Rosé wine is awful.

Please give your opinions, all welcome...

I've yet to find a Rosé wine that doesn't give me an instant dull headache, tried lots of different blends/price points and still believe that it tasted just crap.

I quite like rose! Has to be the right day and situation for it (ie when I feel like it Grin ) but I do like it.

I like a dry rose and as I’m no expert I tend to go for ones that are a very pale pink. Not a very scientific approach but it works for me!

MyCatIsAFuckwit · 10/08/2021 21:29

@AliasGrape
😁 Best comment! You made me almost spit out my.....wine. 🍷

maddy68 · 10/08/2021 21:33

Agreed. It's like it's been designed for non wine drinkers that can't decide if they like white or red so they mixed it together

KingdomScrolls · 10/08/2021 22:00

I like a vin Gris it's somewhere between a white and a rosé, light dry but fruity. I agree with many others that anything light in colour from Provence is more than drinkable.
I don't drink anything pink that my SIL produces because invariably it tastes like ribena, she invited DH to taste her new favourite drink at a bbq once and was drinking candyfloss flavoured gin with cream soda!

LakieLady · 10/08/2021 22:06

@Cookerhood

This one is delicious
I was going to mention Cotes de Provence. I first had it in France, and bloody love it. Back in the booze cruise days we used to pop across the channel (live near a channel port) and do a big shop every few weeks. Cotes de Provence was always on the list, as it was near impossible to find it here then (early-mid 90s). It's really crisp, quite dry and very refreshing.

It was also cheap as chips. I notice that's changed!

AlbertBridge · 10/08/2021 22:12

I LOVE White Grenache. (It's even sweeter than Zinfandel.) White Grenache is like magic Ribena that makes everyone around you funnier and better looking.

I used to like dry white wine but it turns me into a bitch so I avoid it now.

But I drank a bottle of White Grenache last weekend when watching an outdoor concert with DH, and had the time of my life. The compère even got me up on stage to sing. 😂

CounsellorTroi · 10/08/2021 22:20

One white I don't like is Pinot Grigio - it starts to get cloying after more than one glass.

Zhampagne · 10/08/2021 22:22

@Eminybob

I always think people who drink rose are people who don’t really like wine. My mum drinks white Zinfandel and it is so sweet it gives me toothache.

At a push I’ll drink a Pinot Grigio blush but that’s as pink as I’ll go.

White Zinfandel isn’t rosé, it’s a blush, and it’s ghastly. Like Jolly Rancher sweets.

To add to the recommendations, Aldi’s Fleurs de Prairie Côtes de Provence is delicious...but liking rosé is hardly compulsory.

OverByYer · 10/08/2021 22:28

Love a chilled, pale, dry Rose. Preferably French or Spanish.

NinDS · 10/08/2021 22:37

I love white wine, the dryer the better and I love the Oak earthyness of Chardonnay. I also like red wine…but I cannot stand Rose wine of any kind at all. It is way too sweet…you only have to look at the alcoholic content to know it will be sweet. Anything that is 11.5% or less is sweet.

Illegally18 · 10/08/2021 22:39

it needs to be drunk on a hot day. Try Tesco's Italian Blush which is dry. Otherwise you might as well as drink Ribena

MintyGreenDream · 10/08/2021 22:39

My go to white is Sauvingon Blanc.Lidl do an excellent one-its got a drawing on rugby players on the front.

I’d LOVE a glass of wine but I’m intolerant to alcohol and it brings me out in a rash and gives me awful stomach cramps. I’m so jealous of folk that can enjoy a lovely chilled glass of wine! Alternativa 0-0 rosato dry is really nice.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 10/08/2021 22:41

I like it if I can find a dry one

justasking111 · 10/08/2021 22:42

I can't drink rosé blinding headaches. During the heatwave friend gave me a huge glass full of ice with mateus rosé poured over the ice. It was delicious, refreshing and no headache. Took me back to hot summers in Portugal drinking the local vinho de Mesa which was so cheap and bottled down the road from our villa

I buy this the one with the national leaf on, slightly fizzy Marlborough.
justasking111 · 10/08/2021 22:47

When young lambrusco was popular. Cheap and cheerful

Peraltiago · 10/08/2021 22:47

People are incredibly snobby about rosé. I absolutely love it in summer, a crisp dry glass with a couple of ice cubes. A provencal pale rosé or a nice Spanish one. As said above, needs to be at least 10%, preferably 12! (hic). The supermarket 'I ♥️ rosé' type ones at 8% - no thanks (though my guilty secret is a nice white Zinfandel when in California - think they keep the best ones for themselves 😁). It's like people basing their opinion of white wine on Blue Nun!

Figgygal · 10/08/2021 22:50

I can’t drink white anymore too many hangovers in my 20’s and can’t abide red
I do like a Malbec rose these days

Lightningrain · 10/08/2021 22:51

I thunk it has a bad name due to the Zinfandel on tap in pubs.

I used to think I didn’t like it but then had a really nice one when sharing a bottle with rose drinking friend in a restaurant.

I probably still wouldn’t order or buy it as I tend to stick to the reds and whites that I know I like. Having said that I don’t stick to one particular type of red or white so maybe I should try it again.

feliciabirthgiver · 10/08/2021 22:51

@AliasGrape my favourite comment of the day Wine

DY10DY11 · 10/08/2021 22:51

I live in Kidderminster. They must be the UK's largest rosé consumer. It's bizarre. All the women here only drink rosé. The rose sections in the supermarket are massive. So odd. 😁

I can tolerate it but never my go to option. Though pink fizz can be rather nice especially with cake for afternoon tea type thing

Germolenequeen · 10/08/2021 22:55

Currently drinking cheap rosè from Lidl - very cold & dry - yum 😋
I like a jolly good bottle of white or red too don't get me wrong but there are so many wine snobs around who don't know what they are missing.

Rosè can be awful or great just like red & white wines can - don't knock it til you try a few 😬

DillonPanthersTexas · 10/08/2021 22:56

It's horrible, tastes way too sweet

Stop buying sweet rose then. Most of the stuff served in pubs and restaurants these days is that weird nasty neon pink stuff that strips the enamel off your teeth. At the very least buy some AOC Cote de Provence stuff, very pale, crisp and dry. Look for anything from the Var region.
