Do you take your wedding ring off?

In theory, I like the idea that he put it on me and it will always stay there, however also, I work as a primary teacher and my ring has diamonds in it so surely I’ll need to take it off to get the paint/glue/snot out properly?

I only put mine on to go out, with a few other bits of jewellery

LidlMiddleLover · 25/09/2021 20:55

I never take mine off ever

NiceGerbil · 25/09/2021 20:55

I don't wear either of my rings.

I took them off with difficulty when my fingers were swelling up during Pg and didn't put them back.

I'm not much of a jewelry person anyway though.

cjpark · 25/09/2021 20:55

I never wear mine now unless I’m going out for the evening or an event. I have to wear medical gloves at work every day and don’t want to snag them.

HelloDulling · 25/09/2021 20:56

@DeadButDelicious

I don't wear mine all that often, my skin gets very easily irritated so if I don't dry under it properly after washing my hands or using moisturizer my finger gets very itchy. DH Doesn't wear his anymore as he has a physical job and if it got caught it's bye bye finger. Doesn't make us any less married.
This is why I originally took mine off. Haven’t worn it in ages, and am amused by the way MIL’s eyes dart immediately to my ring finger when we see her but she never says anything.
Thirtyrock39 · 25/09/2021 20:56

I stopped wearing mine about ten years ago . Dh lost his in the sea and never replaced it and so I thought well why am I wearing mine? I actually think rings are really unhygienic and don't know why you need this symbol of being married

YukoandHiro · 25/09/2021 20:57

I don't take mine off but DH hates me jewellery and only wears it when at work or out socialising. At home he takes it off. He hardly wore it at all during lockdown.

ithoughtisawapuddycat · 25/09/2021 20:57

I take mine off to shower and wash my hair as its now too big for me but not had it resized yet. I use a keeper ring to keep it on all other times. Only other times I take it off is to put hand cream on. I don't always wear my engagement ring but always wear my wedding band and a keeper ring (a thin full eternity band).

Tronkmanton · 25/09/2021 20:57

I have never taken mine off since DH put it on me at our wedding nearly 19 years ago. I only very occasionally take off my engagement & eternity rings. It is easily possible to clean your hands properly as you can move the ring on your finger without taking it off completely.

CorvusPurpureus · 25/09/2021 20:58

I bought mine (a plain silver band) with a view to not taking it off. I wear lots of chunky dress rings & swap them around depending on what I'm wearing, so I wanted my wedding ring to be a neutral item I could just leave on permanently.

I still inexplicably lost the bloody thing at some point - no, I've no idea. I took it off to do something bleach related, couldn't find it afterwards, vaguely assumed it'd be around somewhere as I tend to leave jewellery all over the house. It never turned up.

I've divorced since so it's not a major concern (my engagement ring was also a cheap & cheerful silver ring with a semi precious stone, last seen in dd2's jewellery box I think).

I would say you'll probably look after it carefully if it's important to you - maybe have a designated dish to keep it in if you have to remove it to avoid damage to the metal/stones if there are any?

Mine wasn't a big deal either way so I was pretty careless about it. It was only a ring! If I'd stayed married to xh it might have been replaced, but I genuinely don't like expensive jewellery. I love jewellery & am a bit of a magpie about it, but I'd rather wear costume stuff & not lose sleep over losing or damaging it.

GroggyLegs · 25/09/2021 20:58

I hardly take my wedding band off, although I did last night as I wanted to wear yellow gold and it's platinum.

I take my engagement ring off frequently. It's bulky.

GoodnightGrandma · 25/09/2021 20:58

I never wear my engagement or eternity rings. I take my wedding ring off when I’m chopping chicken, that’s all.

velvetstar · 25/09/2021 20:58

I never take mine off

delilahbucket · 25/09/2021 20:58

Only for showering and when I'm handling really messy stiff, like making burgers. I used to take my engagement ring off all the time for fear of damaging it, but it's hardy and it's platinum so won't lose metal.

angerelle · 25/09/2021 20:59

I don't take my wedding band off, I'm a bit superstitious about it. But then I am also superstitious about the unopened magnum of "Charlemagne" that someone brought to the party where we got together, it's moved house with us and sits on the floor of the larder, keeping us safely together Grin

SilveredPinkPetal · 25/09/2021 20:59

I never wear mine, it’s a bit too small, he never wears his, it’s a bit big now.
I feel the whole concept is a little old fashioned for me. The rings are especially special, and I’m not bothered about it.
I don’t even like my engagement ring

Fluffypastelslippers · 25/09/2021 20:59

I stopped wearing mine years ago, it just irritated me!

SilveredPinkPetal · 25/09/2021 21:00

Rings aren’t especially special…just jewellers standard ones

StoneofDestiny · 25/09/2021 21:00

Yes - every day. I don't sleep in them, bathe or swim in them or sit around the house in them. I put them on to go out, just as I do with my earrings.

Can't see why I'd leave them in all day every day.

Briony123 · 25/09/2021 21:00

I often take my wedding ring and engagement ring off for weeks at a time. It's just a piece of metal. Still married, would be surprised if that ever changed.

TheGrumpyGoat · 25/09/2021 21:00

I don’t keep mine on because I think anything bad will happen if I don't, it just doesn’t occur to me to take it off. It’s like part of me now. Also I don’t want to lose it (or my engagement ring) and I know I would if I took them off regularly.

BigBadBoom · 25/09/2021 21:03

I haven't worn mine for years, it irritates my skin to have something against the same place too much. I rarely wear any jewellery to be honest, sometimes necklaces. Like pp have said, still married, 16 years! My husband wears his all the time, plus the band I bought him when we got engaged.

2bunny · 25/09/2021 21:05

Mine comes off everytime my fingers decide to have a fat day 🙃

Wagglerock · 25/09/2021 21:05

Only when pregnant because my hands swelled.

I've got a plain band so doesn't matter too much of it gets mucky. No idea where my engagement ring is though.

Joystir59 · 25/09/2021 21:07

Never take mine off. Was widowed July last year but am still married in my heart and soul
