Rosé wine is awful.

Please give your opinions, all welcome...

I've yet to find a Rosé wine that doesn't give me an instant dull headache, tried lots of different blends/price points and still believe that it tasted just crap.

You aren't buying the right rose... try one from Provence

Icequeen01 · 11/08/2021 01:23

You definitely haven't been buying the right wine. This Chapel Down sparkling brut Rose is outstanding!

And I also meant to say in my post below that Chapel Down is a Kent vineyard. The wine isn't cheap but by God it's good.

@OaxacaChihuahua

It’s only acceptable when drunk achingly cold on the leafy terrace of a restaurant in a hot country. Any other situation and it’s very meh.
Yes exactly. Cheap rose over ice cubes in a courtyard in Aix-en-Provence, served with goats cheese, tomatoes and bread from the local market? Sign me up? The same rose at home in the U.K.? Disgusting mouthwash.Confused ConfusedConfused

Ah but it’s still not nice unless you add in Provence Sad
Feilin · 11/08/2021 01:54

This reminds me of the time I was given a bottle of mateus rose . I brought home and my Dad said "Not had that since the 70's open it and pour me a glass" duely handed him a glass and he had a swig then proclaimed " well it was fucking stinking then then and its still fucking stinking now" dont know why he wanted a glass lol

Anything from Cote de Provence is delicious- the lighter the shade the more delicious and if not super cold add a wee ice cube!! I LOVE it!

Bryonyshcmyony · 11/08/2021 06:57

Langham sparkling rose is genuinely delicious. Made in Dorset and expensive, but even dh, who is a rose refusenik, loves it

I wonder if it's as nice as the Langham. Might have to do a taste test!

Langham Rose

Basically. Yep.
Bryonyshcmyony · 11/08/2021 07:04

Some of that thin provencal rose is also horrible though.

MayorGundersonsDogRufus · 11/08/2021 07:08

Yes, very pale French ice cold rose is lovely.

Just been staying with MIL and she drinks room temperature Blossom Hill white Zinfandel. Basically Ribena.

shiningcuckoo · 11/08/2021 07:12

NZ roses are lovely. Especially those from Marlborough. Te Whare Ra single vineyard is crisp and delicate.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 11/08/2021 07:42

All wine tastes awful to me. I have a very sweet tooth and unsophisticated palate. It all tastes sour.

lifesgoodwithlg · 11/08/2021 07:53

My kinda gal ! My friend's weekend milk was Baileys or more accurately Lidl fake Baileys.

FloconDeNeige · 11/08/2021 07:59

DH and his family are from Provence - Manosque/Valensole and drink rosé habitually (in addition to red, but rarely white). His grandma has half a small glass with lunch every day.

I have never, ever been served it with ice cubes in though, either at family/friend’s or out. They just keep it in the fridge 🤷🏼‍♀️

Everyone there also consumes monumental quantities of pastis, especially FIL. It’s the go to (sometimes only) apéro drink. Which is a shame as I cannot abide aniseed! So PILs keep a bottle of Isle of Jura for my apéro and then we all move on to the Bandol (rosé)!

StarlightLady · 11/08/2021 08:28

Try looking for a dry wine from Provence. Avoid anything vivid pink. You need to look for something that resembles white wine with a very slight pink hue.

It is a decisive opinion I know, but AIBU if I've tried so many over the years and STILL get an instant headache after one sip(slurp)?

I am soo not a wine snob, drink most red and white, regions/price and blends irrespective.

Why would YBU to get a headache and why would you keep trying it if you don't like it? Just drink something else. Confused
BriocheForBreakfast · 11/08/2021 08:31

@Cookerhood

This one is delicious
Sainsbury's do a Provençal rosé called Fronton which I introduced my previously non-rosé drinking friend to. She loves it. It's drier than a lot of rosé wines which is why she likes it. She's always found them to be a bit sweet.
BriocheForBreakfast · 11/08/2021 08:31

@Davros

Must be De Provence, very chilled and with reasonably good weather. I love it
Exactly 😁
Pinkstegosaurus · 11/08/2021 08:58

Feeling the sudden urge to abandon my life and become a sophisticated French woman in Provence and drink rose all day in a courtyard with pet chickens after reading this thread Grin

Agadorsparticus · 11/08/2021 08:59

I love it. Sweet wine with no hangover.

HeronLanyon · 11/08/2021 09:02

I can stomach rose cava and champagne of VERY cold.
I can’t deal with red or rose at all otherwise. Some kind of allergy I’ve always thought. Awful drunkenness very quickly (and not happy or fun at all) and dreadful hangover after just eg one glass. Shame as I love the taste of some reds.
