Do you take your wedding ring off?

In theory, I like the idea that he put it on me and it will always stay there, however also, I work as a primary teacher and my ring has diamonds in it so surely I’ll need to take it off to get the paint/glue/snot out properly?

Sometimes. If I'm doing it something that might damage the ring or make it gross (raw meat etc) then it goes on the ring tree. Mine's just a band though. No jewels.

However my engagement ring barely lives on my finger. The diamond makes it fiddly and irritating so only wear it if going out somewhere.

iusedtoloveopalfruits1 · 25/09/2021 20:42

I don’t wear mine to work as
technically your only allowed a plain band which mine isn’t plus there are too many bodily fluids it could potentially come into contact with and it’s too pretty for that Grin

TheGrumpyGoat · 25/09/2021 20:42

@HereForThis

I take mine off just along with any piece of jewelry once I get home. I've never understood wearing rings through messy cooking, etc. So unhygienic.

It's a piece of jewelry, not a ball and chain for my finger.

I don’t take my other jewellery when I get home either though. I take big/jangly stuff off when I shower/go to bed but I’ve had the same necklace (fine platinum chain) on for months!
IVFdreams2021 · 25/09/2021 20:43

I don't wear my rings around the house. I will put it on when going out and occasionally for work depending on what I'm doing. To expensive to wear whilst cleaning/around the house!

MrsAvocet · 25/09/2021 20:44

I dont wear mine. I had to have it cut off after a wasp stung my hand and it swelled up hugely. That must be at least 15 years ago. Every niw and again I say "I should go to a jewellers and get it fixed" but never gave done. Still married though.

SW1amp · 25/09/2021 20:44

Several times a day when I put hand cream on
And overnight because I’ve got pregnancy sausage fingers that swell up in my sleep

ChampionOfTheSun · 25/09/2021 20:44

Neither my wedding nor engagement ring fit anymore despite me weighing less now than when I got married (and they both fitted then Hmm) DH takes his ring off for work and often forgets to put it back on, we aren't particularly bothered about the rings as you can probably tell. I adore my engagement ring but it's also too fancy for me to wear whilst looking after a toddler even if it did fit so I'm glad it's safe until I can hopefully wear it again Grin

Heruka · 25/09/2021 20:45

I’ve never taken it off but it’s a plain thin gold band and I don’t have an engagement ring so nothing gets stuck.

thenightsky · 25/09/2021 20:46

I took mine off the morning after the wedding when it was cutting into my finger. Only ever worn it as costume jewellery on odd occasions since then. Now I've got arthritis I can't get it over my knuckle on most days.

Married for 41 years, so it obviously hasn't made much difference.

SuddenArborealStop · 25/09/2021 20:46

I never wear mine , took them off during pregnancy swelling and never went back

grafittiartist · 25/09/2021 20:46

Every night. Don't find them very comfortable really.

Mayhemmumma · 25/09/2021 20:47

Yeah mine is off, took it off in lockdown and it never went back on - we've been together 20 happy years but there's something quite freeing about not wearing a ring, I am happily married but I don't need to prove that...I don't know, there's just something nice about it. I don't wear any other rings or bracelets either.

SauvignonBlanche · 25/09/2021 20:48

Well you have to in order to wash hands properly. Hmm

SickAndTiredAgain · 25/09/2021 20:48

When I’m cooking/baking something that involves messy hands - the other day I made fish cakes and didn’t fancy picking bits of potato and fish out of it.
I also had to take mine off in the last few weeks of pregnancy as it got too tight.

TheGrumpyGoat · 25/09/2021 20:48

@SauvignonBlanche

Well you have to in order to wash hands properly. Hmm
I don’t, and I’m not dead yet.
KrisAkabusi · 25/09/2021 20:49

I take mine off every night and if I'm kneading bread or mixing meat.

MrsDThomas · 25/09/2021 20:50

Always remove to bed, washing hands, exercises, and its rarely on when its hot as my hands swell.

Anotherdayanotherdollar · 25/09/2021 20:50

I never wear mine to work, I am allowed to wear a plain wedding band but would have to remove my engagement ring and eternity ring anyway so it's as easy to remove all 3. I almost always wear them outside of work though

DeadButDelicious · 25/09/2021 20:50

I don't wear mine all that often, my skin gets very easily irritated so if I don't dry under it properly after washing my hands or using moisturizer my finger gets very itchy. DH Doesn't wear his anymore as he has a physical job and if it got caught it's bye bye finger. Doesn't make us any less married.

PooWillyNameChange · 25/09/2021 20:51

Take them off for making crumble and lifting weights. Very happily married, doesn't bother me.

ProfessorPeach · 25/09/2021 20:52

I love my rings and keep them on as much as I can. I do have a little exzema on my hands so need to take them off if I’m having a flare up.

Simonjt · 25/09/2021 20:52

Yes lots, I can’t wear it at the gym without risking damage and I can’t wear jewellry at rugby.

CathyorClaire · 25/09/2021 20:52

Don't wear it at all.

I don't like the feel of jewellery anyway but after losing weight it's now too big and I'm not going to cough to have something uncomfortable altered so it's banished to a box in a drawer.

itsutterlyshit · 25/09/2021 20:53

I take mine off often. For years I worked a job that meant there was a big risk of damage so I didn't wear them at all. They were in their boxes and only came out on special occasions.
I now have a different job and can wear them daily. I take them off to sleep, shower, housework etc.

JamieNotJames · 25/09/2021 20:54

In 15 years of being married I've only taken my wedding band off when pregnant when my fingers swelled so much it hurt.
My finger now had a permanent indent where the ring is.
