Rosé wine is awful.

Please give your opinions, all welcome...

I've yet to find a Rosé wine that doesn't give me an instant dull headache, tried lots of different blends/price points and still believe that it tasted just crap.

If you're drinking sweet rose you're doing it wrong! I thought I hated it then we started ordering dry rose from naked wines. We actually got a free one I think that's how we started. I like the natural ones although I know they aren't to everyone's taste. Nothing like the blossom hill zinfandel type thing I'd had before. It doesn't have to taste like calpol.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 10/08/2021 20:31

Rosé is grim. Always tastes like the dregs of red and white got chucked in together.

Biancadelrioisback · 10/08/2021 20:31

@OaxacaChihuahua

It’s only acceptable when drunk achingly cold on the leafy terrace of a restaurant in a hot country. Any other situation and it’s very meh.
This.
gogohm · 10/08/2021 20:32

I didn't like it until I went to Provence, they know how to make rose! Needs to be chilled and often served with a ice cube or 2

gogohm · 10/08/2021 20:33

@TeachesOfPeaches

You haven't had good rose then, it's dry

mynameisbrian · 10/08/2021 20:33

I agree it has to be a dry rose, my favourite is one I first tried in a wine cave in provence. Delicious

Flatdisco · 10/08/2021 20:34

@Miliao

I think some of you may need to broaden your horizons! If you don’t drink or know that much about wine, then it’s likely you would associate rose with sweet. Where I’m from it’s definitely not sweet or frowned upon. It’s like me saying I hate red wine if I’d only drunk heavy South African malbecs! There’s a world of wine out there, have fun trying them all!
Yes very well said. I feel like people are judging based in a very small experience of rose.
gogohm · 10/08/2021 20:35

The best are from Provence and are £8+ but Aldi have a pinot Grigio blush for under £5 which is very drinkable. Key is ice cold

Fiercest · 10/08/2021 20:37

I like rose. I think red wine tastes like vinegar. I've never ever liked any reds I've tried.

Tana433 · 10/08/2021 20:40

Im currently working my way through a bottle of Blossom Hill Zinfandel with my sister and we both commented how lovely and fruity it is (particularly taste strawberry). First time ive had it but thinking it wont be the last!

rookiemere · 10/08/2021 20:41

I like Rose, particularly a cheap Californian sweet rose. Just a cheap date , I suppose.

bleachblondemom · 10/08/2021 20:41

@Miliao exactly. There’s a huge variety of rosé wine that tastes different according to the grape and the region grown. Just as you’d like to expect with white and red wine.
That being said, sometimes in the summer I am suddenly in the mood for a cold sweet juicy rosé, and all my wine snobbery goes out the window 😂

saltinesandcoffeecups · 10/08/2021 20:42

First and foremost if you don’t like it, don’t drink it. As far as I know there are no laws about having to like something. I personally hate most Chardonnay and am the princess and the pea when it comes to reds.

That being said, I’m a fairly recent convert to Rose wines. I too associated them with the sickly sweet wines of yesteryear. Bless the wine shop guy that suggested one to me a couple of years ago. There are some really great ones on the market that are perfect for hot summer days and sushi 🍱. My guilty pleasure and the only thing that gets me through the humid hot days when I’m ready for fall.

Good luck, hope you eventually trip over one you like or make peace with the fact they aren’t your favorite.

RoseWineTime · 10/08/2021 20:42

Love a nice dry rose - none of that sweet stuff with food colouring in it! If you don’t like it then you probably haven’t tasted the good stuff Wine

Buttons294749 · 10/08/2021 20:47

Me too! Even proper champagne, when it's rosè it's gross!! Cannot get on board with it

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 10/08/2021 20:48

I suspect you are buying 'pinky wine' not proper rosé. I agree the Provence rosé is best, a very pale pink with almost a tinge of orange.
I want some NOW!

(I did like the term 'Breakfast Wine' though)

Jubaju · 10/08/2021 20:50

Mirabeau do some lovely Rose 🙌

givealittlelove · 10/08/2021 20:50

If you think all rose wines taste bad then you haven't tried enough of them! Wink

Everyones preferences are different but I'd say if you're not having much luck with the roses you try, maybe try buying them from somewhere different. Or maybe visiting somewhere that offers a few food courses with a wine flight, or a solo wine tasting session, to try a few in one sitting.

Wines only tend to give me a clanger of a headache if they have added sulfites, maybe try a natural rose wine and see if that helps?

Helloumi · 10/08/2021 20:51

@Sunshinedaisymeadowsxx
What?!! You clearly have the wrong rose wines!

Try a Pinot Grigio rose, nothing below 12%…. Ice cold.. in the freezer makes it 🥰

Yes! 1000% Deeeelicious.

Pinkstegosaurus · 10/08/2021 20:52

Miraval is my most recent favourite! Definitely Provence rose over any other pink, it is the best and not sickly at all.
@Jubaju have you seen that Mirabeau do a gin too? I’ve only had a sniff but smelt divine!

DentonsFringeArnottsWaistcoat · 10/08/2021 20:53

I would have wholeheartedly agreed before I discovered Miraval and Chapel Down Rose Brut. I mean, if I must. Wink

AesopsMables · 10/08/2021 20:54

I probably haven't tasted the "good stuff" then? Including but not limited to...

I love Angelinas rose!

rottd · 10/08/2021 20:56

cant stand red

SpeakingFranglais · 10/08/2021 20:57

Rose is my favourite, I lam a cheap date and rather like a Hardy’s Shiraz, but I’m also a fan of NZ Marlborough Sav Blanc Rose. I can also finish a nice rose Pinot Grigio or Rose D’Anjou.

I don’t do white Zinfandel or Grenache they are like pop.

For the poster that said they thought people who like Rose don’t like wine, bollocks, I also drink white (NZ Marlborough again) and red.

I don’t profess to be an expert but I know what I like, and clearly other people do or it wouldn’t sell.
