’ll need to take it off to get the paint/glue/snot out properly?

I take mine off when I go swimming as I am afraid of losing it in the pool.

No, I wouldn’t risk losing it. I never take mine off.

I used to take my engagement ring off to bake, then was devastated when I lost it. Mercifully it turned up six weeks later, stuck in the hinge of a kilner jar Blush but I never wanted to go through that again.

Obviously if you work with machinery and need to remove it for safety, fine, but otherwise I wouldn’t.

Proudboomer · 25/09/2021 22:55

I never take mine off even though I am a widow now.

Starsong82 · 25/09/2021 22:55

Yup, every night my wedding and engagement ring go into the jewellery box, same if showering, swimming, exercising or doing something messy. I've never worn lots of jewellery, I just don't particularly like the feel of it on.

Thesearmsofmine · 25/09/2021 22:58

I don’t wear mine as I find rings irritating to wear. Interesting to see others saying the same on here as irl everyone thinks I’m odd for not wearing them!

I’ve never noticed if my friends wear rings or not!
CornedBeef451 · 25/09/2021 23:04

I haven't worn mine for about 3 years. My skin seems to react to any hand wash or heat and itch and swell a bit and then the rings were uncomfortable.

For a while I only wore them when I went out but then stopped doing that as I'd end up taking them off when I was it and worrying I'd lose them.

DH would prefer it if I wore them but isn't particularly bothered. He still wears his.

Nogoodusername · 25/09/2021 23:08

I take mine off all the time. Sometimes don’t wear it at all and instead wear a dress ring on that finger. DH only tolerated his band for about a year and then hasn’t worn it since - so 12 years lol

Aqua55 · 25/09/2021 23:11

I haven't worn one since the day I got married. I don't need an archaic symbol to show that I'm owned by someone.

Me either. I like my rings though!

Good for you. I like seeing us with our rings on. Nothing to do with owning each other.
Cuddlyrottweiler · 25/09/2021 23:14

Mine are put away and I wear a silicone stretchy one. It was meant for just when I was at the gym and stuff but since getting pregnant my proper ones don't fit anymore.
DH rarely wears his, he has three, he wears them when we're going places but doesn't just leave it on. I always knew he wouldn't though, he'd live in just his pants if he could

mindutopia · 25/09/2021 23:15

I’ve only ever taken mine off for medical reasons (x-rays, operations, etc). It doesn’t come off easily! But also paint, bread dough, etc never been an issue. It all washes off.

2miz · 25/09/2021 23:18

We both never wear ours apart from special occasions a couple of times a year, if that. I just don't like wearing rings and dh deals with lots of animals and just prefers not to have it on for that.

Pedalpushers · 25/09/2021 23:23

Honestly I feel like never taking it off is really gross. I take it off to go to the toilet, handle raw meat etc.

CalmConfident · 25/09/2021 23:23

I only take mine off to apply hand cream, and when I was pregnant with DS1 and my hands swelled up.

Rosebel · 25/09/2021 23:23

I took mine off in the later months of all 3 pregnancies when my fingers swelled and it got tight.
Other than that I rarely take it off but if I return to childcare work I'll probably take it off for work.

CalmConfident · 25/09/2021 23:25

I just wash my hands and rings at same time. Platinum so pretty hard wearing.

Timefortea4 · 25/09/2021 23:25

I stopped wearing mine because I developed an oversensitive little finger. If I hit it in the ring place it's so painful, like nerve damage or something. Anyone else had this happen?

notangelinajolie · 25/09/2021 23:29

No never ever. It's been there since the day he put it on. 30 years. TBH it's a size J and there isn't a hope in hell's chance of it ever coming off since it's practically ingrained. I used to think I was fat, how was I ever that tiny Confused

littledrummergirl · 25/09/2021 23:29

I stopped wearing mine at the start of the pandemic so that it was easier to wash my hands properly without leaving it behind near the sink.
I haven't put it back on yet.

Topseyt · 25/09/2021 23:45

Mine has been on my finger constantly since the day it was put on 28 years ago.

I wouldn't be able to get it off as my fingers are fatter now and have grown around it.

Howshouldibehave · 25/09/2021 23:54

Mine has never come off. I’ve taught KS1 for decades and have never got snot/paint/glue on me that I wasn’t able to wash off…

Cryalot2 · 25/09/2021 23:58

Am married now almost 34 years. I had a beautiful wedding ring. I had to get it cut off during my first pregnancy. It never fitted properly when fixed. Whilst I have got another wedding ring which I have worn more its not the same. Dh and I had beautiful matching wedding rings, he wore his for years until it wore thin and he got an injury .
I wear this second one from time to time, but my hands swell up so depends. We are no less married, its just one of those things.
