I never see people saying that. I only ever see people saying that people say that

It's on this thread!

Someone going on about the OP drinking every night, or worse phrasing. I specifically noticed it... and thought... "get a life"

PartyPotato · 28/08/2021 17:25

@Yourstupidityexhaustsme yeah that was one of the ones I saw. Like no one has ever drank a bottle of wine to themselves over an evening without being an alcoholic.

PartyPotato · 28/08/2021 17:25

@Roussette it was a really condescending ‘more alcohol for OP then tonight’ or something like that

PartyPotato · 28/08/2021 17:28

@Yourstupidityexhaustsme I’m having a beer right now. DS will be in bed in 2 hours. In that time I’ll probably have had one more beer. Good god I hope social services don’t come knocking.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 28/08/2021 17:30
Anyone on this thread who feels that "gentle parenting" is anathema to them may be interested in what Katherine Birbalsingh has to say. She's fab.
She IS fab!

Thank you for posting this link - I'm going to look at more of her interviews etc.

torchh · 28/08/2021 17:31
@torchh go and look at a thread from last week about a mother who drank a bottle of red wine after putting her baby to bed.

The attitudes towards her are astounding. It’s all very mn chicken.
I'm talking about the oft cited 'thimble' cliche. Don't know why, just really annoys me.

Very boring

That was @DoWhatYouWantToAndShh

Skybubble · 28/08/2021 17:41

@Reiningitin Thank you for the link!

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 28/08/2021 17:45

I work in Primary too. Spot on in my experience, sadly...

PartyPotato · 28/08/2021 17:47

@torchh yeah I know I was replying to @Roussette, I wasn’t accusing her!

PartyPotato · 28/08/2021 17:48

@torchh also obviously no one literally says if you have more than a thimble you are an alcoholic, it’s an exaggeration. I’m taking the piss.

Roussette · 28/08/2021 17:50

Yes, I use the thimblefull thing and it's just a joke

And I'm having a glass of white wine now, and DH and I share a bottle of red later, as we have done for decades on a Saturday night!
I love my Saturdays.... glug...hic

I know you are. I'm complaining about the fact that everyone says the same old tired 'joke' about the thimble.

PartyPotato · 28/08/2021 17:53

@torchh ok sorry 😂

PartyPotato · 28/08/2021 17:53

@Roussette sounds great, I’ve decided on white for later

angela99999 · 28/08/2021 17:57

I really don't know how you've stuck it so long, I'd have been off home after a couple of bad nights. I really LOATHE children like that, though it sounds as though her wet mother has brought in on herself.

Lillygolightly · 28/08/2021 18:06

The consequences of being gentle on kids when they become adults explained.

Lifetheuniverseandeverything · 28/08/2021 18:09

Maybe she thinks because you’re a teacher you will be judging her if she tells golden child off in front of you … otherwise … you have my sympathy. Take wine to your room.

Yesitsbess · 28/08/2021 18:12

I am back from work. I have wine. I am ready for Dobble-related shenanigans.

I feel there should be a drinking game here. I'll line my thimbles up...

Wine
PartyPotato · 28/08/2021 18:17

@Yesitsbess now don’t have too many thimbles🍷

BorderlineHappy · 28/08/2021 18:17

No, I was responding to a PP who accused me of using my friend for company. Which is kind of what I thought friendship was for 😂

Eh your df would have to be in the room for that to count 😂😂

Yourstupidityexhaustsme · 28/08/2021 18:18

Opalfeet · 28/08/2021 18:21

@MsMoppet I found toddler taming okay. One review I read said it sanctioned smacking, which it didn't. There was no reference to smacking in the book.

torchh · 28/08/2021 18:23

I think I'm going to swerve parenting books after that other one.
