Do you take your wedding ring off?

In theory, I like the idea that he put it on me and it will always stay there, however also, I work as a primary teacher and my ring has diamonds in it so surely I’ll need to take it off to get the paint/glue/snot out properly?

I wear mine all the time , actually only remember having to take then off when I had a bad eczema flare up on my ring finger a few years ago
Been married nearly 30 years , and don’t have flashy jewellery

itbemay1 · 25/09/2021 22:15

@ScrambledSmegs

Yes I take mine off. Barely wear it actually Blush. I just don't like wearing rings, never have.

Doesn't make me any less married.

Same. Only wear mine once or twice a month if that!
VanillaAndOrange · 25/09/2021 22:17

When I wore my original rings I wore my wedding ring almost all the time but took my engagement ring off a lot, as it wasn't supposed to be immersed in water. I "upgraded" a few years ago (to rings that were actually cheaper, but more "me") and these ones are safe to wear in water, including sea water, so I don't take them off much - mainly if I'm making something like apple crumble where stuff would get stuck in the engraved pattern. However I do also go climbing and I never wear any rings for that, as they have posters up saying "Remove your rings, not your fingers!"

lovemenomore · 25/09/2021 22:18

Well yeah course I do....when I get into bed and when I'm pissed of with him...

Bobsyer · 25/09/2021 22:18

I took mine off because tbqh it was starting to cut off circulation

It’s a plain silver band though so I wash my hands and do everything with it on. I rarely wear my engagement ring because the edges of the setting irritate my skin.

Nsky · 25/09/2021 22:21

Best just to get plain gold band, mine never came off

tiredanddangerous · 25/09/2021 22:23

I can't get mine off; fingers significantly fatter than when I got married.

MaggieFS · 25/09/2021 22:24

Yes, all the time. I have eczema and have to apply hand cream every time after I wash my hands and don't want to get the cream on them. I've just got in the habit of not wearing them in the house which makes it easier.

MaverickDanger · 25/09/2021 22:25

Took it off to shower, swim, gym and for bed. Then took it off at 32 weeks pregnant and my fingers are still fat 11 months on Grin

BeenAsFarAsMercyAndGrand · 25/09/2021 22:26

I do a hobby where wearing a ring would be a safety risk, so yes - I take it off all the time. Degloving injuries look very nasty.

lillylemons · 25/09/2021 22:27

I only wear mine when I go out. I hate rings on my fingers.

TheWelshposter · 25/09/2021 22:27

Yes I take my rings off every evening as my fingers swell up during the day.

I don't wear them for showering, swimming etc. Remember the scene in Apollo 13 where her ring went down the plughole? 😄

BeenAsFarAsMercyAndGrand · 25/09/2021 22:30

@VenusTiger

No. Jeweller told me to NEVER take it off - I've painted rooms, gardened etc. and got it all covered in paint - comes off no problem and no chance of damaging it as it's the hardest stone there is.

Years ago, an elderly neighbour sat in the back of a taxi, took her precious rings off onto her lap to apply some hand cream - she got chatting away and forgot to put them back on - she got out of the taxi (the rings went with her) and she never saw them again.

I did remove it during last couple of months of pregnancy but it was kept in a safe place.

I don't think it was your jeweller's business to tell you what to do with your own ring and your own hands!
DDiva · 25/09/2021 22:34

@mynameiscalypso

I took mine off as a precaution when I was pregnant in case my fingers got too swollen. I haven't got round to putting it back on. DS is 2 now.
I took mine off when I was pregnant as my hands swelled. DD is 8 and it's not back on yet. I've never liked wearing rings.
ginsparkles · 25/09/2021 22:36

My plain wedding band stays on pretty much all the time. I take it off periodically to clean it, and also when I'm at work if someone wants me to show them what a ring they are interested in looks like on. (I work in a jewellers)
My diamond set band and my engagement ring and my right hand rings all come off at night, but I keep the plain band on. Feels strange to me not to have a ring on my fingers now.

Ednadidit · 25/09/2021 22:37

I take mine off every night to sleep, for swimming and when I go to the gym. Or at least I did before I reached 5 months pregnant. Currently wedding and engagement rings live on a chain around my neck which still comes off every night.

@BeenAsFarAsMercyAndGrand I think the jeweller was just making sure she didn’t lose them… imagine how many people they see each year having to replace misplaced precious jewellery.

BoredZelda · 25/09/2021 22:39

I haven’t worn my wedding ring for years - my fingers are fat now!

allfurcoatnoknickers · 25/09/2021 22:40

All the time. It's a full eternity ring with diamonds all the way around so I take it off he never it might get dirty.

In peak Covid times I basically stopped wearing it because I was washing my hands so often.

It was still none of their business. There are many genuine reasons to remove rings. What if she was a climber, for example? Or worked with machinery?
nc4565 · 25/09/2021 22:41

All the time!

I take them off at night before bed. Also when I'm cleaning without my marigolds on.

Derrymum123 · 25/09/2021 22:43

Yep. To go to bed and to clean, but mine is multi rings twisted as one, so needs cleaning often, as all sorts of sh**e gets between them.
Shock

Strokethefurrywall · 25/09/2021 22:43

Yep, I take mine off every day when I get in. I never used to be spent so long cooking/washing hands that I started.
They live in a little pot in one of the drawers.

RedRiverShore · 25/09/2021 22:47

I haven't worn mine for years, I can't bear rings

LouLou789 · 25/09/2021 22:47

I turned out to be allergic to my original (beautiful) wedding ring so we replaced it with a £4.85 Argos silver ring (silver appears to be the only metal that agrees with me) And I take it off quite a lot. Sometimes just to get air to my skin or to check there is no soap stuck down there.

Skysblue · 25/09/2021 22:47

I didn’t until I was pregnant and then overnight my hands swelled massively and the ring finger was VERY painful and nearly impossible to get the ring off!

So I stopped sleeping in it. Then sometimes I forgot to put it on in morning. Then I put weight on and it didn’t fot so I didn’t wear it for a few weeks until resized. Then I out MORE weight on which I hope to lose so I haven’t had it resized again but rarely wear it because it’s too tight and gets uncomfortable after a while.
