Do you take your wedding ring off?

In theory, I like the idea that he put it on me and it will always stay there, however also, I work as a primary teacher and my ring has diamonds in it so surely I’ll need to take it off to get the paint/glue/snot out properly?

@MossyBottom

I only ever used to wear it when I left the house but then stopped bothering. Can't abide sentimentality over a ring. I haven't actually worn it now for over 20 years.
Just out of interest did you take it off every time you came in? And put it on every time you went out? With school runs, work, gym, hobbies etc I leave the house 4/5 times a day. Can’t imagine bothering with my rings every time.

Mine started feeling uncomfortable when I was sailing. The joint had swollen a bit so it was a devil of a job to get off so it stayed off. No one seemed to notice, DH doesn't care. We don't need a ring as a symbol - he never had one anyway.

Redwinestillfine · 25/09/2021 21:51

I take mine off at night. It's not comfy to sleep in as my fingers swell.

ChocolateHelps · 25/09/2021 21:52

I take my engagement, wedding and eternity ring off every night. Put back on after shower. They live on a tiny little stained glass ring dish

ApplesAreTheBaneOfMyLife · 25/09/2021 21:53

I never wear mine as it exacerbates my eczema. It was a cheap and boring gold band that I don’t particularly like anyway.

AliasGrape · 25/09/2021 21:55

I take my rings off every night before bed, fairly often I don’t actually put it on in the first place and I can’t remember the last time my husband wore his.

We’re still married, just neither of us like wearing jewellery.

TracyLords · 25/09/2021 21:57

Been married years.
Took my ring off when COVID was starting up as I wanted to ensure my hands were properly washed. Not had them back on since. DH is the same.

dannydyerismydad · 25/09/2021 21:57

Took it off once for an MRI.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 25/09/2021 21:59

Please do, XH was a jeweller and had to cut them off so many people's fingers. Take it off at night.

Smartiepants79 · 25/09/2021 21:59

I used to. My wedding ring no longer comes off really. It might if tried very hard with very cold hands and soap.
I’m a primary primary teacher too and have never felt the need to take it off due to my work.

Why would not taking it off at night mean it has to be cut off? I don’t take mine off at night. I’ve just tried taking them off (been married 12 years)… no problems.
Maharajah20 · 25/09/2021 22:04

Took it off and got a new one!!! Got married young and poor! My ring was of the time as well. Etching on it. Wanted a new plain one. So did. And had 2 new engagement rings 🤦‍♀️ But just the one husband for over 30 years!!

OrangeTortoise · 25/09/2021 22:04

I never take mine off. Just checked and it comes off ok!

DSGBT · 25/09/2021 22:04

I haven’t worn my mine since I was pregnant in 2017, I put on a lot of weight and my hands swelled and they haven’t fit since!

Flufferty · 25/09/2021 22:05

I can't get mine off. My fingers have got fatter 😄

Concestor · 25/09/2021 22:06

I wear all my rings (engagement, wedding, eternity) all the time. They come off only to be professionally cleaned.

Pascha · 25/09/2021 22:06

Mine comes off multiple times a day - every time. I wash up, have a shower, at night, when I can feel it on my hand. It irritates me lots to be honest.

Yubaba · 25/09/2021 22:06

I very rarely take mine off, I hardly ever wear my engagement and eternity rings though, my hands are bigger than they used to be and they are a bit tight.

Theworldishard · 25/09/2021 22:07

@mynameiscalypso

I took mine off as a precaution when I was pregnant in case my fingers got too swollen. I haven't got round to putting it back on. DS is 2 now.
Same!
Figgygal · 25/09/2021 22:09

I can’t remember the last time I wore it tbh
Got out of habit at start of covid I think

Lactarius · 25/09/2021 22:10

Mine is just a plain gold band but I take it off when using rotating machinery (lathe, grinder etc) Seen too many pictures of degloving injuries to want to risk it myself.

lilacdinosaur · 25/09/2021 22:13

I have to take mine off for bed because I find my fingers swell on occasion, that and I almost feel claustrophobic sometimes if I don't take all my jewellery off for bed

AlwaysLatte · 25/09/2021 22:13

No, I've not taken it off in 15 years!

StoneofDestiny · 25/09/2021 22:13

Jeweller told me to NEVER take it off

Wow!

Your decision not the jewellers.

I've been married a very long time and will be whether my ring is on or off. No big deal.

TheGrumpyGoat · 25/09/2021 22:13

I just wouldn’t bother wearing mine if they irritated me!
