AIBU to think this outfit is inappropriate?

AIBU in thinking that in this outfit, upstaging the bride is exactly what he wanted to do? The comments on his post are all "Fab outfit", "You look amazing", "I bet the bride wouldn't have minded being upstaged by you" etc etc. I normally like GP but this is just so me, me, me and selfish.

Who goes to a wedding in dungarees and a hoodie? Am I just being a grump? It wouldn't be completely unheard of

Maybe there was a dress code?

It's trying so hard, it's cringey and embarrassing. For him.
The bride won't be upstaged, but he looks desperate and rather sad.

Why would anyone advertised they are so pathetic is beyond me, but who knows.

It’s definitely an attention seeking outfit. I don’t know who he is but from the photo he looks like he probably is desperate for attention generally so whoever invited him to their wedding would probably guess he’d act like a prat but didn’t care

Better known for his flamboyant cross dressing than his art I would imagine.

And yes, self serving narcissist who wouldn't care what anyone thought of him, it Clare, as he wanted to be called when in a frock 😁

Having said that, he had quite an unsettled childhood, not at all well off or stable, and has usually been upfront about his cross dressing being a link - that got ruined because people stopped being surprised or shocked by it!

Why do you care? Is it your wedding? Get a life.

If you're friends with Grayson Perry and have invited him to your wedding you must know and presumably LIKE how he is.

If you wanted a load of guests in trad wedding wear you wouldn't invite GP to the wedding.

You don't invite GP without immediately think "OMG - what have we done!?" I think he looks fine. On the programs I've seen him on I was impressed with how well he understands other people and their problems - I find him very generous , thoughtful and grounded. I don't like the way he dresses sometimes but that the deal with him.

Maybe the bride didn't have the choice really, maybe he's a family member of the groom? Some people are genuinely nice, even for idiots.

I won't hear a bad word against him. I've been to a couple of his exhibitions and always liked him. After his lockdown art club I'm even more of a fan. He and his wife seem lovely and this is how he dresses. Good for him.

It's not white or bridal so I don't see anything wrong with it. The couple getting married must be mates with Grayson so would probably expect a characteristically flamboyant outfit.

Is he actually at the wedding? Could it be a joke, where he's had the picture taken with someone he doesn't know's wedding in the background?

This is Grayson Perry toned down. If you see his ‘normal’ attire, which I would describe as Alice in Wonderland on acid, then there’s no comparison. It’s part of who his is and why should he change that?

Presume he wouldn’t have just been invited to some ransoms wedding who doesn’t know him.

People can wear what they like! If Grayson Perry wanted to upstage the bride, he’d have worn a full length white dress - like the aunt in Derry Girls…

If he came to my wedding and gave me a gift of one of his ceramics, he could wear MY wedding dress!

Seriously though, inaceptable for someone to just randomly turn up dressed like that if normally ‘sensible’, but if you invite an eccentric guest, you know what you’re going to get.

I know someone who was at a wedding he was at. He did the same there - totally upstaged the bride.

There are times when it's appropriate to wear an attention seeking outfit and a wedding isn't one of them (unless you're the couple getting married)

I used to love him. He's such a talented artist and I loved his Reith lectures. But recently I've been turned off by him not speaking up when the RA cancelled Jess de Wahls. I also read a quote from him about the cross dressing thing being a fetish and he gets a sexual thrill from it. So now I think he's a bit weird.

I think if you invite Grayson Perry to your wedding, you already know what to expect in terms of his outfit and would probably be disappointed if he turned up in a Marks and Spenser plain grey suit.

When people wear stuff like that, it’s just attention seeking behaviour imo. Wear the wackiest, most colourful things you can find that clash, then everyone will notice…

Oh FFS, if you're mates with Grayson Perry you know how he dresses! Would you invite Zara Rhodes and expect her to turn up wearing a beige twinset? 🙄
