Do you take your wedding ring off?

In theory, I like the idea that he put it on me and it will always stay there, however also, I work as a primary teacher and my ring has diamonds in it so surely I’ll need to take it off to get the paint/glue/snot out properly?

I have a simple gold wedding ring and don't wear any other rings. Been wearing it since we got married over a decade ago.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 25/09/2021 21:08

I rarely wear mine, I’m married regardless of what jewellery I may or may not be wearing

swampytiggaa · 25/09/2021 21:08

Had to take mine off for the first time in 19 years last year when I broke my arm and my hand immediately swelled up. They managed to take them off before they had to cut them off. Hated not wearing them but was a while until I was able to get them on again

Back on now tho 😊

PotteringAlong · 25/09/2021 21:08

No. It’s on permanently.

VenusTiger · 25/09/2021 21:12

No.
Jeweller told me to NEVER take it off - I've painted rooms, gardened etc. and got it all covered in paint - comes off no problem and no chance of damaging it as it's the hardest stone there is.

Years ago, an elderly neighbour sat in the back of a taxi, took her precious rings off onto her lap to apply some hand cream - she got chatting away and forgot to put them back on - she got out of the taxi (the rings went with her) and she never saw them again.

I did remove it during last couple of months of pregnancy but it was kept in a safe place.

I am the same, just a band so no it doesn’t need to ever come off.

I take my watch off for showering or going to the gym and have a freak out that I’ve lost it about 2x a week. I’ve lost so many pairs of earrings that I gave up on wearing any ever. My ring would get lost.

Mermaidpool · 25/09/2021 21:16

I haven't worn mine in years neither has dh. I work in a job that involved a lot of hand washing and it made my finger sore, couldn't be bothered taking it off and on again to dry hands 20+ times a shift

GreatestHits · 25/09/2021 21:16

I hardly ever wear it.

BiBabbles · 25/09/2021 21:17

Oh yes, all the time, I'm constantly playing with it. It's a lovely silicone ring, plain band, favourite of the ones I've had as it's by far the most comfortable, so soft, easy to clean around and suits me more than metal.

I lost the original metal one in a shop after it came flying off my hand in the freezer section never to be seen again, I had a wooden one that didn't come off much, but after several years (and possibly some stress from pregnancies) it split in multiple places. I went years without until I saw an article on silicone rings. I bought a set so I've spares if this one goes missing.

It's weird, it ends up some of my other fingers sometimes, but if it drops off entirely now, my hand feels weird and only around where it would be on my ring finger. Never had that before with any other ring.

Fluffycloudland77 · 25/09/2021 21:19

Not worn either of them since feb 20 when I realised the pandemic was kicking off.

Fluffypastelslippers · 25/09/2021 21:22

Jeweller told me to NEVER take it off

It's not up to the jeweller though Confused

I like lifting weights so I take mine off in the gym. I wear my engagement ring on the other hand and it comes off at night, washing up, anything messy or sticky - and the gym of course.

Echobelly · 25/09/2021 21:27

I take my wedding and engagement ring off at night, bathing, swimming or washing up.

BangingOn · 25/09/2021 21:28

All the time, I hate wearing jewellery at home so it comes off the moment I walk through the door. I don’t wear my rings when I’m exercising either.

Angel2702 · 25/09/2021 21:29

I often have to take mine off if hands are sore. Mine tend to be tight in summer and fall off in winter. I haven’t worn them at all since covid started, constantly washing hands and using hand gel with rings was just not working.

Newsorrynewagain · 25/09/2021 21:30

I took mine off when I had babies as was always washing my hands and was scared I’d scratch them. Barely wear it now, also engagement ring is far too small now

tuckeduptight · 25/09/2021 21:31

The only time I take mine off are when I apply hand cream.

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 25/09/2021 21:31

I don't like to but I will when having a shower so I don't get gunk in it as it has tiny diamonds embedded in. DH takes his off when he exercises.

Gorl · 25/09/2021 21:32

I take it off for kneading bread, painting, stuff like that. I can’t be dealing with picking crusty dry dough out of the setting!

ChocolateRiver · 25/09/2021 21:33

I take mine off every night because I’m prone to getting dermatitis under it, especially with all the hand gel and washing at the moment. Taking them off over night and in the shower helps a lot.

Mybalconyiscracking · 25/09/2021 21:33

Nope, don’t think it will even come off now.
Insisted on wearing it during a nine hour operation that I had, I thought if I am going to die on the operating table I will die with my wedding ring on.

FindingMeno · 25/09/2021 21:35

Don't wear it at all, and like it that way.

DeepaBeesKit · 25/09/2021 21:36

Had to take it off when preg. Got it resized after first baby. Had to take it off again when preg , then lockdown happened and I still havent got it resized!

MossyBottom · 25/09/2021 21:36

I only ever used to wear it when I left the house but then stopped bothering. Can't abide sentimentality over a ring. I haven't actually worn it now for over 20 years.

Doublechins · 25/09/2021 21:38

I'm about 3 stone heavier now so couldn't if I wanted to 🤣
